Shooting a LOT lately......just not pool.

I don't know what's going on with me. I get into funks every now and then. Get heavy into something....then sort of burn out on it. It's been that way with pool for me lately.

First...I got majorly burnt out with leagues. Three nights a week...Captain of all three teams kind of wore me down. Add the usual league drama...the long drive to the pool hall (25 miles one way)...then getting home after midnight most nights...well, you get the idea.

Next, some of my friends who used to come over regularly to play at my house got busy with other aspects of their lives (new children, marriage, etc.). This bums me out because I miss them coming over.

So, what I've been doing lately is shooting guns more. Bought a few new rifles....got back to handloading....spending my hunting "off-season" calling predators....and generally having a blast with it. Hell, I'm even enjoying cleaning my firearms after a shooting session...and I used to HATE doing that.

Nobody would ever notice....but I haven't been spending a lot of time here on AZB as of late. Just cannot keep the fires burning for pool like I was a few years ago. I learned much here during the past 8 years....and have been thoroughly entertained by many of the members and their eclectic threads.

This is not a "See you later and thanks for the memories" type of thread I've started here. The door's not going to hit me in the ass on the way out because I'm not leaving....just not going to be participating as much.

You guys and gals stay cool...shoot 'em well...and for cryin' out loud, don't leave the money-ball hangin'!!!

Maniac...everybody needs a break sometimes.(although tough to convince the wife)

Hope to hear from ya soon...whenever that may be.

Pursuing other interests is just rotating your enthusiasm for a while.

take care

I'd be more concerned about the wife....

I'd be more concerned about the wife when trying to get BACK into pool after taking a break, than when stopping initially.

I can't take a break from pool or my wife will never let me back....

been there

Couple of my friends are still on the FoxPro pro team last I knew and another friend, now gone, was calling with a record player with the sounds on a 78! Many of Johnny Stewart's sounds came from him. All of them live far from me and I have never been successful calling a varmint, or only to a camera a few times to be more accurate. Pretty cool to be able to see a coyote and talk it over a foot bridge that I knew golfers had walked across only fifteen minutes before!

I pursued accuracy in rifles to a ridiculous level, owned three 6PPC benchrest rifles, sifted powder, turned brass necks to 1/1000 of a RCH, designed my own rest, eventually shot under the world record but not in conditions to set a record so no pressure from there. I'm turning wood these days. All these things are the pursuit of perfection, as is shooting pool. Different outlets is all.

Last I checked custom bullets cost little over the boxed stuff for reloading, some were cheaper! Quality custom bullets shot two tenths smaller groups for me out of my AR than V-Max bullets. Both under an inch but a huge gain from .8's to .6's, saw similar gains in other rifles. Never had a critter complain because I hit them with a benchrest hollowpoint instead of a hunting hollowpoint or V-Max either. Went to move years ago and couldn't budge my bullet box. Think I had over 200 pounds of custom bullets back then! Along with my cue wood most of those got ruined in Hurricane Isaac. I have a few Fowlers, Gentners, and Watsons but they are memories of old friends. I don't know if I can bring myself to shoot them, I'll never shoot the last handful for sure. They were all truly grand old gentlemen of the game. Reminds me, if you are burnt out with pool get into benchrest competition for awhile. Your wife will make you go back to shooting pool!!

Shoot'em up.

Maniac,

It's funny how things seem to play out.

I too have been wanting to light some primers
after many years off. I have called critters in the
US and in Mexico and can't even begin to count
how many I rolled. Like ShootingArts I shot
competitively for most of my life HP silhouettes,
pistol silhouettes, IPSC, and steel. If you are a
full fledged participant in these sports they require
a lot of time and a lot of work. Cleaning guns,
practice, reloading, and match participation ( RO ing).

My kids and wife participated in many of these as well
and created some of the best memories of my life. So
enjoy your vacation from pool. Create good times with
good people and good memories. The shooting
community is one of the best communities around.

Enjoy,
Joe

Everything in moderation my friend. I think (we as males) tend to fall into an activity a little too deep sometimes. Before we know it,... we are in it up to our neck for good or for bad. Sooner or later we burn out.
Glad you found some "other" activities to round out life for yourself. A balanced lifestyle, ie, work, family, hobbies, enrich an individual.
I will miss seeing less of your posts in here as we often share views on pool related issues, (and life too!)

Stay sane you MANIAC. :)
