Ever run into one????
I played some cheap sets (7 for 20) with a guy the other day, who was introduced to me as a BCA Grand Master (yet upon a little research after the fact, I cant find his name anywhere). The guy keeps talking as we are playing, every so often mentioning his prowess. We either played 6 or 8 sets, I cant remember now. A couple sets were hill hill, but the others were seesaw. I came out 2 sets winner on the guy, and he starts with his BS talk hardcore. Telling me that hes only playing 20 percent of his capability, and considering that he stayed close to me, that he would play me anytime, for as much as I wanted to yadda yadda yadda. Implying that I am no where near his speed.
Heres the thing, I can clock people pretty close, and this guy is not a Grand Master, or a Master level player to begin with. I had to quiet him down a little bit, and instruct him on proper sportsmanship afterwards which is something that I havent had to do in a long while.
In the last 6 months I have played at MOST 4-5 hours a week, havent strung anything together in I couldnt tell you how long. I was making a ton of mistakes playing this guy, and he still stood no real chance.
Why is it, that some guys have to start barking AFTER they are done playing and have lost? Trying to save face? To big an ego to begin with?
I got in my car afterwards and had a good chuckle to myself.

I played a guy in a super cheap 10 ball tournament just tonight who was like this. I had him down 4-0 and his trash talk was so bad i had to go talk with the TD!!! After I broke and ran on him to end the match 5-0 he got in my face, told me he wanted to gamble (which I only do with a select group of people), And then stormed out the door. I Just cant get over guys like this.

Thanks for the entertaining story. Maybe it is a defense mechanism of his grand masterful crap pool. Not only does he shoot like crap, his breath smells like it because he talks it :)
Glad you find it humourous  maybe he is your lucky ATM, he says he will play you anytime for any amount, just have fun with him lol

Happy shooting! :)

Let's face it, pool is an ego trip, for men mostly, though some women also. Reminds me of the guy who showed up on AZ some time ago whose friends all told him he should be going on the road. He was asking for action, got offered everything from cheap {$10-20} up to and including 100s/1000s. After all that he refused everything, guess he may have figured he wasn't that good after all.

Haha. Tell me about it. Especially for gangsters. My instructor hustled 5 guys out of $1,200 one time. Thugs think pool adds to their hardcore image. Being thug somehow implies that you're automatically good at it (figure that one out). So he used it to their advantage. Take those balloon heads and pop 'em with their own strings.

Gotta agree with my friend chin0 here. Make friends with him; tell him how much you admire his game; brag about him to your friends in front of him; ask him how to do this and that and act all impressed; buy him at least one drink every session out of appreciation for what you have learned from him -- then draw up your deposit slip for that bank deposit!

shoulda been nice

I'm with the guys that say you should have been nice and "admitted" you just got lucky playing an expert like him. I've seen guys believe their own BS and go off for months. If you let them come out a set or two ahead once in awhile they will crow about it to the world but you have an ATM for life!

RiverCity, I think you have found your own personal ATM.

Make sure we hear about the rubber match.

I think we've all run into guys too full of machismo and not full enough of game. I think it's a compensation thing. They're trying to compensate for having no ability at the game.

At one time I had a stable full of guys like that on a string. They would insult me, throw things (not at me), and tell the whole place how LUCKY I was. I just grinned at them like they were right, then went out and bought another Racing Greyhound with their money. Johnnyt

He is your friend the way a porkchop is your friend. Keep him close and play him for money often. Tell other people he's coaching you and putting money on it to harden you up, and then giving the win to you to build your confidence. It's worth it.

Oh yea, i love these kinda guys, who have the "big fish" ego going on in thier head. I've had numerous guys when playing them and losing they start in with the ohhhh i am off, or having a bad day or w/e......

Now on the flip side, I've had off days and get to talking with guys while shooting and end up missing easy shots and stuff like that, and then end up looking like a noob!

Thats the funny thing, I wasnt even planning on playing the guy. I was playing the room owner dirt cheap and this guy walks in. I had no intention on trying to make money off of him, but I will gladly accept his anytime anywhere offer should it arise again....... ;)
I just think its a sad reality of the level of sportsmanship out there in this sport. From my experience over the years, its becoming rarer and rarer to find GOOD sportsmanship being displayed, and this type of crap happens more and more often. I saw Earl playing a guy in a tournament one time, and he made a completely innocent comment to his opponent about a bad roll his opponent had.... the guy goes off on Earl, who was just giving his sympathy for the bad luck.
Chuck

LOL it is Earl, nuff said. Through Earl's action, even if he meant good and sympathy, we would still think he was talking smack because he is notorious for his bad temper and running off at the mouth. I always refer to Earl as a shooter with a wrestler's attitude. :)
