No.
Because it's easily circumvented. The point of all this is that it's the content that matters.
A person has to be very brave who has something at stake to post on any forum or social network with their real information.
If someone anonymous is trolling then treat them like the homeless guy on the corner who says screw you as you drive by.
What we don't do enough of here is self-moderate.
There are rules. There is a button right next to the REP button that allows you ro REPORT A BAD POST
So when someone is getting out of line then simply vote them off the island with BAD POST reports. Then it doesn't matter if they are a real name poster or not.
Respect people's right to be anonymous if they choose to be. However anonymous people should also be given very little to no credibility for anything they write that is accusatory or testimonial.
It's pretty simple really, if it can't reasonably be verified then it's just words on a screen which could be fact of fiction. So people would be wise to treat it as such.
Now if an anonymous person makes a point that is worthy of discussion then discuss the point and not whether it's valid or not simply because you don't know who said it.
An example is when some anonymous person posts a story about a cue dealer who steals from widows. Instead of debating the point of whether it's ok to "steal" from widows half the people go nuts wanting to know WHO the dealer is and the other half want the widow's phone number. And the third half want the anonymous person to out himself and reveal his real name before 'making such heinous accusations' about some cue dealer.
In fact the story, whether real or not, simply brings up an ethical point about transacting, without details to verify and support it is nothing more than that question wrapped in a hypothetical situation.
And this comes up all the time in various ways.
People who want to be anonymous have that right. People who want to antagonzie and harrass don't have that right. But if the community tolerates it then it will continue.
And real names, in so far as they are real anyway, won't stop people from behaving like jerks just because they facing a computer rather than a real person.
Now, if the forums had something along the lines of an automatic time out - say when a poster's posts reached a certain amount of Bad Posts then his account was shut down for an hour, then a day, then a week, then forever.
THEN this nonsense would stop because it would cease to be easy and fun for the trolls.
