OK. If you are a smoker, do you have a cigarette hanging out of your mouth while you are playing? I am a smoker and I find this one of the most rudest, disrespectful things someone could do while at the table.

Don't know how many times I have seen ashes and burn marks on the felt because some jerkoff doesn't have the respect and common decency to put their smoke in 1 of the 500 ash trays throughout the pool room.

I know most rooms have the no smoking over the table rule, but there is a lot of places that don't enforce it and even more players that don't follow it.

You may be the biggest sweetheart in the world and a phenomenal shooter, but if you smoke at the table you are telling me you have zero class.

The PH where I shoot league even has a ashtray on each side of the bar table..attached to the table! Yet guys still insist on not using them.

I smoke while I play (like a chimney), but always use a ashtray before I get up to the table. How can you even shoot with smoke rolling up your face, nose and into your eyes?

Maybe I'm just over courteous to the owner and the equipment. Whats every ones else take on this, and why do some of you practice this terrible habit?

The only way to remedy this issue is to ban smoking in all public places, like they have in New Jersey, and soon Philly.

Then you don't need to worry about this issue at all.

And, in ten days (July 1st), the state of Colorado. (cheer!)

They have already started passing that law here in various counties.
With the exception of bars, over 18 privately owned businesses, clubs, lodges etc.

It's been Smokeless in Pool halls in CA for Years. Business hasn't changed at all.

As far as being "Rude" for having a Cig hanging out of your mouth, I just think it's LAZY. How do you keep the smoke from getting into your eyes?

I understand that Bar Boxes are in very public places "BARS", but if you smoke over a table in a pool hall, you'll likely be asked to leave is you don't stop.

I still smoke and really enjoy the smokeless atmosphere in our pool room.

Prior to the smoking ban around here one of the fastest and most effective way to get kicked out of the pool hall was to smoke over the table after the first warning. Management is very quick to jump on folks who put drinks on the rail too ... not to mention the folks who dump balls off the tray onto the table. They learn, and the equipment is better than without these enforced rules.

they should bloodywell just ban cigarettes to be honest, useless disgusting things...

anyway the worst thing though is that not to moke, and indeed drink, on the table are already rules everywhere. but half the places it's not enforced, which infuriates me.

although having said that, i know one bloke who is so ugly, and when he has his fag in his mouth has this downright hilarously funny expression when he is taking his shot - it cracks me up so much! that's the only time i forget to get anfry about what he's doing lol

I've gone up to people and told them not to smoke over tables before...as a favor to those like me that like ash free cloth...I was shooting at a place in Battle Creek last Sunday and it's pretty much a hack dump...sticky, wet glass ring marks on the rails and one table had a big ass spill mark on it...*can't wait for Billiard Cafe to reopen....

It's Called Common Courtesy

I don't understand why this is so hard for people to understand. It's like chewing with your mouth closed or not talking with your mouth full. Lifting the toilet seat and putting it back down when you're done, not because you have poor aim, it's just the right thing to do.

While I don't smoke and I think it is a dirty habit without benefit, I fully support your right to it. Delaware also has an indoor smoking ban, and some establishments make their employees wear reflective vests when they stand outside to smoke. To me this is too much like being forced to wear the Star of David or having a number tattooed on your arm. Maybe we'll have segregated living areas (ghetto's) for smokers in a couple years.

Watch out you fat fast food junkies.......You're next.

I used to run leagues out of our Eagles lodge. Would come in early every league night to clean the felt, all the wood on the table and clean up the balls. There are signs posted everywhere that say no smoking, drinks etc at the table.

Was in there late one Saturday night drinking and shooting with some friends and saw a guy sit his Budweiser can on the table. Right in the middle of the table! Asked him not to put his beer there and he got offended that I said something to him. He gives me dirty looks the rest of the night, apparently it was my fault his parents raised him without manners.
We all leave only to come in Monday to a big ass stain on the table the guy was playing on. Looked like he just poured his beer on the table.

People like that need to be drug behind a car for a couple hours.

Please guys, just quit smoking. You certainly have the right to smoke, but I beg you to consider quitting. After a few years you will look back at your former self and not even believe you once smoked.

Chris

Ps. I was as heavy a smoker as walked the face of the planet for 30 years. After my dad's death from lung cancer and numerous bouts of brochitis and bronchial ashthma, I finally mustered the strength to quit.

Even after I quit, my lungs were in sad shape for several years. I took up running and have not had a lung infection since. You'll add many quality years to your life and believe me, your family will appreciate the effort.

No I don't smoke over the table. Agree thats a terrible habit.

Have quit 38 times with hypnosis, gum, wrist snapping rubber bands, patches, pyramid hats etc etc.......

Have thot about hiring a big hairy thug 24/7 to just slap the SH-T outa me whenever I light up. Within weeks surely that would work. Maybe get dumped on a deserted island like Tom Hanks???

This didn't read to me as much of an anti smoking post as many of the reponses seem to indicate, except for the last sentence. I don't think anyone who regularly reads or posts on this forum fits into the category of people described above.

Smoking over the table, like previous posts, is as juvenille as setting a drink on the table. It's as simple as that.

Smoking is banned in all enclosed public places in Scotland but this does not stop eedjits from putting drinks on tables, I remember the week after the snooker table, in the pub I play in, got re-covered I walked in and saw a guy who played in my pool team put a pint on the cloth, I said to him to take it off the table and he responded by saying there is no ay he would spill it, I think it was 3 shots later he knocked the full pint over.

Forget banning smoking, ban inconsiderate eedjits.

I've never smoked over a table, well occaisonally.
Its ok as long as ash doesnt go on the cloth but I see players do it, tonight. Its no big deal here. Yup, people can smoke anywhere. Thats just great.
This is a thread for 'smokers' isn't it?
