King of the Hill Champion - $200,000
2nd Place - $100,000
3rd Place - $ 70,000
4th Place - $ 60,000
5th Place - $ 50,000
6th Place - $ 40,000
7th Place - $ 30,000
So the difference between a 30K pay day and a 50K pay day could be the GLI? That is unimaginable pressure!

To be honest, I think any of the 6 are capable of getting to the finals. You have to figure the 3 favored are Django, Efren, and Manalo, but it could be any of the 6. If someone gets a few more roles than the others and is also hitting them good, it could be anyone.

Real hard to bet against the guy who has not been beaten yet though. Look at his break and run stats.

I thought the Hall of Fame round losers were guaranteed $30,000.....Was it $20,000 instead?

Prior to the event, I predicted that Archer, Hohmann, or Immonen would win this. Well, it sure won't be Hohmann, but I'm still predicting that either Archer or Immonen beats Sigel to win the event.

Efren, Bustamante, and Manalo still in there with seven left. Looks like the Fillipino domination of the US open was no fluke, even though on that occasion it was Pagulayan, Parica and Bustmante who were dishing out the punishment. The Fillipinos are, very simply, on fire!

You are correct. Non-hall-of-famers eliminated in Round 3 got $20,000, but Hall-of-Famers eliminated in Round 3 got $30,000.

Six of the final 7 players left

Marlon Malano
Nick Varner

Mika Immonen
Efren Reyes (via GLI)

Francisco Bustamante
Johnny Archer

Manalo

EVery player left is playing hot. Reyes was in easy danger of not making into the next round and started off 1-2. But he must turned it around.

Varner is playing the best 8-ball, as we know it. His age isn't showing. His patterns are perfect, exactly what one would expect from the Great Nick Varner, one of the all-time greatest 8-ball players. Of the small number of matches I saw, and bearing in mind that you can't watch every shot of every match, I saw Varner play a safety. One. And he didn't need to play it.

Manalo, my pick from the beginning, is making less mistakes on the equipment than anyone I've seen, although his patterns aren't "correct." He's moving the cueball where he needs to, and opting to play for difficult shots on the 8-ball. I think he can do whatever he wants, meaning it seems he has more options that are reasonable, but he doesn't go what seems to be the correct route. I also only saw him play one safety... and it wasn't a great one. This was one of his two shooting mistakes against Butera. I think he scratched on the break twice.

I have more thoughts, but I'll post separately.

pressure mounts?

I have thought all along that pressure would come into play auite a bit through the week. It seems as though maybe it has.
For some players pressure is a Demon, while others seem to need it. Just one of those unexplainable factors that comes with competition.
Now, I like either Archer or Busta. These two have been there and seem to deal with that and the DISTRACTIONS that are coming. Manolo is seemingly rolling right along, I could see him getting pretty distracted here. As someone pointed out while ago, Efrens break seems a bit soft and that has been a problem for him historicly.
I think the most pressure is on Mike now. It is his to lose and he is very aware ot it. They keep saying he is practicing well, but that is negated when the BELL rings.
These guys already have a good payday coming, so, maybe the pressure is off everyone except Mike.
Who knows? This is the fun part of the whole thing now.

Mike practicing well

Mike was in the practice room, and BEFORE the break, he would call what ball he was going to make, make it, then call every ball from the break and what pocket he was going to make it in. He broke and ran EIGHT racks in a row that way. I don't know what he is going to do in the tournament, but I think he is playing flawless in practice!

BTW, my money is still on Manalo. lol.

From what I understood.

From what I understood, all of the HOF'ers were given a 30K appearance fee for entering the tournament, so their payday is actually 50K

Who the Heck knows? Just a lot of babbling on my part and 2nd guessing. That has always been the fun part to me. I'm not cheering against any of them. Have fun and thanks for the updates!

If Alex Pagulayan participated in this event, would anyone guess that he wouldn't have made it in the final 6? This almost looks like the semi-finals of last year's WPA 8ball competition, where Alex, Efren, Django, and Marlon made the final four (Efren beat Django in the semis and Manalo in the finals). I still think Efren will find a way to come out on top.

wait a sec.

Book it.

He will go 4-1 and only lose to Django although it wouldn't surprise me if he went undefeated

If he goes 4-1 with a loss to Efren, and Efren beats everyone else or even loses one to say bustamante, then it will be Efren not Marlon in the finals.
Plus if Manalo is nervous about playing anyone, it's Efren or Bustamante, who he's not played yet in this competition.

Alex would be in it, alright. And it's a great shame that he isn't participating.

No, losers of that round get $30,000 if they are HOFers, $20K otherwise. The next round gets $40,000.

Somehow, when there's a lot of money involved, Efren Reyes almost always manages to pull it off.

Mike Siegel and Efren Reyes in the finals!
And rightfully so! Wow! Efren did it again!
