I want to buy shaft sealer. I have everything else. Cleaner, wax. I dont do repairs every day and just getting started, so not wanting a big bottle. Where can i get a small bottle and what are you guys using?

Chris Hightower or cue components both have a smaller shaft sealer. There are others just google it.

lol..............

you know after you said hightower i went back and found it on his page. I dont know why i did not see it before lol.

Thanks,
mossy

Hightowers works great I have found many uses for it including a nice shine and slick feel for a linen wrap

Me likes Chris's sealer. I have tried a couple of others including Zinser Bullseye because I can buy that locally. Not bad but I prefer Chris's over all.

Minski, I have been using his sealer to shine up my wraps since I started using it.
I just had a thought one day, since it works so well on a shaft, why not give it a whirl on a wrap. If I do an over all maintenance for someone that includes a wrap clean, I will ask how they like the feel of the wrap. If they say they like it smooth, they get the sealer.

Lasts for quite some time too.

Deft sanding sealer, lacquer based....from .Lowes............. it's what most use...........

Some use clear shellac but it you clean the shaft with alcohol wipes, it will get sticky and rough.........

I use shellac thinned with denatured alcohol synthetic wax. From my understanding most wood sealers
like shellac or lacquer is thinned 50% shellac/ denatured alcohol, lacquer/lacquer thinner.

I start out with a product you can buy at Wal Mart, but thin it and add a little something extra. A quart lasts me a year at less than 10 bucks a can,and it RULES. It even looks cool in the bottle ;). Tommy D.

Lowes no longer sells Deft products. I had to order on line...JER

I think shellac is the worst thing you can use on a shaft. It yellows, is sticky and does not produce the glide effect (too much resistance) we need to stroke a shaft. I tried everything imaginable and shellac for me is at the very bottom of the list. In fact, I removed it from the list as it is just not an option.

I am using Clear shellac to seal the shaft , I have never heard of anyone thinking any wood sealer is not sticky ?
I use polymer synthetic car wax over the shellac to make it slick.

Most carnauba waxes have a yellow tint to. In reality everything will change the wood color. chalk, the oil on your hands, sunlight . Name anything that will not. Lacquer yellows after so many years too.
.
There is one thing that can be said for shellac, If you don't like it you can take a damp cloth soaked in denatured alcohol and rub it right off. NO HARM DONE.
Most cue repairman and cue makers have different ways of doing the same thing.
And Not here to split hairs.

My shafts are not sticky and shellac and wax is all I have used on them for a decade.
And they are not overly yellow.

A thin layer of CA glue before sanding and wax also works. I like super blond shellac as well but is not quite as clear as CA.

I used a woodturning sealer called Turner's Magic for years. The friction from burnishing the wood with leather or whatever and letting it get warm dries it.

The stuff I use now is WATER clear when applied, but looks like breast milk in the bottle,LOL. I start at the tip end,and make 3 passes.

By the time I pull that next Viva off the roll,it's totally dry. I take a couple of swipes with fresh 1000 to knock off high spots in the sealer, then buff it and wax.

I'm quite fond of giving it a final inspection and handing it back to the customer and see their facial expression change . Tommy D.

......

i got it!!!!!! i got a can of deft sanding sealer. going to do a 50/50 mix with laq. thinner. After talking to everyone and searching az, this should do the trick.

thanks all.

Home depot here didn't have anything but the Minwax and this tonight when my wife went to pick up supplies for me. Since I haven't opened it yet and can return it I thought I would put the feelers out first. Does anyone else have an opinion on how this product works? It is the waterbase Parks Pro Sealer by Rustoleum....I'm kind of concerned about using a water base sealer on shafts and open wood. The other concern I have is the 1hour dry time.
