Solution to Supporting Pro Pool

Name ONE Lenny !

The two gentleman who started the APA for starters. Allen Hopkins seems like a smart guy and what about Mike Sigel. As for our current lot of players, I am sure there is a leader who could handle something like this, the other players just have to be willing to follow.

This is not supporting pro pool, but really subsidizing a few to play pro pool.

Not the same thing.

How come there is never talk about ways to expand the amount of pro players?

What keeps those that are very capable of playing pro level pool, but dont? Why not find out these reason out and address them?

It is always about the current playing pros, but never about growing pro pool as a whole, meaning bringing in new players.

Unless more are willing to play pro level pool, pro pool will continue to shrink.

Doing that duck. Trying to form a base of 640 spots. Some current, some former pulling them back in and hopefully some new. Never had a more sensible training path offered to aspiring players than this.

We cannot support the small amount of pros we have now, getting more pro players is not the solution but would be more of a problem. I think it would be feasible to support 32-64 players like this with each being a league operator making a salary that is guaranteed. They kick money as league operators do to the league which puts some aside for the amateur events and some aside for the pro events. I think we do need more youth playing the game and I will get into that soon enough with a new thread and solution.

I wish you success with this Joe.

Because, for example, BetVictor sponsors the Welsh Open and Databet sponsors the World Championship and the Masters (the two highest paying tournaments (£300,000 and £200,000 respectively for the winners).

Myths don't contribute money. :D

And when the eastern bloc's finest car manufacturer, Lada, sponsored snooker? Why were millions gripped by Steve Davis' first televised maximum? To get a butcher's at the car he won?

Sport's success pulls sponsors. Ask yourself why snooker has sponsors and you have your answer.

One reason. The social status of snooker is noticeably higher than pool.

Or get the marketing numbers of the sodas/foods that pool players consume and somewhere within that demographic lies our sponsors. Budweiser went with leagues and Coors got into the pool world a few decades back when Danny was in his prime. Medina had a good thing going with Coors but his lifestyle was 180 out from corporate thinking, he had a sweet deal, but he didn't keep up his end of the relationship.

Barry Hearn smiled about snooker's faulty plan all the way to the bank

Snooker has done a tremendous job of maintaining the integrity of their sport. Barry Hearn was the key, I'd like to have seen him run his original snooker plan by the "az critics"

He'd been laughed at, ridiculed, called names.....meanwhile he'd be smiling all the way to the bank.

Professional pool needs to be an extension of an amateur pool league. And it probably needs to be a team sport. Bonus ball leagues could be the answer.

Leagues, teams, home cities, etc, could all be possible answers.. But Bonus Ball--NEVER ! :(

Watching Pro Pool is like watching paint dry. I only watch if Earl is on. Otherwise I check it out to reinforce good pool habits. We need some characters to stir the pot some for TV. Asians may be the best but are the most boring to watch. TV is entertainment. Not a Wake like pool and golf. Holman's facial expression gives me nightmare's. That's whey they are paid nickels. Pool sponsors have no $$. Pool needs outside $$.

I actually agree about Earl. I am sure there are people who don't necessarily agree with him but he is almost always entertaining. I believe he is VERY good for pool.

However, as I have said before, there are a number of players who are good ambassadors for pool. SVB, Max Eberle, Darren Appleton, and several others all do a great job of representing the sport of pool.
