Someone Tried to Hack My AZ Billiards Account

I have 0 and you do not got much more then I do. :o

Hey, you got 1,225 vChippies. I think somebody hacked into my account and put those vChippies in your account. There's something fishy going on here!

I want them back -- RIGHT NOW! :grin-devilish:

Vbulletin Forums are the most popular or widely use Forum program. I know for a fact the administrator can read your PM box as I was a Moderator on one such forum of a much different subject. As a Moderator Passwords are not all that protected if you know how to get them. Most people will use the same password for everything. Hacking into the administrators Password is hard but not impossible. Because one such Admin logged on to my forum using his same password I was able to hack his. It can be interesting or boring to read the Moderators Forum. They say things there not intended for public view. Of course once logged in you can change a administrators Password  Oh yes there are Forum wars and that is why I no longer want to be a Moderator.

They can also look and see who gives REP where, and read the comments. I picked up on this tidbit years ago when a Mod made the comment "interesting to see who gave REP to this guy" in a post just before locking the thread. It has since disappeared into thread purgatory. I don't care either way, just thought you would like to know.

Haha, I have no idea where they came from, placed a bet recently and had 25 so maybe it was when my Membership got renewed.

Yes the Admin has complete control, But the Moderators don't necessarily do. The Admin has the ability to limit every member including the Moderators.

As far as getting paranoid over what the Moderators can and can't see don't get too worried. It takes too much time to start spying on members when you have so many other things you must spend time on. Like Jam said so what if they want to read my PM box, there is nothing worth hacking it for.

One Hack we used was very funny. You can make it so the PITA member can read his own post but no one else can. They get very frustrated when no one replies. One guy we kept banning would keep signing up under a different screen name until we ban his IP. But in the mean time we put him on unseen post hack. Just for fun the Mods played with him by replying to his posts just to give him back the PITA he was trying to give us. Another hack is to make all their replies have to approved for before posting to the forum. I don't see those problem here.

In my case it was not a mod or admin trying to get in because they can if they want, it was just somebody trying to be nosey or start trouble by using my account, only motives I could think of for wanting to log in to my account. Amazing the things people do when they have no life. :grin-square:

Best thing I can tell is have a long password that isn't a word. They are much harder to crack or guess. Any time we post on the Internet we open ourselves up hackers. The more Personal stuff you put on the net the more risk you take of ID theft. There are some very sick people in this world. I am just paranoid enough to try and stay anonymous as much as possible. However after 10 years on one forum everyone on that forum knows who I am.

I'm sorry Lenny, it was me. Don't be mad but I didn't want my account associated with the Communist posts I was going to make on your behalf. I also wanted to use your account so that I could clone it and make 10,000 or more Lenny's and dominate the entire AZ forum. By they time I got done, they would have been calling you "MR. Lenny" :)

Oh, don't worry about any black vans outside your house, it's part of protocol.

It seems that the 2 of you have a ton of posts.Maybe someone wanted to use your names for a fraudulent sale?

Where do you look to find these failed log-in attempts? Thank You.

Mine was sent to my email that I used for registration here, it is probably a security measure for the forums, the good thing is it told me the IP and they were not able to get in, not a huge deal if they did, read some PMs and maybe make some crazy post and change my avatar to a donkey or something.

I am not sure the motives but just guessing, no one else has had this problem other then JAM but that was awhile ago so its isolated incidents.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that I ended up deleting all my cookies and temporary files because of it. I had an odd-looking AzBilliards cookie that I had not had previously. So delete your cookies and temporary files too.

Just in case you have a virus or trojan or worm, it might be something like that hacking into your AzBilliards account.

I use a free utility called "CCleaner" to keep my temp files and cookies cleaned up. It works great and it's free.....

Well just getting going right now and looked in my email as I do every morning and got an email from AZ Billiards that someone tried to log into my account atleast 5 times unsuccessfully and also twice this happened. Here is the 2 IP addresses it gave me that tried to log in. 205.188.116.17 and 75.60.23.226 . If anyone can help me track it back to the owner of the IP that would be cool, I tried online and just got that one was America Online (Virginia) and the other was AT&T (Texas).

Is the AZ email real? The email saying something is wrong is usually the fake. It tries to get you do log in through a link so it can get your information. I would ask AZ first if they really sent it.

Yes, the email is legit, did not know they would send emails if someone failed logging into an account but glad they did.

That is a standard feature on Vbulletin programs as well as many other websites with passwords as a security feature. They are send automatic. I still get E mails telling me my son logged into his bank account from a different IP.
