Southwest airlines lost all of my cues....

They said if they don't find them within the first 48hrs, they typically don't surface..... It's been 49.

File a claim for the maximum allowed, whether that be $3,000 or whatever.

Wait a reasonable amount (two to four weeks) of time and then file an action in small claims court against Southwest. Yes, you can do this. The small claims limit is probably $5,000, but it could be more.

Good luck. This has been successful before for someone I know who sued Southwest. He lost his luggage with an expensive laptop and watch inside. He had all the receipts (which you need also, and photos). They settled.

All - thanks for the words.... I know that it's pretty much bullshit the runaround that I am getting, but I am going to hit every avenue I can to ensure that I get either my cues back (preferred) or some sort of compensation...

Yoda - Only way to alleviate what happened to me is to mail your cues ahead of time.

Jay - thanks a ton for the advice. Should they not turn up, that is exactly what I will do.

All of my stuff is gone. This sucks. :(

I travel Southwest extensively and haven't had a problem, maybe I haven't encountered the " cue thief ". I also always pack my cues in a Fed-Ex tube. Don't know if this helps but I still have my cues.

Keep us posted on this. Everyone who travels is interested.

Good Luck getting your cues back!

:( I hope your homeowners/renters insurance picks it up mine does...

That's just what I was about to say - check your homeowner's insurance policy, maybe call your agent, and see if that's a route to take.

So sorry to hear about your cues :(

What with the current restrictions re: cues and planes, and the nature of the baggage handling systems and the folks who work them, I'm starting to think it would be much safer - MUCH safer - to just FedEx your cue case each way. It might cost a bit more, but I think you'll have more options as far as insurance, plus a cue case in a cardboard box isn't as tempting an item for pilfering when it's amongst tons of other items in cardboard boxes.

Only recently (last month) have I ever flown with cues. On the trip out, my case came out the carousel. On the trip back, it was shuffled off to the carousel against a wall, one of those vertical ones that typically get used for golf club bags and the like. I waited by the main carousel for about 15 min, starting to worry, then wandered over and found my case sitting on the floor (with a bunch of other luggage) by that other carousel. Whew. :D

I have flown many times with no hiccups at all, this is my first.

As far as homeowners/renters insurance is concerned, I just got a new house a month ago (renting for now) and have not done that yet. My wife and I were discussing last week that we are getting renter's insurance, and I was getting quotes last week, but I don't have any insurance at all that would cover this.... Timing was everything, I guess... :(

So did you own a house before, sold it and you're renting now? If you had homeowner's insurance before - did you cancel it? You might still be good on that front. Call your agent, explain the situation, and see what's what. All you'll be out in a few minutes of time.

Yup, we canceled that a few days after closing. We decided to rent for a year until we found an area that we liked, since we relo'd to a new state.

I know they do owe us a repayment for paying through the end of Aug07, so..... that's an idea. Thanks!

While I have always been leary of flying with cues, and have often suggested the FedEx route...the problem here is that Ross would have never made it to Philly to get his cues from FedEx. Most who do go the FedEx route, often have the hotel where they are staying sign for the item when it is delivered to the front desk. In most cases, this is ideal....however, since Ross would not have been able to make it to his destination, the end result, in this case, could have been equally disastrous.

Bottom line here is, the Feds need to review their policies...particularly on high ticket items like cues. EVERY plane has at least one, if not more closets onboard. Before 9/11, when I used to fly with my very pricey kites, they would allow for storage in one of these closets...as they would not fit under the seat or in the overhead compartment....not that many people even use these closets anymore, and a cue case would fit in there without taking up much room at all!! Once the plane is loaded, they could then secure these closets, thus eliminating passengers access to them until disembarking.

I hope some BCA people are gona read this post of mine..THIS is where i would glady pay a membership fee to the BCA if in a time like this they came to the rescue of this guy...like the FOP when i was an officer. When we got into some sticky stuff they were there at the drop of a dime. I really wish we as pool players had an organization that was large enough and strong enough to represent players when things happen like this. I read in Inside Pool Magazine the new head guy of BCA and he talked about changing the image of the BCA..here is an example of how the BCA could be come somethine wonderful...be a voice and strength behind players when a tragedy like this happens...

Hey im really sorry about your cues..and i second the emotion that some employee who knew that was a pool case and just saw some pretty cues and wanted to make a buck.who ever took it i hope they get Syphilis

and claim they aren't responsible, nor will I get reimbursed. :(

Their reasoning for this is two fold. First being that I was not a "full fare-paying customer" since I was using my reward points (some thanks for spending a ton of money with them, huh?). Secondly, because... Limits on liability for loss, damage to, or delayed delivery of passenger baggage, including fragile, perishable, and certain other irreplaceable or high-value goods or contents (inlcuding collectible, antique, or "one of a kind" items)....

