What brand/cue maker makes the closest feeling and playing cue to a South West?
Please indicate time of wait list.
Looks don't count.

I had to think about it a few minutes.
I'd say a Pat Diveney.
I like the feel and playability of a Pat Diveney more than SW.
A Diveney is a little stiffer feeling, more solid feeling and a bit more feedback can be felt through a Pat Diveney cue.
Very short wait list too.

I have never understood this.

If you want a cue that hits like a South West why wouldn't you just buy a South West? They are out there and if you look you can usually find them pretty easy.

The other thing is not all SW's hit the same. Some are radically different depending on specs like shaft taper, butt diameter, ferrule material and even the tip. So if not all real SW's hit the same how is something else supposed to hit like one?

If you just want a "South West style" cue pick up a dead cat and swing it....you will hit at least three of them.

To me nothing else feels like my old SW, but one of the cues I really regret selling(and I have had a bunch) was a Rick Howard cue.:frown:

Oh never mind.....I see what you did there.

I don't concern myself too much with how a cue hits as long as I'm not miscuing. The most important thing is that the object ball falls off the slate. Give me a decent cue and I'm happy.

Focus on the indian more and the arrow less.

It is an actual question

You know, I totally missed that. Sounded like it was an actual question.
Your participation is appreciated in this forum and this thread, but if you want to read minds you should find a mind readers forum of some type.

The one that has the same exact taper, joinery, materials, process and workmanship will be your best bet outside of a true SW .
But, nothing else hits like a SW.

Too many variables control the type of hit you get with a cue with any cue brand, even Southwest. But if what you are wanting is a quality cue that has a Southwest style design, and you dont want to wait 10 years and pay an exorbitant price, Coker cues are an excellent choice. They will give you that "look", give you a quality cue, and are very reasonably priced, making them an excellent value for a cue buyer. I have been more than happy with my ivory jointed Coker for the last 14 years.

Well

I have in the past directly compared a Shurtz cue (Bob Owen) to a southwest. I had a $1,100 Shurtz cue and compared to a 'fancy' Southwest cue, and could not tell the difference in hit, and only the slightest of difference in balance. My Shurtz was slightly more forward balanced than the Southwest.

Bob Owen is taking orders, and his lead time is 6-8 months. Call
(316) 269-3844 or Bob@Shurtzcue.com

P.S. I am having him make me a new cue in February 2013.

Years ago I tried a Dominick. Only for a dozen strokes or so. The hit on THAT PARTICULAR CUE was very crisp, snappy, and somewhat dry which is how I would describe an SW hit. But so, let me understand this, you're asking about an SW style hit, but you like the Diveney anyway? So what's the point?

Any cue that uses the taper designed by Paul Kersenbrock will have a similar hit to a Southwest. Off the top of my head I would suggest, Omega DPK, Bender, Bill Webb, Ed Young and others who use a similar taper.

Omegas and Benders are expensive "alternatives", Ed Young is impossible. But the hit of a cue is in the whole cue not just the shaft. The old SW Kersenbrocks had a coke-bottle taper in the butt.

HIT is like High, or How High is High?????

When someone show me a Scientific Way to measure "HIT"
with measuring machines, and meters I will believe.

Other wise IMHO it is like many things, in the eyes of the beholder.

I as well will wait for it to be measured in meters.

Here is your Meter for Measuring.
Now all you got to do is make it
a Hit-O-Meter...
LOL.

I play with an OMEN cue
people ask me all the time if it's a Southwest
and I'm proud to say no it's an OMEN
plays just as good as any Southwest Ive ever hit.I've heard people call it a poor mans Southwest.
I think it's a smart mans Southwest.
Looks awesome,plays even better.

What's the best ...?

What is your deal with all the 'what's the best'/ 'what's the worst' questions?

One with a little common sense would understand that there is no 'best', once there are choices established.

What's the best car? What's the best food? What's the best shoe...?

WTF?! There is no prize for starting the most threads.

Thanks for bumping all these back to the top. The forum appreciates it.
