Skip & Jan's Billiards is getting all the 9ft's rebuilt.

I will have to stop by and check the new tables out.........like lenny said at the beginning of the postthe tables have been in bad repair for a long time. And I stopped going there ever since my last visit...........it was kinda crazy.


I was there 3 years ago when the feds raided the place for being a gambling front. They held evone in the room for 3 hours while they sorted thing out. It kinda sucked......it made me late to pick my kids up.........

Obviously they have new ownership......I hope.

In case anyone's wondering, Bob works in financing, and if you're looking to purchase a Diamond pool table....he can do commercial as well as residential financing of pool tables...or other financing as well....you're speaking to the "Bank" right here...directly;)

This is what a GC3 looks like with Satin Black powder coated pocket castings, only on this table the corner pockets were set at 4 1/4" and set up with a Diamond 3 piece 30mm thick slate with deep shelves. This is the kind of look I'd like to see with the 5 GC3's at Skip & Jan's when all the 9fts are finished.

If you didn't loose that last game....you heard Mark...no one leaves until he wins a game against you...it's a good thing he won when he did...or I might be late getting to the studio in New Hampshire to make the DVDs for Simonis's cloth installation instructions:grin:

Well, working on my last table here in AZ...Steve Glenn's 9ft Diamond Professional...calibrating the rails, recovery...with Zach & Gordon...then they're checked off as Professional Table Mechanic's...certified by Realkingcobra:grin:...then I'm out of here tomorrow...off to TX to drop 3 Valley bar box tables to the Houston school system....then Diamond's factory...then to the recording studio in New Hampshire to make some DVDs...have to be there on the 4th of Nov, after that...it's time for Diamond's 9ft Billiards table to come out:grin:...then back to WA, OR to deliver some pool tables before Christmas...then...maybe I'll take a week off or so....but, maybe not too...I don't know yet...all depends on how I feel at that time:grin:

That was a late night, but I would say the final product turned out real nice! Here is a quick before and after shot, see if you can all tell the difference! HAHAHA

LOL...I have scars on the back of my hand from those "before" staples......the good news is I think I can get about a $30 refund at the scrap metal yard from all those staples:wink:

I really can't believe how good this table came out...

This table is the absolute nuts now....I asked for 4 1/2" pockets and all 4 corner pockets came out a "perfect" 4 1/2".....I had never seen such clean pocket facings and crisp edges until last night...(er well this morning) ...and I can now hit a ball with firm speed into the side pocket from an angle without the OB flying off the table from the pocket facing....not to mention that every rail now has the exact same perfect rebound speed....there is nothing like "calibrated" GC2 rails.

It was a treat getting to watch Zach and Gordon go at this table.....It appears that they are getting so good at fixing broken down tables that they have demoted "Strong Arm Glen" to tool fetcher....:wink:

They even fixed some things that prior "mechanics" were unable to fix....on of them Glen fixed in about 30 seconds.

Skip and Jan customers are in for a real treat when Zach gets done with those tables....I expect they will all play just like my table...."perfect"

Big thanks to RKC (Glen) for teaching Zach and Gordon....for without him I would probably have to live with those staples for many more years..:yikes:

Good to hear your table is done. I bet you feel like a kid on Christmas! I hope many of the rooms start getting the tables done like this, I know its not cheap but some rooms with players really appreciate good equipment. The last thing you want is funky pockets spitting out balls or the table rolling off when your playing some slow roll shots especially in one pocket.

Kudos to Glen for passing on his knowledge and improving the game in AZ. I do plan on stopping by Skip and Jans when more tables are done because its 5 minutes away from me and I do get the itch late at night to play and do not feel to drive a 40 minute round trip for an hour or 2 of practice. :smile:

I think one room in the Phoenix area is enough to draw all the players to, with perfect tables in it, great food...and sweeeeeeeeet table time pricing:grin:

When Zach runs out of home owners wanting to get their tables fixed up...and if he ever gets caught up with the retirement centers with pool tables....then he might look into doing some other rooms in the area...Dave Clayton does most of them anyway....right?:grin:

I do not think one room is enough Glen, too many areas that people stick to that are close to home (5-10 miles). I know on the west side people play at Metro, Stingers and Bullshooters and we rarely see them on the East side besides occasional large tournaments. I only make the trip to the West side to play every few months (more like 6 months :) ) because its about a 30 minute drive or more.

The East side is Kolby's, Main St. and Skip & Jans but the West side has them all near one another and the Skips is about 15 minutes away from Kolby's and Main St.. People who go to Kolbys and Main St. most likely will not make the trip unless they live close by like me. I actually most players are kind of loyal to each room or just comfortable there and feel the playing conditions good or bad are acceptable.

I am interested in seeing how this business move works because the great equipment does cater to pool players and tournaments. I am not sure the pool players are the bread and butter, usually its the hacks who like to drink and blow money who do not know the difference between a Diamond and a Gold Crown. If the move does work perhaps other rooms will be motivated to improve playing conditions for players.

As for Dave Clayton, he was really the only game in town for most people looking to get tables done I believe and has the best reputation but from the work I have seen its sad really. I am interested in seeing what he messed up on the Diamond at Kolby's because he had some trouble with it and I heard something about a drill being used. :eek:
 
Actually I read through too fast Glen and saw its $10 an hour regardless of how many players are on, that is not a bad deal at all. Its actually comparable to other rooms in the area who charge per person and if you got 3 or more its a better deal. I will come hungry and thirsty for my practice sessions. :grin:

Where have you ever played that when you went up to pay the table time...you paid it with your bar/food tab:grin:...I mean really...drink 5 pops in an hour...and your hour of pool is free....come on:grin:...but if all a person wants to do is drink water and play pool...then it's the water that becomes $10.00 per hour...not the table time...LOL
 
Well, Zach went and picked up the rails off the second Diamond getting rebuilt, so Monday or Tuesday everyone will have a second rebuilt table to play on:grin: that should take some of that waiting list off the first table he rebuilt:grin: as a reminder, same $10.00 per hour per table regardless of the amount of players playing applies to the tables that have been rebuilt...food and drinks come off the table time bill...spend some, save some:grin::grin:

Well as soon as Zack can free up there will be one more GCII that will be set up in AZ. Just waiting on the call :)

I think Zach is going to be taking back the rails on the second table rebuilt tonight, getting it finished up, then picking up the rails off two more Diamonds to get them rebuilt this coming week as well. They may be back in the room by Wed or so, that'll bring it up to 4 tour blue, rebuilt Diamonds...then more people will get a chance to play on them. Skip & Jan's kind of reminds me of when I was rebuilding the Gold Crowns at Malarkeys Pool & Brew up in Tacoma, WA...which having talked to Clark lately...are now full all the time...but he still needs 3 more Gold Crowns rebuilt to fill out the room...only so much time in a year...I swear:grin:

I saw pics of the work there and it shows your craftsmanship for sure, truly beautiful work. I will be sanding down the table and repainting it black like it was, Ordered the ball return box, lower trims pieces and new ball return rubber from Ken @ classic. So it will have all the pieces that it came with originally, I was told it is a GCII but from everything I have learned from yours and others posts I believe it is a GCI or GC1 1/2 .
I will have Zach do the redo the rails and setup and cover it with the 860 HR in green and we should be all good to go.
