Since you asked

I put Rich R and NYC cue dude on my ignore list.
Some posters have asked' "What's he done over the last 10 or 12 years?"
Nothing great but here's what:
Wrote a book.
Created and hosts the Bank Pool ring game and co-hosts the One Pocket and Bank Pool HOF dinner at the DCC every year.
Writes for Inside Pool magazine
Took four 10,000 mile plus tours doing Exhibitions and seminars
Played four $10,000 sets, won two and lost two
Played in two ring games that each had a $2,000 entry fee and starred world class players
Promoted three good sized tournaments, one on the gulf coast, another at the Sheraton hotel here and a senior event in Naples Beach,Fl
I thought this was a fair question so I responded as best I could. Oh, probably most importantly, I raised my two kids with no entitlements.

My room was one of the rooms that Grady Traveled too. Grady was very gracious in coming this far North, especially when you consider that my room was way off the beaten path. Best dam time I have had to date as a room owner, and I have had a number of Pro's stop in. This event happened a little more than two years ago and my customers are still talking Grady's Visit and asking when he is coming back.

Here are some photo's of an Exhibition between Grady and famous local player ( Harry Platis ) in my room during Grady's Seminar.

I would recommend Grady's seminars to any room own!!!

This post wasn't meant to try to get an invitation. It was just to answer about what I've been doing the last 10 or so years.Look, if any promoter doesn't consider it an honor to have Grady Mathews in his field, it's his loss, not mine.
If I were proffered an invite for next year, I'd practice every day and I'm pretty sure I could play straight pool near the championship level. I do have some pride, you know.
Interesting that selftaut enjoyed meeting Sisero so much in 1992. In 1995, I paid his entry fee, his travel and his room for him to come play in my $25,000 added Maine Event 14.1 championship. He passed shortly after that and I must say, his presence added a lot of class to my event.
Please allow me to add a couple of things I've done over recent years:
1. I finished 7th out of more than 400 players in the Bank Pool at the DCC. I defeated Truman Hogue, Ike Runnels and John Brumback, among others, a pretty good trifecta if you ask me. Banks was never my best game.
2. We opened a family pool room, with 22 tables.
3. Since I quit smoking, I try to run a few miles every day. I aint fast but it helps me stay healthy.

Roy, baby, you have to go on the ignore, too. Bye

why would you put Roy on ignore for giving his opinion on things? Roy is one if the best posters on here and contributes DAILY to the forum. He is also very involved in and competent to all of the happenings in the pool world. To put him on ignore is extremely one sided and childish, imo.

So it's ok for you to come on here and give your opinion on stuff, but if others voice an opinion differing from yours then they go on ignore, lol. Makes sense.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander... Maybe Grady got on an ignore list and that is the reason for the no invite. I don't think anyone here to date had malice intent. IMO, they are stating the facts or personal opinions. I think all 3 on the ignore list are good posters.

Lots of great things, Grady, but in my opinion it still isn't enough to qualify to get an invite to the World 14-1 Championship.

To get an invite you have to play pool on the highest level, and be damn good at it. You have done so, but do you today?

John McEnroe works as commentator and do exhibitions for a living today, even though he were one of the greatest tennis-players in the world.

Sorry Roy, but this is plain and simple BULL SHIT, in reality it is all politics, and if you do not sing the party song no matter what you skill level or abilities are you will not be invited, plain and simple!!!!!

Proffesional Pool is nothing but a very very large circle jerk, starting with the BCA and Continuing through the current Pro-tour Santioned events. I mean plain and simple what have any of these organizations really done for pool?

Grady-

Your kicking tape helped me tremendously. You've done so much for the game. You should play anywhere you want.

Dave

Thanks

Thanks for all the positive responses. Craig, you were a great host and friend. I'd love to come back sometime.
As far as the ignore feature, I think it's great. Why should I have to explain myself over and over to people who shouldn't be judging me in the first place?

I've chimed in on most every Grady thread, much like Manwon has. Always defended him, always will. But I sat this one out for a while to see how it would go. Much the same as others. MOST support Grady, some don't.

But NOBODY can argue that if he was playing, people would be watching his matches. If I had a chance to watch Grady, Allen Hopkins, Nick Varner,
Mike Sigel or somebody else from that era play 14.1 vs watching a Charlie Williams or some of the other UPA pros who recently took up 14.1, bet the house I'd be watching the older fellas.

