Shaft comes unscrewed during play

I have been dealing with the shaft of my cue coming unscrewed during play. This happened with the first wooden shaft on an intro level Players cue and on another with a CF shaft. Is this a sign of poor quality? Or is there something in my stroke causing this?

I do NOT slam the balls around at all. I hit normally. I usually notice it after a few shots as the hit will produce an odd sound and I will then have to tighten the shaft.

Anyone have any insight into something like this or have any experience such as this?

Thanks in advance.

Its caused from poor facings on the shaft, butt or both

You can also put shaft wax on your treads. This works really well but you should clean it periodically with a Q-tip and alcohol.

All these wax thingy is not gonna help if that cue has a 5/16 18 screw with brass insert .
It has a loose connection or the brass insert is moving .

Not sure which joint you have, but I have this problem on occasion with my Uni-Loc cue joint (predator). I can tell when its coming loose because of the sound the cue makes when I hit a ball. I try and get in the habbit of giving it a quick cinch up on the first shot of every rack.

Possibly.... I seen wood shaft and immediately thought 3/8 x 10. Not sure why.

Old school 3/8 10 like McDermott's are horrible .
I'm dealing with one now . The screw is only .360 outside and .275 inside .
3/8 10 taps ( usual ) are .295 inside and .375" outside.
They wobble when you drill the hole and tap at the tap's matching numbers .
Just horrible .

I have the exact same problem with my Predator. It happening more often though. Not sure if it's a problem from the uniloc pin.

I have owned cues with every joint. Only Uniloc joint gave me any trouble. If your player has a Uniloc you just get in habit of casually checking on it throughout play in between shots. Notorious for coming loose unless you really crank them together assembling. They will let you know should they loose tight contact during play.

Also, as Joey said if you have 5/16 x 18 with brass insert that is getting loose check your 'inserts' could be loose.

Notorious for coming loose?
Notorious for freezing up, too.
That is one tough pin to live with. The excitement never ends.

The only one I ever had that did that had an insert too.
It has been fixed without further issues.

I've seen 2 changes in McD recently. One of those, was that REALLY slick, live tooled then waxed or treated jobs not on a USA McD,but on a 50 dollar Lucky. I have also seen a different Lucky that oddly enough had a flat faced brass insert, that was pretty snug on that pin. Tommy D.

Possibly a shaft insert issue.

There's a Loctite super glue product that is very thin, like water, and penetrates well. I used that -- problem solved.

Uni-lok joints are horrendous for loosening up. I love my BK Rush - best break stick I ever owned. But every once in a while it loosens up. I chose to just tightening it up every break rather than use shaft wax as I've done on Uni-lok shooters in the past. I no longer use the Uni-lok joint. My Predators, other than the BK Rush, are all Radial joint. I wish Predator would go to the Radial joint exclusively.

Opposite experience with my Uniloc.
Been using it since I got it in 2011.... no problems.
