A study was done around 2004 to determine on what color, objects are easiest for the eye to see in detail. What color is your computer monitor, for example? This shade of Light Blue was found to be that color. Greg Sullivan, changed the DCC tables color, around 06 and if you noticed around that same time, the Tennis courts were changed from green to blue, as well.
This transition in the standard cloth color, has been one of the few times, the pool world has led the way in anything, that applied to the larger real world, too!

While that may be true, pool is supposed to resemble lawn croquet. Tennis is also supposed to be played on grass. "Which is green".

thanks alot for the lovely information.....Now i know why they have gone wild on the blue clothes instead of greens, but personally I still do love playing and watching pool on green! :P

at this point im the only one choosing "cream". and i am assuming you meant Simonis Gold. Its what i learned to play on way back when. with good full good spectrum bulbs the contrast between the balls and cloth is very high and you dont lose the edges of the darker balls to the shadow under the rail on the longer shots. I love tourney blue, and traditional green, but the GOLD is NUMERO UNO in my book.

Curious so far as to how this poll is going. When i think of pool i think green. Same as golf.
Most rooms still use green. It seems that Diamond is the ones pushing the blue so they can be different then Brunswick or any other billiard co.
Blue for home use just doesn't work well for most homes IMHO.

I gotta go with tourney blue for both by diamond pro and 7' valley bar box. Of course, I've got deep purple painted cinder block walls in my basement which really makes the blue stand out and look really cool. Just my opinion though.

1000% vote for Tournament Blue. It brightens up the table, no balls blend in with the color and it's the best color to show contrast on every ball. I personally feel that it's 100 times easier to pick up thin cut shots because of the contrast.

Tournament blue on a Diamond...

Green on Gold Crown...

and

Camel on my 9' Sport King at home with
brass plated pocket castings.

I have had 3 sets of simonis 860 on my home table, first 2 were simonis green, the latest tournament blue.

Without a doubt the blue is easier on the eyes, easier to see the balls and just looks better!

I think you can't judge the color from what you see on tv, you have to put in some time to actually see tyhe difference....

Also, this is specific to simonis tournament blue..NOT the championship electric blue which I find to be much harder on the eyes after long playing sessions.

I've always stuck with green, but after hearing many remarks about blue being better for old eyes, I had Simonis powder blue put on the Gold Crown last year. I was surprised to find that I do see and shoot better on the blue cloth. It definitely improved my game, such as it is.
I still don't like the Tournament blue. It's just too bright (anyone remember Kodacolor?).

Green or Blue? I voted green, but I am starting to like blue.

Just don't try to sell me a ball set containing a pink ball!

No room for a table here...:sorry:

I was just happy to have her not mind converting the dining room into a pool room. I told my wife we are going to recover the table at the 3 year mark, hopefully she'll warm up to blue by then.

I seem to have to do it almost annually. My home table gets alot of play, though you'd never know it to watch me play. 7' Diamond Pro/Am with Tourney Blue....
