Southwest cues

I never understood the reason to wait 10 years for a cue that is rather plain in design.
Or why people would pay top dollar for them.
Or why people would pay a premium for someone else's spot for buying one.
Until last Saturday.
A person I know well enough at the pool room has one and I asked if I could hit some balls with it. I got to hit about 10 balls with it. All went in the pocket.
Very impressed with the hit and balance.
I would do none of the above but I understand it now.

It's the supply and demand commerce rule to a tee.

the cue is rather plain by comparison to most, a *very* low % ever get an inlay, just the usual 6 point, 3 hi 3 low and that familiar butt sleeve but they really do know what woods to get and how to put them together to achieve a beautiful and consistent hit.

I'm on the list.

best,
brian kc

plus, it costs nothing to wait. I put myself on the list, figured why not. Costs nothing now and when my turn comes up I have the option to get the cue or not.

Hi. Mine took 13 years and now in the process of getting the cue made. I will get to know in the few months how it actually hits.

Chris nitti cues have a very similar hit. Buy a nitti for half the price and some design character. SW are repetitious and characterless. So boring. Unless you like that sort of thing.

Does Nitti have the same curved taper ?

That's all fine and dandy: but how many cues can you play with for years and then sell at a profit?

That's what keeps SW at the top of the heap... the long list makes the cues more valuable. Supply and demand. Not the first company to figure this out ;) A guy on my team had a SW... ehh ? It was fine, but didn't feel much different than most cues I use. I guess, from all the hype, I was expecting an out of body experience or something ;)

I had a chance to hit one of Jerry Franklin era SW's, the hit felt better than my Scruggs', so far probably the only one to hit better than my own cue :) On the other hand, of the newer SW's I've tried was way too stiff and rigid and I didn't like it that much.

Every time I hit with a SW, I'm reminded of the legacy of David Kersenbrock....
....he was a big influence on Jerry Franklin.
David was a refugee from the hippie generation....sometimes he would go to the desert
for a couple weeks for inspiration while building a cue.
If he was leather wrapping a cue, he would put the butt and leather in the same room for
a couple weeks ( so they could get used to each other )....:)
I have Kersenbrock's book on cue making.
...like Van Gogh....an eccentric genius.

Hit wise, I can't tell a Kersenbrock from a SW....
...what I admire about both is that playability is cherished over looks.

Okay, RJ and all, you can tell me about the Indians vs the arrows....
...but I will always take the best arrow I can find.

Southwest Cues have a mystic that very few cues have.
I'm sure is has something to do with the 13-year wait list, but the quality, balance,
the consistent hit, fit & finish is all a unique process that sets them apart.
Their wait list is kind of a big deal.
SW has everything you expect when you buy a mildly overpriced cue.

Just like most cue makers, some of there cues hit better than others. I have owned a few southwests and hit with several more. I can easily rank them in terms of their feel and hit. I now own a kersenbrock and it hits better than all those SW cues. A great hitting SW cue is tough to beat, even by makers whose Merry Widow cues sell for the same as a 6 point SW.

The cues are the best cues ever made
so people buy them and wit

I doubt that anyone could tell the Kersenbrocks from the Jerry or the Laurie from the other 2 in a blind test

If you don't have one,I recommend getting on the list

call them
702 870 9615

if you don;t like it,I will give your money back, buy it for your cost

Find another cue with that kind of offer

They are nice but I had two made for me by Jerry and didn't like them, go figure. I sold both. I also hit with others I didn't care for.

I recently got a Nitti cue and it's fantastic.
Came with two shafts that play amazing.
I'm not an LD man so I like his shafts just as he makes them and I don't use one of my LD's on it.
But this cue is worth every penny.
I've had Southwest and they're very good cues, but are they as good as their prices demand.....NO!
At least not in my opinion.

Tommy Kennedy represents them. He often has some for sale on his facebook page for sale.

Its been established that champions can win world titles one after another with a Cuetec.

That being said I've hit with Black Boars and Szambotis. I've played and own Prewitt, Ginacues, Tads, Joss West, Meuccis, Padgets, Wes Hunter, Mezz and Cuetec and I still keep playing with my SW cue.

I don't know man, I've got a vintage jet black Cuetec, with at least six gold
skull & crossbone inlays, and a Cuetec Thunderbolt shaft.
Bad ass cue for sure, vintage Cuetec.

You find the best arrow and I'll find the best Indian, then lets go to war ;)

You let me pick your player's arrow and you might not like it.

Ya know I love ya, RJ....but I'll go to the mat about good equipment....
....maybe I'll have to start a thread from my point of view.
