So This Happened Today...

I had my Connelly pool table for sale and the two "gentlemen" came last night to pick it up. The table was purchased for $1700.00 and they came with cash last night. Today I go to the bank to deposit the money and 10 of the $100.00 were fake!!! The rest was a combination of 10's and 20's. I have never been so pissed at someone else and myself at the same time. The bills looked and felt normal while I counted them but the when the bank teller put them through the counting machine they kept stopping. She confiscated and marked the bills and I had to file a report to the treasury department. I then had to fill out a police report giving them the contact information I had. The bills all had the same serial number and were from 1996 so they looked much different than the current batch. I can't believe at a glance I couldn't tell the difference but I feel like a ****ing fool today.:(

Here are a couple of them after she marked them with today's date. They all had the same serial number on them.

The best test for $100 bills is not the pen that you see used in many stores. Just hold the bill up to the light and see if you see Franklin's holographic image. I bet you won't see that in the counterfeit bills! That is the hardest thing for a counterfeiter to duplicate and so far only the Russians and Chinese have been able to do it. Not very comforting is it.

By the way, the Chinese have made such good counterfeit hundreds, that they are allowed to circulate in Macau. They are almost undetectable. Only an expert can spot one, like someone from our Secret Service. We are aware of these bills but we are not doing anything to stop or control them. The best guess is there are a few hundred million dollars in circulation currently.

I was paid out with a counterfeit $100 from the Hard Rock casino in Vegas. They denied it.

That sucks man. Had something similar happen to a friend...dude contacted my friend on C-list with a burner phone and fake yahoo email, bought a Bow and Guitar for a couple grand. Buddy said he never noticed anything funny about the bills as he was counting them out...

I hope you find justice soon.....Nothing sorrier than a man who steals...

Whats the status of the pool table? Do you know how to get in contact with the people that "bought" it from you?

Dang! Sure hope they catch these guys. Nothing worse than a thief.

About 20 years ago, I was playing poker at The Mirage. Took a break to hit the head, and there was a guy in there trying to sell a $100 bill for $20. Nothing suspicious about that. :rotflmao:

I don't recall if the old bills had that or not?

I texted them back today saying I found an extra set of balls they can have for free if they want and the text message came back in spanish saying something along the lines of I don't know what you're talking about I just got this number today, which is bullshit.

Not really sure what the cops can do about it.

All they have to say is they had no idea they were fake just like the OP did at the bank right?

Seems like they would need some sort of proof the people that purchased the table knew they were fake?

My brother is a police officer and he said the exact same thing. They’d have to prove they knowingly passed the bills. So ultimately it was an expensive lesson. Just shocking after all these years of buying and selling weapons I wasn’t able to catch the difference.

What a relief

Sorry for your trouble, but It's nice to know that it isn't against the law to make a purchase with counterfeit bills. Just take them out of circulation and red mark the "mark". Second time you go to cash fakes the paperwork might be different !

I would still ask the regional treasury dept. investigator, since your case might put them over the top with these two. Either way you are still owed a grand.

I own a gun store so these two had some stones, Lol. I filed the police and the treasury reports this afternoon.

I wonder with a shot gun laying over the counter pointed in there general direction, would they have said we`ll be right back, we didn`t get enough money from the mac machine this morning. Some bad @holes in this world, mess things up for the good people for sure. Sorry to hear about your bad deal. Hopefully they get caught & spend time with Bubba in the slammer.

Very sorry to hear your story, Mr H.

Thank you for sharing the tale, sir, it might save another unwary fellow from the same fate.

Best wishes,
RC.

When i sold a motorcycle on Craigslist a few years back, I ran to the corner store and asked the guy to borrow his pen. When the guy showed up with all 100s, I took my time and marked every single one of them to make sure. My buddy thought it was a waste of time, but Id rather be safe than sorry. I'm sorry about your current situation.

I appreciate the responses guys, the money isn’t a huge deal as the worst part is feeling like a sucker for letting my guard down.

May not be enough to prosecute, but probably enough to make the sale invalid and get your table back.
