Has this happened to you and how do you handle it?
Well, I just got hit with additional shipping charges from UPS on these 2nd cut shafts I've been selling that some of you know about. Usually when I print my own label it's roughly $10 to $15 dollars. I've made about 8 shipments lately and the last two were hit with $24.00 and $23.50 additional handling for shipping in tubes that was debited from my PayPal acct.
So I called UPS and they did credit the charges but pointed me to their web page; "How To Avoid Shipping Charge Corrections" linked below.
These additional charges were because I've been shipping in 2" tubes. Under "Additional Handling" there's a bullet point that says:
- A package that is not fully encased in corrugated cardboard. Any cylindrical-like item, such as a barrel, drum, pail or tire, that is not fully encased in a corrugated cardboard shipping container.
So after reading this I called a UPS Store and they said UPS implemented this about a year ago and that's why they no longer sell tubes in the store. Wish they would have told me when I walked and shipped my own tube.
I guess I'll buy some 36x4x4 rectangle corrugated boxes.
