shaft and tip, what do you use?

Marc in Spain

Hi, I am from the UK and now live in Spain, I am new to this forum and and hoping for some help. I have been trying out some different shafts and tips for my cue.

314-2 + moori
Z-2 + Moori
Solid maple shaft + triangle med
Hybrid shaft + Kamui black medium

I prefer a harder contact and feel to the shaft but also want the tip not to miscue due to being overhard or no grab. I am not sure if I am the only one but I find the predator shafts flex allot when you play english and can miscue?

It looks like many pros use solid shafts and longer ferrules?

Does anyone have any info they can offer on shaft and tip combos they have tried and used ? I have found my best result so far to be a sold shaft and triangle tip which surprised me as I have tried much more expensive tips.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Regards

Marc

314-2 - Sniper
Carolina Cues shaft - Sniper
Carolina Cues shaft - Moori, just so other ppl can try it out in case they want me to put a Moori on their cue
Lomax J/B - Whatever type of tip Steve puts on it which is great.

Hi, Thanks for the reply and info, do you know of any recommended shaft / cue makers where I could get a custom shaft made. I have had a look on the net but I would prefer to look at a recommended company.

I have been a long time Moori (medium) fan, but recently switched to the Everest tip by Tiger. I feel that I can get a lot more on the cue ball with the Tiger tip.

I don't really notice the flex in my 314-2 Shaft at all but I love the way it hits , I've got a smaller tip on mine , I believe Its a 12.30 mm and I've wishing somedays I would have gotten a 12.50 because I do miscue every now and then but I have no complants over all with the shaft .

My Predator 314-2 shaft Everest med.
Predator Break shaft Everest Med.
Mcdormotte Shaft Lepro

Moori soft or Kamui soft.

Both of them feel the same to me and gives excellent performance.

Hi, thanks for all the info, It looks like the solid shafts are still favorite with many people. Many people favour Moori tips but the pressed tips seem to get very good reports to.

I will take a look on the net for some of these shaft makers.

Has anyone used a break shaft as a playing shaft with playing tip? I have a person here in spain who uses a bk2 and moori tip, he said it plays well??

Thanks

Marc

I use a custom one-piece shaft, hollowed at the front end, conical taper (stiff hit), 10mm diameter with a Sniper layered tip (hard).

I've used Moori hard tips for years but wanted to try something else, so I got some Snipers, some Everests and some Molavias. Of all the tips I've tried I like the Snipers best - they seem to last forever without mushrooming or compressing out of existence. I don't believe that one tip is better than another for spinning the ball or for avoiding miscues, so lasting a long time without changing hardness is my primary consideration.
