Slow play

I don’t play league for that reason. It’s slow. I loose my momentum. It’s more about drinking beer than pool.
And talking and playing with their phone. Its a social outing for most and that's cool. I played it a while and got to where i actually hated league nite.

Slow play on the part doesn't really bother me. Slow play on a live stream causes me to stop watching.

Slow is one of the biggest reasons the mainstream public gets bored to death watching it for the first and last time. Pool will never become more than it is now. New young promoters are needed to speed the game up a lot. You get 30 sec and no more. Anyone that can't figure a shot out in 30 sec needs to play some other game, like chess. Johnnyt

Utter nonsense.

Utter nonsense.

I agree. The public will not embrace pool even with a shot clock. Slow players only annoy the hard core pool lovers.

This is why they serve absolutely no purpose and should be rounded up and shipped out on boxcars.

Wrong. The ones that slow plays bore are the new first time viewers, and most won't be back. Johnnyt

I have very slow player on my team. He will literally stand in one spot staring at the table for 5 minutes. I probably get more frustrated than his opponent. No idea of official rules. I usually can’t take it any longer and say something. It’s just not fair to anyone

10 mins/game....I'd hit myself in the mouth with a hammer.

It's pretty common for a rack of bar table 8 ball to take longer than 10 minutes. Sometimes there are bad clusters and the innings go way up. It really has nothing to do with either player playing slowly. It has to do with the circumstances of that particular rack, and both players desire not to sell out.

That said it's just as common for a game of bar table 8 ball to take 3 minutes or less with a wide open layout. That variability in games is one of the things I like about 8 ball bar box.

Pool players I swear will complain about absolutely any damn thing

Played with a guy who couldn't be bothered to wipe the salt off his beer,
Which it wasn't even on his, was half his and half mine, the same way yet been telling the girl to do it for months
"I just want to hurry up and play pool"

APA has "time guidelines":
  • Average Shot = 20 seconds
  • Special Shooting Situation = 45 seconds (maximum)

Unfortunately, these are only guidelines and there's no clear distinction between average and special shots.

I have a player on my team that at times can be a very slow player. We were playing a team and one of the players on the other team we were playing blew up and made a fuss of his slow play. He was playing fairly slow that night, but he also ran 3 of his 4 tables so I feel it was justified.

I can sit and watch a guy play and stare at the table all night for all I care. I just hope to get a turn back on the table.

Does slow play get under your skin?

I don't think there is any such thing as "slow play". Slow play is another's excuse for losing.

Its either a move or the player has no idea what they are doing. And AZ is filled with players that don't what they are doing.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why somebody wants to sit all night watching terrible players play pool. Everybody comes on here saying they play 6 hrs/week league(2 nights) - no you don't! You sit and watch mostly bad play for 4 hrs or more, then play bad yourselves for 2 hrs or more. That does not equall 6hrs + of pool! Actually more like 1hr of play time if your opponent is equal.

People call it being deliberate lol. it isn't rocket science. You either drop on the shot correctly or you don't. Taking 30 strokes to pull the trigger just means you have a serious flaw in your alignment and 1,000 strokes aren't going to help you.

Yes, I hate slow play. I'm there to play pool, not sit in a chair watching terrible play.

What baffles me even more is why there is no Pro tour, with millions of league players watching terrible play 2+hrs/night, you would think they would love to watch people that can actually play, but no, not a chance. I guess it's cause they already know everything. Lmao

I will tell you how I really feel later
Jason

Surely you have watched pro’s play one pocket. That is often a slow thinking game. Only slightly slower than watching paint dry.

It bothers me sometimes in tourneys because it makes the whole event take forever.

Nothing more annoying than playing your first match at 11am, and your second at 2pm.

Other than that though, I don't care how long someone takes at the table.

I never really paid much attention to the effect of slow players much until a few years ago, when I was playing in a 3 man league with 2 slow players. Both are good and would get out most of the time. Played with them for about 2 years.

One of the slow players dropped out and we brought on another regular player and another player to sub on occasion.

I was surprised when the matches took 45 minutes to an hour less time to play when it was me, the new player and the sub shooting.

One of the hazards of tournament play - you cant always know when you are gong to play your next game. In double elimination in particular you can be back to back or can have the longest wait. Both of these can work with you or against you depending on how you are playing in the moment and on the day. Yes, it can be annoying. But thems the rubs.

"What do we want?"
"Longer races"
"What do we want?"
"Faster play"

"What do we want?"
"One Pocket"
"What do we want?"
"9ball, multi ball breaks, run 'em out, winner breaks, see him squirm in his chair"

A shout out to pool lovers:
Granted, the above are not consistently the same voice but please learn to fall back in love with the game.
