McAfee cougt it but Microsoft Security Essentials didn't.

You can download Malwarebytes free from CNET and it often catches what the others don't. It's a manual scan but I run mine every few weeks and occasionally it catches something that slipped through.

I'm running it as we speak.

I run the purchased Malwarebytes version after running the free download version. I run 'quick scan' couple times a day if I'm on the laptop. I run 'full scan' every night after updating defnitions. Possible overkill, but I have been virus burned before......I'm still scared of Java....

Norton 360 intercepted and quarantined the CritXpack this morning as soon as I logged on to my laptop. I don't know what any of this means...

If anyone gets this message after this post (roughly 6pm Eastern Time), please let me know.

Mike

Not sure it makes any difference but I have logged in and out several times today and only received the warning the first time I logged in. After that I have not seen any more warnings..

I have turned off the banners for a little while. I will get back on this later tonight.

I got warning at 5:45 pm 2-20-2013

I got warning at 5:45 pm 2-20-2013.. I use the free AVG..

It is definitely the ad banner software. It is shut off for now. Will deal with it after league tonight.

OK gang, I think I have this resolved. If anyone gets another warning, please post in this thread to let me know.

Should anyone who didn't get a warning from their anti-virus software be concerned about malware, or was the whole thing "harmless?"

Mike,

Is there any way you can install something that automatically resizes images that people post? It's very common that people post images that are so big they force the text off screen and we have to scroll sideways to read every post.

2nd vote for image resizer, it's always a nuisance... in the short term I right click and adblock the image as if it were an ad. Then it goes away and so does the horizontal scroll.

Thanks for clearing up critxpack thing mike... quick question: was the link to it something that cycled in and out (so not everyone who visited the page would necessarily get a warning)? Or was it something that should theoretically set off every visitor's AV program? In which case some of us probably need to update?
