Should there be a "Rack Clock" at US Open?

Just watched Lee Van spend about 5 minutes racking for himself, only to scratch on the break. Yeah, yeah, racking is important, but since there is now a shot clock, why not make a rack clock? Watching players rack for more than 1 minute is boring, why can't they get an official to rack? So ridiculous.

Rack Clock: Yah

That is a great idea. I am sure there is plenty wrong with this idea, but I like it. lol

Completely agree with you SC...
Unfortunately it would be yet another way to F£$K UP this beautiful game.

Not sure why they are all having a hard time racking on this table. Maybe Kenny should be racking for them.

Why are they still using traditional racks? Why not force the use of racking templates??

Back in the late 90's to mid 2000's, I was lucky enough to play with four other fantastic guys and competed very strong in our state. One very good player from another top team left his team and formed his own superstar team and they would be out there looking over the rack and hands above the table and pointing to some ball that was not tight and so on and so on. Of course, these were bar box tables with plastic racks and you could spend all day with those crooked crap things and the rack was only going to get as good as the rack itself was. So, we just started throwing the rack on the table and them rack their own. I swear, it sure seemed they never made a ball off their own rack and we would run their table. Now days, it's a rack your own thing and that's fine with me, I still walk up and if the bottom row is square with the table, have at it. Actually, it would be nice to see more inconsistent racks and breaks to bring more flavor into the game. There is a shot clock, so, why not include the shot clock in while racking their own rack, if there is an extension, they cue use one like during the match.

I think this is a great idea. 30 second rack clock from the time all the balls are on the table and the rack is on the table.

Within that 30 seconds, the players can do whatever they want. They will have to split their time between trying for a perfect rack, and reading the rack they got to determine how to break them.

This will keep the skill of racking and the skill of rack reading in the game. It will simply force the player to do them both within 30 seconds. It might actually increase the skill required, because the player will have to read a less than perfect rack if he doesn't have all day to rack.

A violation of the rack clock would result in loss of break.

By the time you get enough volunteers to do the timing, couldn't you just have the volunteers do the racking?
