Shane vs. Dennis Hatch

No...I think he has never been given the proper respect as a Top player because of his past. I watched him play as a 14 yr old boy along with George Breedlove and Brian Gross when they were on the road with Greg{dad, R.I.P.}, his mom and Mark Hatch {uncle, good shortstop} during the Motorhome days, all three had talent but Dennis was special. Only 16yr old that I ever witnessed that had most of what Dennnis posessed was Chan Witt {died in a auto accident before he was 19}, now I am dating myself.

Voodoo~~~BigHurt and I agree alot these days, I knew I liked him for some reason:p

FYI: Gregg Hatch used two g's in his name not one. Gregg was an interesting man to talk to on a variety of subjects.

FYI 2: Brian Groce spells his name with a "ce" not double s's.

Just trying to share some information, not trying to be the spelling cop.

i want to see dennis hatch vs rodney morris for some cash to see who the left handed king lol

Throw in Thomas Engert and you got a throw-down.

of course ! cant forget him.. but the reason why i bought up dennis and rodney is because they both from the US.. both left handed.. both super talented and plays fast and loose.

Have to lean towards SVB. When i was in vegas last month i saw orcollo and svb getting ready to play. Now i knew of shane but in a race to 15 for 5 small, i had 2 people offering me dennis for a ben each and figured i had the best of it. With dennis up 9-6 i go on a adult bev run. I come back and it's 10-10. Bottom line 15-14 and 15-10 to the sdk....SVB. As a fellow lefty i love hatch's game but shane has a lot of mo right now. Hook up this match....NOW. PPV and i am in.

Shannon fits that bill as well.

If you had seen Keith at 16, you wouldn't be saying that.

Yeah.. I saw a video of Dennis at either 16 or 18, and he still had some work to be done on his mental game. He'd run out from everywhere, but he accidentally hooked himself, and wailed away at a kick out of frustration, when he had an easy kick safe, if he'd just calmed down and looked a the table..

I have seen some of the more recent propoolvideo.com matches, and the player he is now could spot his 16 year old self a few games on the wire just due to his mental game.

I have been wondering why Dennis hasn't done all that well in the majors recently. He's got a lot more natural talent than his results have been showing..

I think when we are talking gambling, Thomas gets manhandled by these two. When it comes to tournaments, too in Rodney's case.

Dennis has always been a huge dissapointment on the tourney scene.

I remember years ago, a local tourney here with second rate players, Hatch goes for about 60% of the calcutta, breezes to the finals and then gets smoked by a local hack

a young Alex was about 12 in that tourney

His off the court issues have always come into play, as we all know there are many.

He might of been the best 16 year old ever.. and I mean ever!!

Did you ever hear of a kid named Chia Ching Wu? He plays some also :D

Ever? How about when Ralph Greenleaf was a kid? Or Jimmy Caras? Luther Lassiter was playing in Norfolk at 16.....Earl Strickland was already taking road trips at 16. Shannon Daulton at 16 was a seasoned gambler who was great at banks and 1 pocket also, not just 9 ball. Alex Pagulayan was....

Ever?

Dennis Hatch had great POTENTIAL, but, his attention was divided between boxing and pool. These others were focused on one thing....McCready and Reyes SLEPT in the pool room

Oh, I almost forgot....I'll take SVB in this match up.

How nice would it be if these two pros posted THEIR opinions and views of this proposed showdown. In fact, it would be awesome if before every significant money match, we could hear inside views from the respective players. Good natured woofing would encouraged. The railbirds could also chime in with their views. Ironman, Jay or somebody of that ilk can be our on the spot reporter for a rack by rack account.
I think all those things would add to an already exciting event.

What about Parica? Supposedly, by the time he was 17 Amang was no.1 in the Philippines. That's huge!

Blah Blah Blah...Lassiter, Greenleaf and Caras...like anyone alive is old enuff to see them play as 16yr olds? I did see Shannon in Somerset at a young age, Charlie Williams/Max Eberle in Nashville at the Jr Nationals, Archer and Tony Ellin <who I grew up with in Miami and I took to the pool room when he was 14>. Wu shmu...:D

Voodoo~~still like Dennis Hatch, even after all that!!

agreed regarding Chia Ching Wu

with two World titles to his credit, easily the best 16 yr old ever

Hard to disagree with Wu. As far as Americans go I would have to agree with Voodoo and Jay, Keith and Dennis were both the nuts at 16.

Voodoo,

Blah blah blah??? When somebody says so and so was "the best EVER", should we know that he means EVER to really mean the last 10 years? The best ever from Buffalo? (That's Danny D!) Or how about this..."Richard Nixon was the very 1st President" What about all those Presidents before him? Same thinking here...Greenleaf died almost 60 years ago, but his death didn't eradicate his great accomplishments, did it? The same goes for every other great of the past. Just because I never met George Washington does not mean he was not the first Pres. Just because the somebody never saw Jimmy Caras, does that really make Caras's accomplishments invalid?

Chia Ching "I am the World 9 Ball AND World 8 Ball Champion" Wu and you call him Wu Shmu?

What title did Hatch have at 16? I can't remember.....

PS-This was a very un-voodoo like post.

heard about dennis hatch for a long time butonly recently started seeing him play thanks to propoolvideo.com

don't know anything about his life problems - could anybody give us a rundown of his troubles?

what i do know though from what i've seen is that he's an amazing player and should be a household name up there with the archers and stricklands of this world. what a pure game he has. fast, loose, powerful, accurate, inspiring to watch. he's definitely become a favourite.

Who discredited anyone? This was a Shane vs Dennis thread...not a Terry vs Voodoo thread. Wu shmu is right...he one two majors and that is awesome for anyone any age BUT there are a number of one shot wonders, agreed? So I guess the next thread shoud be Wu vs Hatch? Greenleaf vs Caras? JimBo vs Wilson? oops, lol. Regardless of any of this, opinions are flying and no one will really EVER knows, will we?

Voodoo~~I drank 7-Up today, thus the un-Voodoo like post?:D
