Over fifty years removed from those frigid Ohio winters. Don't miss it either. Ten days at DCC was all the reminder I ever needed how much disdain I had for it.
It's to easy ;).... for a Southern Cal man to say such an obvious statement :).... some of his best times in yrs gone by were in warm pool rooms, for days, in the dead of winter.... with the Sweaters & Short stops (Omaha Fats )... getting free heat looking for a $2 game and a cheap hot dog.

Greetings Everyone from the Snow Hole in Central Montana ha ha 22 above zero with a high around 44 above with a 18 mph breeze and a seniors league pool tournament starting in a few hours where I'll attempt to defend my title as the past winner .

We had some below zero temps and wind , during it I was starting to get homesick for Northeastern Montana where we had temps around - 50 or colder .

As a kid I was a speed skater.
One winter we went to an outdoor speedskating competition in Oconomowoc WI big lake thick ice year
It was 1960, at night 7pm wind blowing 20-25 mph. No leaves on the trees, dead of winter, I'm about 12 yr old.
No one in the 18 and over group... wanted to lead the pack that night, Frikin' cold.
They didn't make uniforms back then to shed wind.
Back then, wore long underwear and wool tights (air went right thru em). Team uniforms.
The Senior division had a long grinder type race probably 3 miles minimum maybe 5.
They are probably averaging 20 mph in speed doing ''laps''.
Floyd Bedbury was his name, not sure the last name spelling is correct, but his eye balls froze, he quit, his eyes did recover in time.

Island Drive , In Butte Mt there was a high altitude training facility for speed skating then a summer ski run for our Olympic down hill ski team to practice on the Beartooth Pass near Red Lodge .

I was ok at best on ski's but even in my youth I doubt I'd of given skiing up there a shot ha ha !

It was a fun tournament , my partner and I did well and went through the winners bracket undefeated , the forever and a day wait got us , and we ended up winning 2 nd place or the first looters some may say .
But it was fun and I left with more money than I got there with so that's a win in my book !

Yep, burrrrrrr.
In the burbs of Chicago 50's there was this Catholic all male school that built thee best toboggan run I've ever seen/did.
On a nice 20 degree hill they cut down between the trees a 3' gully that ran about 150feet straight down to flat grass and over a frozen mud creek.
It had a stop/catch plate at the top to get on and load up.
Then let er rip....
You could get a 6 man toboggan really rolling with it full of kids probably, 50-60 mph also, they had built in wooden walk ups steps to do it a again, Us kids thought it was a weird school, only boys/no girls, and they could lie and be rebooted on Sundays.

Yep last night had a cold one on the table, couple of deer in the back yard playing in the snow, cotton bowl on the tube and gold crown racked for some 9 ball. Life is good with two Midwest teams in the final game on January 20th!
