So you Think you Know Billiard Movies

Stallones Ex

Brigette Neilson played a pool hustler in Italy. I had a copy on VHS ...loaned it out ...have it no more. I can't remember the name of it!

So you Think you Know Billiard Movies. Well, think again.

Check this page out. Never knew there were so many pool B movies. :)

Check out the "original" movie poster I just found (and bought) of "The Player" starring Minnesota Fats. I bet there's not many of these around. :)

That's a nice collection of billiard videos. Good snag on the poster!

I am still looking for one human being who saw the television show/movie which was a western, where the two men gambling were playing 8 ball on HORSEBACK. They would lean over from their saddle to a table whose slate must have been 6 foot high. The stakes were $10,000 in gold and a woman (as I recall).

The winning shot in the side pocket was pretty spectacular.

I was watching our black and white television set as a kid and saw this movie, although it could easily have been Gunsmoke, Paladin or some other western regular show. I can't remember any of the actors and I have yet to find one single individual who saw this episode/movie. You would think with all of the pool enthusiasts right here that someone would remember a movie where they played 8 ball on horseback. Age wise, you would at least have to know the difference between Hollerith cards and a poker cards. :)

Someone a few years ago sent me some info about a pool game on horseback but I want to say that it had something to do with the French and everybody knows Frenchmen can't play pool. :p But seriously, it wasn't the same movie.

I can still remember the horses taking like one step and stop while the actors would bend over and shoot the shot. There wasn't any spectacular play or anything that I remember except for that last shot.

If anyone ever finds the series or movie that this situation took place, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

This was probably my first witness to a pool game or a pool table. Do I hear an AMEN? :D

Oh yeah, the guy who put up the woman won. :D (Ladies, this was a long time ago) :D :D

Sing Cowboy, Sing (1981) was a German movie sorta like the old spagetti westerns. It was aimed at kids and had a scene of horsemen playing pool.

What time frame are we talking about? 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s?

60's

60's........................

there's a scene of playing pool on horseback in La muerte cruzo del Rio Bravo but that's an 80's movie too.

Super Cue Men...

I've been looking for the Pete Smith 1948 short Super Cue Men ever since I saw a still from it in Byrne's Standard Book when in High School. I tried all kinds of indie video stores and the internet -- don't think it's ever been released other than 16mm in the theaters.

Wow, I just lost a game of 8-ball last week making this exact shot but calling the 8 all the way up in the corner pocket. Doesn't look like it can go in the side at that angle, but I know it can!

Still looking for this western with the two guys playing 8 ball on horseback for a woman and $10,000 in gold.

This past week, Scotty Townsend told me it was on a Paladin episode so you know what I have been doing. Looking up EVERY episode of Richard Boone's Have Gun Will Travel and reading the description of each episode (to no avail). :(

You gotta be kidding! Relying on Scotty's memory of the sixties? :D :D :D

If it was one of the series from the sixties you have a lot of digging to do. If not Paladin, Johnny Yuma had some kind of strange episodes and might be one of the first places to look if Paladin doesn't pan out. I can't remember all of the series, seems there were a dozen or more. There were some odd old Gunsmoke episodes when it ran thirty minutes too. Some of my favorites are never shown in the hour shows so they must have been the old thirty minute ones. Even Bonanza is possible, they reached pretty far sometimes.

I have the first three seasons of Have Gun, Will Travel. I'm about halfway through them, and haven't seen that episode.

There is another "pool" movie yall might be interested in. The name of the movie is "The Hustlers". I won't go into a whole lotta detail about the "plot", but let's just say it stars a gentleman name Ron Jeremy who is well known for his one piece stick.

All in all it is an interesting movie with as good of a plot as one could expect from this movie genre and some really interesting shots (pool shots that is) from the characters. I was really impressed with camera work and the actors shot making ability.

I think the movie came out in 1993 or 1994. Savannah (god bless her beautiful soul) is on the cover of the box.

the king of snooker

theres an older asain series called the king of snooker some might be interested in.the only place i've been able to find it is on mysoju.com,but only about half of the episodes work.

Billiard Movies

I have watched the Pool Hall Junkie it is a alright movie.
Did anyopne know that the late Jackie Gleason liked to play pool?
One of his shows was about him playing a game with another person.
It was really interesting to watch

Man, it could have been the Twenty Mule Team (Death Valley Days) for all I know. I think I was about 16 years old at the time and as I recall, it was in black and white. I don't remember a movie star like John Wayne or anyone like that.

What really bothers me is that NO ONE else remembers seeing this movie.

BTW,
It WAS NOT the French Movie with the players playing pool from the back of horses.

I bet I've googled 10 hours looking for this movie. It bothers me that I will never find out what series this game was on. My wife watches ALL of the cowboy movies on the Western Channel has never seen such a sight.

we have that in common

Joey,

Your wife and I have watching the western channel in common, I'm watching Robert Mitchum and George Kennedy in an old western right now. I watch almost everything that comes on there. If it was one of the movies still in circulation I'd almost certainly know about it. I have been watching the westerns all of my life and can't recall them playing eight ball from horseback. Ain't to say I haven't seen it and forgotten it, but it hasn't been anytime in many a moon.