I'm missing ~$5500 worth of stuff. I am still hanging on to a thread of hope that it will turn up, but I've spoken with my originating, layover, and destination airports, and nothing has been found at all. No explanation or speculation as to what may have happened. This was every cue I owned, with the exception of one. What really sucks was I was going to sell two of them to knock down my credit card balance.....

JWPetree (ebony/flame, 3 shafts) - forearm built by ScottR - sad part was I rec'd this Thur, lost on Friday, never even played with it.

4.jpg

AE w/ orginial shaft + brand new shaft that Dennis Searing built a month ago - great hitting cue, the short amount that I got to play with it..

148795.jpg

An old Rambow (1 shaft) that I was going to either sell or have it documented and cleaned up...

153304.jpg

and my break cue (Sledgehammer - older one that says, "Gulyassy Custom Cues"), that was kind of sentimental based upon how I got it..... that pisses me off, especially since I JUST had a new tip and shaft conditioning done, too...

These were all in two cases, and traveling inside of a Porper black travel case.....

Black Ostrich 2x4 It's George/Brunswick - brand new... :(
Jim Murnak 2x4 Dark Brown with "RC" initials on the lid..

I can't say that it's 100% gone, but after speaking with every place I've been, and some I didn't even get to, it's not looking too promising.... I was told that they check twice daily all lost luggage into the system, and since I filed a report with them, they have all of my contact info and numbers that were on my luggage.

I'm pretty sure my cues will turn up, but where, and for what price they will be available for purchase is the question.... I just wished I was in a position to say, "It's just money!" and write it off, but I think this just killed me. I am still checking ebay, craigslist, and the like - and will be until I find something.

All of my stuff is gone. This sucks. :(

I have lost things on an Airline in the past. I made a claim through my Home Owners insurance, I recouped about 60% of the items value. This may be an option for you along with other avenues.

Sorry for your loss, I you either get you cues back or some form of compensation>

Lost cues

I haven't traveled by air with my cues since 9/11 and when I traveled before that I took my cue case on board with me and kept it either in the above luggage area above my seat or on the floor between my feet so I knew where my cues were at all times. I can't imagine how you must feel about losing your cues like this. Ever since they started not allowing you to take your cues onboard and making you check them as luggage i've thought about just taking a sneaky pete cue with me if I travel by air to avoid the possibility of what's happened to you. I wish you the best of luck getting your cues back.

Sounds like a freaken nightmare.I hate it for you.

I'd be sick..and pissed.
It doesn't seem right that you must hand em over, but after that nobody is responsible.I'm sure they don't WANT to be held responsible, but dam how does this work.

Come to think of it I'd imagine this lack of "reponsibility" really fosters a lack of "accountability" for personal who handle baggage.
It must be a virtual wet dream for those employees with ill intent....I mean why not..as reps of SW they themselves are not "responsible" either.

To put it another way,the WE ARE NOT REPOSIBLE stance taken by the CEO,actually encourages theft by the handlers. How much invetigating do you think they do considering it doesn,t cost em anything whether something is stolen or not?Pitiful postition to take regarding customer satisfaction at the end of the day when considering the big picture.

Good luck dude.I hope you get em back, but I suspect you won't.The corporate office has given stealing the green light imo.

Dam I'd be pissed.

Ross

If you need something decent to play with until you either get your back or find a new cue, let me know. I will get it out to you ASAP my friend. I am sorry to hear about your misfortune.
I don't have any junk either. You can pick what you want.
Purdman:(

Ross... i am very sad over this.. hopefully things will work out for you.. and hopefully your cues will show up.. possible because of all the backlogs in the last week.. there is still a chance.. got my figers crossed buddy! :)

Just keep in mind that disclaimers and releases only exist to discourage the filing of claims - they do not absolve the organization of responsibility. So, for every one person who follows up on their threat to sue, there are easily 20 that don't even file a claim. So, in that respect, it's simply good business to issue them.

They may be able to ignore you, but they won't be able to ignore a court.

OMG! I truly feel for you buddy. Those are each works of art that I REALLLLY hope you get back. I remember seeing you post maybe in the gallery or forum both that case and the ebony on ebony.

I remember feeling devastated when my Jensen was lost of a truck. Got a call two weeks later by some bystandard that found the lost shipping tube and gave me a call.

Have faith.....................and then SUE!!!! :)

No doubt some ***hole from the TSA is figuring out how to sell them right now

Thanks all for the words of encouragement... I just finished writing a 3 page letter (what can I say, I just start typing not realizing what I'm even saying!) that will be dropped in the mail first thing tomorrow morning to SW's HQ in Dallas. I just got off of the phone with someone from their customer service/reservations area, and to no suprise, there is no email address!! I think I will be making copies and cc'ing their executive managment on this one....

I still can't believe I've been told I cannot even get reimbursed for the value lost, but I assure you, they are getting an earful....

I completely agree, I think their disclaimer is bs and I will make this a civil matter if need be.....

PM's sent to a few of you... thanks again.
