Since you asked

I didn't say I want a spot. Someone else said they would bet on it if Grady gets 160. I already said I'd bet it even well before seeing or responding to the post about Grady "needing" a spot from Jasmin.

I am a huge Jasmin fan and you already know I feel that the top women are capable of taking down the top men in any given race.

In a race to 500 though I don't think Jasmin can get there against Grady. That is IF Grady is in shape. If he is flailing then sure she can win. But if he is in 100 ball running mode then she can't get there.

Again though this is all academic. It will never happen but if it does you can be certain that I will bet all I want to.

I've never watched one of the action report's shows but I would pay to see that one. Grady called her out saying she didn't belong in the tournament which she took third in, I don't see why this can't happen. I'd love to see it.

For the record I disagree with Grady if he did say that Jasmin doesn't belong in the event. Jasmin studies straight pool and has proven she deserves to be there.

I firmly believe that the best women and men should play side by side. Jasmin has been the European champion in 14.1 - I believe and that entitles here to a spot at the table certainly.

Now, I'd really like to know what Yu Ram Cha's qualifications are to compete in the 14.1 World Championships?

I do know some that are just as qualified as Grady and are not invited but Grady and many of those players are more qualified then some of the players in the tournament. Its not always how good you play, its who you know or how much money you got.

What a bunch of sh*t......

I skipped from page 1 to 8, what a waist of time that was.....Its way past time for the AZbilliard cage fights, sh8t talkers from behind their key boards please line up now. Where the hell is ross anyway....

On topic, I think. Theres no reason Grady couldnt get a invite out of respect but theres no reason he should be the only one if that was going to be the case. They could have a masters tourney, that might draw some extra attention to the tourney........The above comments are assuming he has no real chance of winning the thing, if hes playing good then let the man in the door....

I don't want to change up the initial thoughts of this thread but I must concur with JB, and I'll keep it brief.

There were other threads late last week that discussed both "Pool as a sport" and "Men and Women in the same Tournament."

To me, this is a sport, and in what other sport can men and women truly compete at the same level. This game knows virtually no age, and definately no gender. You don't have to be faster or stronger. Nor do you need to hit harder or jump higher.

When Loree Jon's last name was Oganowski she was drillling men and women alike.

I said I'd keep it brief, so my rant has to end here. :D

Gosh dang it Newton, don't you have a Cod head to nibble on, you Norwegians !!!!!:D

Very contributing and respectful post which brings a lot of valuable info to this thread.
If it was a tasteless joke; I eat Cod, you eat fat Burger and Coke which I guess is a ton more healthier :bow-down: (joke)

Last post, for sure - going to spend some time in the workshop in stead :outtahere:

Correction

I didn't say Jasmin didn't belong in the tournament. I said it was pretty suspicious that she advanced with a two and three record. When the brackets are done it should be publicly or recorded and aviailable to everybody.
The NCAA basketball tournament is arguably the best sporting event in the world. They don't record how they decided to do the brackets but they do field questions from the media and explain their choices.
One year Jim Mataya and Earl Herring were selected over me.

Grady... I can't think of anyone more qualified to hold a Worlds 14:1 Championship. I sincerely wish you would step up and do it... and do it the way you believe it should be done, qualifiers and all. You have the rep and the contacts, the intellect and the experience to get'r done. I am not being facetious, not joking. It's a job you could do, that you could do well, and a job that needs doing.

Sad

It saddens me to read all of this... I agree that the matter is not in the hands of the AZ community and that the tournament director has the reigns on who is invited, who is not and I do agree with much of what has been said here. Grady Mathews is one of the greats...period. No only at one pocket (although he certainly excells at it), but as a representative of our sport (or game or what ever you want to call it...dumb survey!). I sincerely hope that Grady won't take this the wrong way however, in my opinion it does not matter how competitive Grady might be at 14-1. It does not matter that he is in a mature state in his life, nor that a woman is invited or not. I hope he and those of us who have been fortunate enough to share his company, learn from his experience, appreciate his abilities will simply say "thank you" and don't even loose a moments sleep over this whole thing. Grady's reputation speaks for itself. Grady says what he is going to do and does what he says. That's good enough for me and I wish we had alot more pros around like him.

why would you put Roy on ignore for giving his opinion on things? Roy is one if the best posters on here and contributes DAILY to the forum. He is also very involved in and competent to all of the happenings in the pool world. To put him on ignore is extremely one sided and childish, imo.

So it's ok for you to come on here and give your opinion on stuff, but if others voice an opinion differing from yours then they go on ignore, lol. Makes sense.

I found that somewhat bizarre (borderline scary) myself...

i put rich r and nyc cue dude on my ignore list.
Some posters have asked' "what's he done over the last 10 or 12 years?"
nothing great but here's what:
Wrote a book.
Created and hosts the bank pool ring game and co-hosts the one pocket and bank pool hof dinner at the dcc every year.
Writes for inside pool magazine
took four 10,000 mile plus tours doing exhibitions and seminars
played four $10,000 sets, won two and lost two
played in two ring games that each had a $2,000 entry fee and starred world class players
promoted three good sized tournaments, one on the gulf coast, another at the sheraton hotel here and a senior event in naples beach,fl
i thought this was a fair question so i responded as best i could. Oh, probably most importantly, i raised my two kids with no entitlements.
grady,

i am really tired of hearing about all this bullshit about you playing in the world 14.1 really.here is how it goes charlie williams is going to invite who he wants not who we want and set the brackets how he wants not a random draw.as a top player myself i couldnt disagree more and also would love to see the tourney double elimination not a round robin tourney that can be preset to favor easier advancement for selected players.however i want to play real bad so i will play in a qualifier since i havent got invited back yet like last year and i finished 3rd in a qualifier and i got the call from charlie anyways.this is what i would recommend for you to do.if it was just a pay your entry fee first come first serve i would pay for you to play myself and ask for nothing in return.i appreciate the exhibitions you did for me as a favor in the early 90's for me at my poolroom and even though you dont play much anymore you are living legend and should be treated as such but charlie has his ways and we know of no exact format for his selection of players but i think is should be public knowledge.how about putting together a couple big tourneys yourself with the help of some others.contact me if i can help you in anyway.

Your friend,
bobby chamberlain
