Wishing the best for Smorg.

As it turns out, I too am a candidate for a heart valve. I'll be seeing my cardiologist next month and will be sure to ask him about this. Anything to avoid another "zipper" on my breastbone would be a welcome relief. Thanks for posting this.

don't make this harder than it is

Folks a sincere individual e-mail is of more value than dozens of cookie cutter e-mails cut and pasted and sent in. Below are the contacts and the clinical trial number. I would just identify myself as a friend of Doug's and state that he has been of great value in my life for many years or however long is true for you. Then say that you believe that Doug would be a candidate for participation in these trials and urge that he be considered. I recommend signing your full name but that is up to each individual.

It is more important to get the e-mails out than it is to get each one out in perfect form!

(edited to add, Doug's last name is Wiley I believe. That is what John Barton said in his case post)

All the best to Smorg. Has he begun to lose weight and how much does he have to lose (1/3) if he doesn't qualify for the study that Bigtruck found as well.

Yes Approx....

The Docs told him that he had to lose @100lbs to have the traditional open heart valve replacement.

Hopefully he will be a candidate for the trial!

Ray,

Thank you for letting everyone know of Doug's situation. As many have asked, can we have guidance on the best verbage for the letter to the trial administrators to best lobby for Doug's case.

Please add me to your email list at: holly@playcsipool.com

I think Hu, aka ShootingArts, had a good point. Just a sincere request, as a friend of Doug Wiley, that he be considered for the trial.

Doug lives in Tampa,Fl and is being treated by the VA there.

Thanks!!

Agreed. I think heartfelt emails about what Doug means to us are far more likely to weigh in a candidate's favor.

Dear Ms. Edwards,

I write you regarding Mr. Doug Wiley. As a friend of Dougs for some time, I would like to sincerely ask that he be strongly considered for the trial on heart valve replacement (the Transfemoral procedure if I recall correctly).

Doug touches many, many lives and has so much life in him.

Doug is truly a living legend and I implore you to do whatever you can in your power to keep him that way. Thank you very much for your time.

Respectfully,

Matthew Todd Thompson

This isn't meant to represent the perfect thing to send, perfection isn't a requirement. Something short, sincere, and courteous is recommended. If you have the time, retyping each time so the wording isn't identical is better than cut and pasting the same message to all three people.

If you really find yourself unable to write something, feel free to use this and just plug in the proper names.

Thanks to everyone involved,
Hu

(edited to add, Todd was posting at the same time I was, his message is excellent!!)

Dear (Dr. and a full name , or Jodi's full name since the gender isn't absolutely certain.

This is another request that Doug Wiley be included as a participant in the clinical trial, NCT00530894.

Doug is a very special person who has enriched many lives for many years, including my life. At this point it seems that this trial is the only real hope for his survival. Please consider his inclusion as soon as possible.

Thank you for your consideration and assistance in this matter,
Hu (last name)

BT if I contact Jodi which I will, what exactly should I say to Jodi? Your post should get a great response. The Smorg is a big part of AZB an we should all pitch-in an do our part. This is a good thing an our entire membership should get envolved...................

agreed...we do not want to lose you smorg!!!

Excellent!

Very nice, one minor thing, I think Edwards LifeSciences is the name of the business or organization. Jodi is the contact person for the trials and the two doctors are the administrators for the trials in Miami where Doug would be.

As long is the e-mails reach where they need to go the message is loud and clear however.

Thanks to you and everyone else writing!

Hu

well if you are passing out atta-boys . . .

Nobody would even know about these clinical trials if Ray hadn't deliberately done some research seeking help for Doug. He has played a part in other things too.

Melinda(AKA Trigger) has to be remembered also. A sweetheart that has been working very hard to support and encourage Doug.

I am stopping here and with JoeyA that Ray has already mentioned but the list is far longer. All involved supporting Doug and giving him encouragement deserve praise. There are many truly outstanding people on this pool forum and when one of our best is in a bind we all come together to help.

Fellow AZers,

Doug has made a trip to the Dr. It was NOT good news. He has been told that he will not likely be able to have the much needed surgery for his heart valve.:(

Smorg has been THE most respected poster here for a very long time! He has been a real trooper while battling this condition, making us laugh often while hurting so much himself.

There is a clinical study that, if successful and approved by the FDA, will allow people in Doug's condition to get their valves replaced without having to overcome major obstacles like losing 1/3 of their total weight.

Doug seems to be an excellent candidate to be accepted into this trial. I am starting a campaign to get Doug accepted. If anyone would like to send an e-mail to the administrator of the trial, I am including the link below. It shows how the procedure works and has a link to the clinical study.

Click here to see how the procedure works! NOT GRAPHIC

I will be speaking to the clinical administrator today to see what we can do to get Doug considered!

****JoeyA is making sure Doug & Barbara get this info too!!

Thanks to everyone that can help!!

Sincerely,

Ray

I will be glad to send an e-mail but I don't know Doug's last name.

Doug is one of the best and we all appreciate what he has done for us. He is worth everything we can do to help. It's that simple.
