Short fuse?

It was a race to 5 and he was locked up tight with my safety when I pulled up. I was very likely about to go on the hill. Truth is I let him off and he knew it.

You're much kinder than me. I would have sat patiently waiting on payday.

Playing cheap 8 ball last night (20 a set) after league with one of my friends and a couple girls he knows come into the place. He says hey on their way in and the say hey back. A while later it's his shot and he has his back to the table talking to one of them for probably 45 seconds. He turns around and asks if it's his shot. Two innings later I play a safety and get up from the table and he has his back turned to the table again with them at the bar. After 30 seconds of watching this I unscrewed and 15 seconds later when he finally turns around he says, are you quitting? Why? The girls think I'm the biggest ass they've ever seen and my friend wants me to pay the set if I'm going to quit. I declined to do that. I was leading 3-2 at the time and had already won the first set. Neither one of us drink and no, the ladies were not hot. (in case anyone thinks that should be a factor)

IMO if the girls are the ones engaging him in conversation he should posture his body watching the table to signal that this game is his priority. It was his back to the table that pissed me off.

Is this ok behavior and I'm just being an ass like they said?

JC

Guy is looking for action off the table...I'd say you are a bad wingman...a C blocker and basic bad action. The way pool is headed , you better expect a lot of aggravation in the future.

Agree that you should have said something before unscrewing.

Guy can't wait 45 seconds to get the dead nuts safety reward [BIH] and go to the hill for $20.

Instead he has to calmly tell nobody what he's doing. Pack it up, tell his friend what a bad sportsmen he is after quitting...winner... MID-SET!! (Irony, kids... irony).

Then comes on here talkin' bout pit bulls and lesbians and expects not to get grilled.

Ever had a friend you wanted to chat with walk into the pool room when you're playing? This sounds like one of those cases. Let it go, my brother. Let it go. That wasn't the Derby and it wasn't for next months rent check.

Funny I had asked my friend earlier last night what his ideal woman was and he said it was the kind that knows they need to be gone by daylight. Maybe it was just me that thought they were homely.;)

Why didn't you just tell him your opinion to begin with?

I don't think the passive approach is very good. You need to say to him clearly and directly "hey man, I'm happy to play this set, but you keep letting your attention go to other things, which takes the fun out of it for me. If you want to go do something else, that's fine we can call it off. Otherwise I'd appreciate it if you pay attention to our game."

You gotta be clear.

Run into these types all the time playing in bars.

Some of them do it intentionally just to shark you.

The answer to this is to just sit there and not take your turn at the table until they are engaged as to what is going on at the table. This is especially true if you are playing BIH on all fouls.

I thought I was crystal clear and in a lot less words.

Good post.
In the future we will just become bangers and hitting on all the rough girls.

Time is now to make the necessary adjustments.

I know most of you would rather play a well paced game, but when you become outwardly irritated everyone in that house now knows how to get under your skin and if you ever play anyone in a meaningful match the first thing they will do is slow it way down. I think you have to learn to give it right back. So he turns and talks to a couple of shrews, some wall flowers that will even accept attention from a pool player, he's gonna miss, and when he does get down and stroke a couple of times then go to the bathroom, or to the bar, out to your car, check your wallet, find a friend to talk to. He may take a minute or two to shoot, if that's too long think how pissed he'll be when you take 10. Give it right back a couple of times, that will probably change things a bit

I used my words afterwards to explain why that was poor etiquette and why he needed to learn it. This guy takes pool just as seriously as I do or more so usually. After I quit he played another of our buddies a couple races to 3 for 100. Didn't see him distracted then. I guess we were playing too cheap to hold his attention. But no chance in hell I will get that kind of action from him or the other guy. It was all good by the time we all left. What was funny is he won the first 100 set and bought those girls and their friend a drink with some of it. Then he lost the second one and they quit and he realized he was the loser of the night with the cost of the drinks and the first set he lost to me. I went home to my wife, he went home to his pit bull.

Pool...pussy...

Doesn't sound like a terribly hard analysis to me.

I think you need to call him right now and apologize for the cock block.

Hopefully ,you won't have to say sorry to the dog.

Yes IMHO you are Def being an ass. For $20 bucks really? It should have been for fun which means anything goes. Either you don't like having fun or u don't like girls, but either way yes on being an ass.

It was a VD block and he is the one who owes me a thank you for it if anything. Plus the 20 I let him keep bought some food for his dog. Who is BTW much more useful than those snags who were interrupting my pool night.

That was not pussy, it was rugged as hell.
