Smoking in your pool room?

Can you still smoke in your pool room?

Minnesota has a very restrictive smoking ban going into effect on Monday (includes private clubs even).

For any of you smokers out there, any bad experiences with losing cues, or do you take them with you when you go outside?

I'm a chimney smoker when I shoot, and this is going to be a difficult transition for me, and may even be the death of the few "real non-sports bar" pool rooms in the area. Probably be more healthy as I won't smoke so much, especially in MN winter.

No smoking here in Louisville...no miss cues as of yet. I dont frequent the rooms where that might happen though. There are a few rooms where I wouldnt leave my cues alone to go smoke.

Our smoking ban came into effect about 2 years ago, when I was still a smoker. The halls are pretty accomodating, and most will "pause" the table time when you take a smoke break. Most people leave their cues on the table when they go outside at my main hall, but there are always many regulars around ... if it's extra busy the cues go behind the counter and get picked up on the way back in.

No smoking in Albuquerque. So far so good. I usually am playing with several folks and we don't go to smoke at the same time, so someone stays with the table and cues.

What do you do when you go to the bathroom? You could always just ask someone you know to keep an eye on it.

The Olympics will be no smoking too, I hope. I plan on being there.

Can't wait

Man I am so jealous. Pennsylvania will probably be the last state in the nation to get on board with the smoking ban.

There is a complete smoking ban here in Ohio for bars, pool halls, diners etc. It is hurting dive bars were patrons do two things for three to for hours daily. That is drink and smoke.

Question

I wonder if these states with smoking bans allow a "smoking club" or smoking establishment to be built or formed. Similar to the cigar bars that I have seen in some area's. For smokers who want their own business or own place to go this seems like it might be a good business venture.

Smokeless in Montana

Next year in Montana for sure.Although I smoked for 25 years I don't any more and I can't wait till its in effect! Don:cool:

Smoking is banned in all public buildings here in Lincoln. Some people tried to make "private clubs" but the city will always find a way to shut it down. Things like pulling the liqueur license...

Smoking anyway

 Houston smoking ban has just gone into effect. (Limited to Houston proper.) When I got to the pool room everyone was still smoking but there were no ash trays. When I went to get an ashtray I was given a wavier explaining the smoking ban and that customers were only allowed to smoke on the patio. After I signed the wavier I was given a small Styrofoam cup with a little water in the bottom and allowed to smoke where ever I liked. Server said ?customers can not be fined? and the wavier covered the pool rooms responsibility.:)

They kind of half @ssed it in Omaha. If you had a keno license before the ban you can still smoke. If you are a bar that doesn't serve food you can smoke. If you serve food and drinks and have no keno you can't smoke. They said this is all temporary and that it will be completely banned in 4 years. At least this is how I understand it all. I wish they would have just banned it all the way like Lincoln and been done with it.

Delaware is non-smoking except for private clubs like the moose lodge, american legion etc. I love it, not to offend any smokers but I can see without someone elses bad habit burning my eyes.

Az. went smokeless back in May.

Really hurting the bar owners so far. I don't mind it, even though I'm a smoker. I'm smoking less than 1/2 of what I used to.

No Smoking, Here In Sticks Billiards, Clarkesville Georgia, And It Has Not Hurt My Bussines.:) :) :) :) :)

I wish they would totally ban smoking in bars and pool rooms here. I know however that it would mess me up when I go to a city to play in a smokey enviornment. So I say if you are going to play this sport..............just deal with it!

We can smoke in the pool rooms in Jax, Florida. There is a smoking ban in effect for restaurants or any business that does more than about 30% (I think) of their revenue in food sales

I am a smoker and it is nice to be able to smoke in the pool room IMO, although despite being a smoker, I want the room to be well ventilated and Bankshot Billiards in Jax, Florida is that!

Man, I got spoiled in Maryland where it went smoke free. Now I'm in Michigan and unfortunately I choose not to shoot pool at night because of the damn smoke-really sucks.
