Sharks???? Really???

Rant?? I hardly think my couple of sentences would be defined as a rant. I think I just gave my review of something just like you would for anything, be it a short movie clip or a product. Granted, I will give the man his fair due for the effort. But I do think that some of the members here get a little carried away in their defense of the game. I have the utmost respect for the game and will wager that I have been around it, played it and am still involved in the game more than MOST of the members on AZ!! If I had cussed Mr. Murnak or just out and out insulted him I may deserve some of the "ranks" that have been directed at me. All I did was give my opinion of a short movie, be it free or paid for. I am sure he didn't expect an Academy award for it. And I still stand by my comments. Sorry Mr. Murnak............

Well, I watched an episode of Sharks today. That was 6:28 that I wasted that I can never get back. Guess Murnak has made a ton on cases and had to spend it somewhere. Geez............

There's a couple of ways to look at it. (Well, the obvious is to look at it with your eyes closed and ears muffed, but that's besides the point.:grin-square: )

One way to look at it is you might be scarred for life. The other more positive way is from now on those gawdawful made-4-tv movies on syfy channel might actually start looking good.

sharks? really?

episode ten. much like the others, awful. i posted a comment that wasn't published on you tube- "I'm still waiting for the one-pocket episode." Figured he understood my meaning, that's why he didn't publish it. Now a week later, there are 450 views and 2 comments. The attack and horror of this woman being stalked by a monster means nothing to me as a pool player and i can't support this as art that involves the game. Maybe it will get better. Seems more about DUMBO than pool. And where are the sharks?

You have to admit that it spawns really funny threads like this. That's definitely a positive and who knows- maybe that was the intention all along?

Except "Pirahnaconda"! It's like a comedy with no intended humor.

Personally, I praise anyone for their ambition and creativeness to make something from nothing. Like short films or cue cases.

Thanks for your opinion

People can't wait to post a negative experience about a person or product, yet that seldom gets attention. This post is no different, he posted his opinion and you jump in his guts! It's not the greatest "show", but did you ever think it may be drawing attention to pool that we don't want? Non pool players or those interested in the sport may see it as negative or possibly a "you mean this is supposed to get me to play pool?!?". It's a great effort, bit it's simply not enough....or that great.

This is my opinion, feel free to bash me....Which speaks volumes of how some of the pool community is looked upon. We trash each other over the dumbest things, yet we want to be perceived as "promoting" our sport/hobby. It ain't working.

I want to answer this because you bring up an interesting point. In the first place, if the show never deals with anything other than what pool players like to watch, then it will never be seen by anyone else but pool players. The stories are about people who happen to play pool. Things happen to everyone and things happen to these characters as well.

My goal is to go outside of the pool world and get people used to seeing the pool environment and realize that there are a lot of interesting things that go on in a pool room, as well as showing the beauty of modern poolrooms and the game. Some of the people who watch Sharks who don't play pool are always extremely impressed with the pool shots that are shown, even though most of us have seen them before and are pretty much blase about it. This is not bad for pool.

With a steady supply of highly viewed murder mysteries on TV and in theaters, I don't think I'm out of line to try for some of that audience. Much of this series tries to deal with situations that arise in the pool setting. If it isn't your thing, I totally understand. There are millions of videos that just show pool games.

thanks,
Jim

This guy must just have something against jim. I think his cases and now this are good for pool. If more people stepped up like jim, maybe pool would be in a better state right now.

Ok so i just watched all of them in a row this morning. i have to say im a little disapointed in the acting and story line. but like the pro player aspect quit a bit.

id like to see more but it seems like theres alot of diffrent aspects going on all at once.

Overall anything new and pool related that can help our industry we have to support it and give it credit. So thanks jim im ready for episode 11

As far as "only pool players" goes...A guy I sent a link to is hooked...and this is a car board guy. A lot of effort for fun...thank you, Jim.

Well, I still think it wouldn't hurt to have something along the lines of the mile high club but in this case, it would be the diamond 9 ft. Club :D

I'm figuring it would be a ratings explosion.

Thank You !

There are two co-workers of mine that don't know anything about pool and love it.

as soon as i found out about episode, i went to the link and watched them all for the first time from 1-10. i really like it. yea its cheesy, but what tv show isnt a little cheesy? ive been wanting someone to do a show like this for a while. a pool soap opera if you will. my only beef with this show is that its not long enough. i wish the episodes were longer. other than that, great job jim and keep up the awesome work. the hell with what others think. lol

Thank you very much.
It is supposed to be a soap opera and a little cheesy.

That was the fun of it.

I look more forward to Sharks than any show on television. Well until Survivor is back on again. Oh and a new season of modern family.
