So many "A" Players in streaming chatrooms

Props to you johnnyt!

Sometimes I think the pros are out of their minds for choosing certain shots or strategies, but who am I to question how they want to set up their runout? There's a reason they're PROS after all.

"They" Are Everywhere

Did you ever notice how many "A" players are in the streaming chatrooms (mostly the free ones)?
It really gets old watching them tell the rest of the chatroom how he or she pro should play the shot. After a miss it's, he or she dogged it, he/she never should have shot that shot like that, play safe, go 3-rails, and on and on and on. Funny how the ones their telling how to shoot are playing in big tournaments and are pros. Meanwhile these "chatroom pros" are in a streaming chatroom for 8 or more hours a day and night, not out playing pool. How do they get to be an "A" players sitting in the chatrooms all day and night?

OK, I'm done. Johnnyt

Its not just pool, its everything. People think they are as good as the best out there, and behind a computer they don't have to prove otherwise.

Just go to a dating site, pick someone who says they are fit, attractive, and smart. When you meet em, see what you get.

I may suck at pool, but I am fit and attractive (notice I didn't go near - smart)!! :D

LOL, Sorry if its ever been me. Whenever i'm in the booth I usually try and let Ken or Fred deal with more of the technical aspects of the game. I just enjoy interacting with the fans like me in the chat room. You know that old saying, those who can do, those who cant teach, and those who can do or teach commentate, lol.

I've never missed a ball or made a mistake, from the seat I'm sitting in. Somehow, when I come out of my chair, all that changes. Perhaps I need to strap a chair to my ass.
I have had a few opponents strap my chair to my ass for me and it didn't work out in my best interest. It is hard to size up what is the best shot for someone else in most cases where the choice is judged the player is in a difficult position, I cut balls better then I bank them so I may attempt a cut in a situation and someone that is a strong bank shooter would bank the ball. Everyone has different strengths and weakness so what is a higher percentage or is a better shot can have many factors, and I agree with most of the other guys the perspective at the table may be much different then any other perspective.

You never know

I thought about if I should post this or not and decided I would. My friend called me and said he was watching the matches on Thurs. night.
Jennifer Baretta was in the booth with Kelly Fisher. A question was asked to Kelly who taught her to play 9 ball. She gave the instructors name, location, and said he taught her and Val Finnie.
Sat night I go in and watch a few matches. I am watching the pool and a little of the chat. The people in chat seemed respectful. Some were making small wages, others small talk and a few were actually talking about the match. Overall they were having fun. The people talking about the match were doing what any other pool player does,,,,discuss pool. Whether they were right or wrong it's what we do as players. It's part of how we learn. I saw people call a shot and the player do something else. The person that called the shot said... oops I stand corrected, he or she has just learned something. What is wrong with that?

I agree with Neil, there could be more discussing the match at hand. So what if someone on a screen has an opinion on what to do,,they may be right and someone could learn from that. This is stuff you couldn't find 20,30,40,50 years ago.Take advantage of it.
As far as the caliber of the players skill or knowledge in chat means little.
The reason I say this is most are anonymous including myself. We have little or no idea who is who, and who cares.

I feel if I were to voice my opinion on anything I see during a match right or wrong I may learn from it. The commentators do it all the time, and many of them are pros, men and women.
I have read thru this thread and many here have made very good and valid points,
The reason I sat to watch some of the matches on Sat night was so I could see how Kelly and Val were doing.

They were both my students for quite sometime.
4,5,6 hours a day,,,everyday,,sundays off..,,I love both of them

Signed,,,,,,She should have banked it and gone for the win

The only difference to me is the pros kick to make balls or for leaves not just to hit the ball. If who ever hit just 1" more toward the pocket there was a good chance of making the ball in the corner.

I am definitely not kicking just you hit the ball. I play the %.

Let's say you get 30 tries on this. The way the pro tried might pocket the ball 3 times. 27 times she will either leave a shot/chance of a good safety in return/ball in hand.

My shot will perhaps pocket a ball 1 or 2 times (high & low right corner pocket), leave a shot/ball in hand/chance of a good safety in return 15 times but end up safe maybe 13 times because of all the balls in the direction the 1 ball will go.

I like the % of my shot. I think around 50 % of the times I execute it I will either pocket a ball or leave a difficult table to the opponent. That's not bad for a kick.

Yes, I am only guessing about the %, but you get the idea. If you don't, let's play.

Sounds to me like roy wants to play all of us?

Perhaps I will. I would atleast play the pro that played that kickshot. (Think it was Val Finnie)

IMO if both routes are available to me I would select Roys option. The choice selected by the player not only does it have a chance to leave a shot but it has a high degree of danger in respect to the cue ball scratching. There appears to be a few ways for that to happen.

You're are correct that Roys choice has to be hit firmer but I would rather take my chances with that. The only other draw back with Roys choice is that the one ball would most likely be positioned into the area of the nine ball.

In reference to the chat room, thats what it was intended to be. A chat room. We have the option to turn it off or block it out.

Thank you.

Looks to me like your option has A HIGH % of not hitting a rail after contact.
BTW-I just watch full screen without the chat 80% of the time-same with online poker.

It is a different kind of shot, and needs to be hit a little firmer than the other one. It is actually a very easy shot to execute, and because the ball is so close to the third rail it becomes a big target too. Try it.

and you can usually go full screen with the match if you want to. Mostly people just like to 'chat' about what they see and hear other's views on it.
That's how we learn.... we discuss things. Others may just be trying to inflate egos.... but who cares about them.

I KNOW one thing though.... the view from the screen is vastly different from the one AT the table. Trying to get my mindset to be the same in both situations is my journey in the game, and the fun for me. JMO

tap-tap-tap! Really tho...in the chatroom, folks are just having fun...nothing typed there should be taken seriously. Pool isn't life and death, so why should it be treated that way? I love watching players better than me, try to emulate some of their moves...

But really, as long as it's not spam, racism, or just plain insulting...why not have FUN???

I think my buddy the Saw put it best when we were talking the other night at the pool hall. He said that the TAR chat room is the closest thing you'll find to a real pool hall, or atleast how they used to be and should be. You see shit talking, woofing, jokes, smart ass comments and everything else that we love to hear in a good room. Taking anything too seriously in the rooms is ridiculous, sit back, calm down and enjoy the show.

And you might be an A player or even an A+ if you didn't spend soo much time in these chat rooms and on AZ Billiards forum, and spent more time practicing!!!!

BTW, I agree with 99.9% of your posts.

Before anyone says anything, I know I'm just an "B" player ("B+" on a good day) but you'll never hear me trying to tell everyone in the chat how a pro should or should have played a shot. I might say "ouch" when someone misses a very makeable shot, or hit a bad shot, but that's it. OK, I feel better now. Johnnyt

Chat on if ya want to...

I find the chat a total distraction from my watching/studying the play on the stream, although it can be entertaining sometimes! I just maximize the video hit the "mute" and enjoy the show.......

I'm retired. I practice about five hours a day now. I'm 68 years old. I think my "A" days might be over.:embarrassed2: Johnnyt
