Simonis X-1: Has Anyone Tried This? Any Reviews?

I'm all for trying the next alleged better mouse trap, but at $90.00 for the opportunity I'm a little gun shy.

I clean my tables with a simple table roller meant for taking lint off of clothes.

It works extremely well and leaves absolutely no residue on the cloth.

Has anyone used this thing? I'm not even clear on "how" it works. Thanx! -Z-

I used to manage a pool hall and the owner bought one to try. It actually works really well for getting chalk off the table.
 
I have one and feel almost robbed of the 90. I use the $15 lint roller, that is about 10" wide, and its the best.

One thing about the x-1, is it ONLY gets chalk. Absolutely no lint or larger dirt. It just pushes those around, instead of picking them up. So you'd still need to use your lint roller.
 
I also have an x-1, it's ok for a quick touch up between games. To clean properly, vacuuming and damp cloth is much better imho. If the x-1 had a plain plastic handle and sold for $19.99 it might be a ok deal. I would not recommend this product as is.

I have to agree with the posters above, it does a good job of grabbing chalk between racks if you have large spots, but I find vacuuming and a damp cloth much more effective in general.

The other issue I have is I can't seem to find a way to clean mine of the chalk in it - I vacuum it, bang on it etc but very little chalk leaves the X-1 when I do so...

Absolute waste of time and money...IMO Right up there with $30 Kamui Chalk.


Just get a shop Vac, or even a good portable vac, then a damp washcloth with hot water, lightly go over, let dry.

Hint: DoNOT use your wife's good washcloth's.:grin:
 
I have one and feel much the same as others. It is ok but no substitute for the vacuum.

You've been on AZ since Dec 08, and are jusy now asking about the X1? It's been reviewed like a 100 times, but i guess it's time for another review...LOL
 
Agree with the prior posts. Not very effective by itself. I do a pass with hand vac, then a second pass with the X-1, then finish with damp cloth. The X-1 gets a little additional chalk up after the vac, but no way it could do the job by itself. If you haven't already bought one, I would recommend against it.
 
i use it to quick clean chalk marks that occur while playing
works well for me
i vacuum for general maintenance
 
Pretty much a waste of money. I have one too and it does remove some chalk dust but that's about it.

Thats because it's not a vacuum cleaner, or a wet cloth cleaner, it's purpose is to clean up the chalk dust build up before it gets ground into the cloth. It works with static electricity and works quite well for its intended purpose. If anyone wants to know what it WASN'T designed to do, all they have to do is read the list of complainants of the things it wouldn't do by those not happy with it.
 
I've used one for 3-4 years. I can clean my table in 2-3 minutes and do-so regularly between thorough cleanings.
 
I've got one. Used it twice in a year. Still have the original box as well.
If anyone wants it for $40 PM me. I probably won't look at this thread again.