Since we don't have a regular Senior tour in pooldom, why not let the accomplished senior players play in these annual events? It's not like they're asking for a year long exemption into every tourney. You're granting them a simple entry fee, not a house mortgage! What "pay back" or "thank you" do the modern day promoters show our great legends and champions? We could use some more Barry Berhman's. If I ever get the chance to speak with Kevin Truedou, the 1st thing I'm going to say to him is "Thank you" for taking care of those legends that he INVITED into his 2005 King of the Hill tourney.

Pool is one sport that most definitely kicks the older players to the curb.
It's a "what have you done for me lately" attitude with many of these modern day little shots trying to be big shots.

I appreciate the fact that NO MATTER WHAT ELSE HAPPENS, Grady Mathews, at the end of the day, will STILL have more World Championships in his credentials and more fans than the powers that be running the pool tournament will ever have. Refusing to grant a simple invite to a living legend.....very lame.

Who are you to say that "Roy is one if the best posters on here and contributes DAILY to the forum. " Kinda opininated , but since you brought it up what makes him one of the best?

He is also very involved in and competent to all of the happenings in the pool world.

What is he involved in?

What makes him a Competent Voice?

To sum it up what has he done for Proffesional Pool / Billiards?

I will wait for your reply, thanks in advance.

I realize it's hard for some of us to accept the fact that at some point the time comes for the changing of the guard.

Grady, you can ignore me if you want, that is your right, however, all of my posts have been respectful. I am not bashing you. I am only disagreeing with you.

I am only asking why you think you should be invited to a straight pool world championship tournament. The list above doesn't show one connection to straight pool. Your list of titles in the other thread show no connection to straight pool in over 20 years. I fail to see why you think you should be invited.

Let me add, if we were talking about a world one pocket championship, I would be in your corner fighting for your invitation. Unfortunately, we are discussing straight pool, not one pocket.
It has been less than 15 years ago when Grady put on the World 14.1 Championship in Las Vegas.

Thanks for the ignore

Roy even had the nerve, after telling me multiple times that I didn't merit an invitation, would I please put everything I had to say in a single post?
I like and respect many of the posters here. I love to tell stories about pooldom's greatest. But I'm just not going to be unfairly picked on.
Now to Rich R. Nothing I said could convince him that I'm an intelligent, hardworking pool player. I mean, he said some really nasty things about me. He just had to go to the ignore site.
Finally, to NYC cue dude. This guy is a real piece of work. He's the reason I didn't get invited the first year the tourament was held. So I really gave it to him on the internet and embarrassed so much with logic and truth that he sent me PMs begging me to stop. So we struck a deal, part of of which called for him to help me with my room's first One Pocket event , to the tune of $2,000. Naturally, he broke his word but I never said anything. But now this vermin has resurfaced. Why me, I ask myself? Anyway, thank God for the ignore feature.

I totally agree, but that doesn't mean that bending over and grabbing your ankles should ever be acceptable and this a regular occurrence that results from the Politics of Professional Pool in this country. This is why if Professional Pool in America doesn't collectively pull it's head out of it's ass there isn't going to be a Pro-tour in the not too distant future. So long as Non-Players have the ability to make decisions that involve invitations to events and Hall of Fame requirements and other such matters Politics will always loom larger than what is right or wrong.

I put Rich R and NYC cue dude on my ignore list.

grady,
Rich R is not a bum. Rich R is a respectable Public servant. Rich R is a gentleman. I have known Rich R thru the internet for nearly 10 years. He does not have ill will.I hope that you will erase your negative feelings towards Rich R from your mind. Grady, you have to understand that lots of pool players like you as a person and as a pool player. some of us are advising you to spend your golden years in peace and with happiness but not harbor any anger, resentment.you heard about forgiveness, right? cheers

I tried putting my wife on ignore once but it got me in trouble.

If I could only figure out what button to push to put the voices in my head on ignore.

Rich R is not a bum.

Now that we are talking about respect where did Grady say that Rich R was a bum???? I went back and read the entire thread and I could not find it anywhere, so lets make it clear putting some one on ignore means you do not care to listen to what that person says any longer for whatever reason. In no way putting some one ignore means your calling them a Bum or any other such name.

I don't know if you used the words above to stir the pot or not but those words were never said by anyone except you!!!!!!;)
