Secrets of AzBilliards

I've been navigating on this forum for a long time now, close to a decade, and as you can see by my post count, well, I get around on AzBilliards okay. ;)

Since I have turned gold and blue, I have decided to remove myself from the invisible mode, so I could marvel at my blueness.

Anyway, I thought I'd share a few secrets of AzBilliards and hope you will share some, too, if you have any.

If a person is in invisible mode, one might think they have no way of knowing whether someone else knows if they have been online or not. Well, there is a way. If you go to their iTrader link beneath their avatar and click on the number after "iTrader," you can see in the upper right-hand corner the time and date of the last time they have been on AzBIlliards. Not so invisible now, huh? :grin-square:

A few years ago, I created a thread about Etta James and Fats. Each day, I noticed how many hits it was generating. I used to refer back to it for data that I needed for another project. I then discovered the Links tab up in the upper right-hand corner. If you click it, at the bottom there is something that says "Who's Online," and you can see who is reading the thread at that moment.

It is amazing to me how many guests there are on AzBilliards. As it turns out, it was these so-called "guests" that were reading the Etta James thread. Since AzBilliards is cached on the Internet, if anyone was looking for Etta James data, then they would get a link to AzBilliards because of this Etta James thread.

Here's one more secret of AzBilliards. If you write a great post, you can click on the greenie button of your own post, and it lets you know how many greenies you got for the post. The greenie section only allows 20 or so comments and then they disappear. Well, this greenie button on the post will always reveal how many greenies that post received ad infinitum.

Now it's your turn. Please share some AzBilliards secrets. Okay, they're not really secrets. They're navigating tips, but I figured the word "secrets" made the thread title intriguging. :p

There is an amazing amount of stuff here, isn't there Miss Jam?
The other day I clicked on a small icon that looked like an airplane and all of a sudden I was sitting on a beach in the south of France.
Boy, was I embarrassed. I was the only one there with any clothes on.

Jam is learning me again this morning

How did I become Silver? Didn't realise it until I posted on this thread.

This is a cool thread.

Can you tell that I gave you a green JAM? Seriously though, this is the first time I have ever used the rep system. Where do you see people's comments?

Mr. Wilson is actually a used car salesman who dresses very plain during the day to keep people from suspecting that he's actually a bird of paradise after dark named Wicked Wilma. ( he's also a big fan of Kurt Vonnegut Jr.)

Sorry Dave, Jam made me.

I have question, which I'm hijacking my own thread here, but when people refer to "The Netherlands," it is kind of like "The Hague," with the word "The" capitalized in front of it.

In plain speak, when people converse and they say, for example, "I am going to the Netherlands," would you initial-cap "The" in this regard?

Example A: I am going to The Netherlands.
Example B: I am going to the Netherlands.

Which example is correct, punctuation-wise?

TIA!

I believe it would be example B. I think the reason The Hauge gets capitalized is due to that fact that referring to it that way is referring more to the international court than the city itself. Also, I can't think of any AZB secrets to contribute at the moment.

Can't remember my AP Style Guide too well anymore, but I seem to recall that you do not capitalize "the" before a country, like in "the United States," because it's not part of the actual name. But, "The Hague" is different because the actual name is "The Hague" as in "Den Haag."

But I'd double check all that if I were you :-)

I thought Netherlands was "The Netherlands."

I'm using GPO Style Manual, and they don't provide specifics on this. AP Style Guide, if memory serves me right, does not use the serial comma. Big no-no for me. :).

It is like "The Washington Post." In colloquy, you would write this: "I receive the Washington Post," and have Washington Post italicized, leaving the "the" not italicized.

The Hague, The Netherlands, they confuse me. :o

This is a cool thread.

Upper left area of the page, click on "User CP" It shows the list of rep you have received (but as Jam said, it gets cut off, only showing the 20 most recent).

The page is nice too because it shows a list of unread PM's and a list of your subscribed threads with new posts. I always go to the page first when I get onto AZ.
