SP with a solid hit?

While my experience with Sneaky Pete's has been limited, all of the ones that I've played with have had a soft feel to them, with me eventually getting rid of them. I'm looking at picking up a lower end SP, ~$150 or less, and was wondering if anybody in particular makes a solid hitting SP? I've seen a few that would probably feel solid, but they all have some sort of collar at the joint, thereby giving away the fact that it's actually a 2 piece cue.

I think that the 1st time you screw the 2 PIECES together, everyone will know that is not a 1 piece house cue. We've talked about "feel" & hit & most everyone has enforced my own belief, that the hardness of the tip & ferrule can influence the "FEEL" of the cue...JER

AGREED....YOU WANT A HARD HIT, USE A HARD TIP AND FERRULE.

I WILL SO THOUGH, THAT A SP WITH NO COLLARS WITH HAVE AN INHERENT SOFTER HIT BECAUSE OF THE WOOD TO WOOD JOINT. BUT IF YOU USE A HARD TIP AND FERRULE IT CERTAINLY WILL ADD MORE "POP" TO THE HIT.

Not sure if this holds true today......But i would call 'Little Al'
At Hardtimes.....He used to make a jam up SP, for a good price.
Not sure now, as my suggestion comes from years ago...Worth a try.

As far as keeping the fact that your cue is a SP secret, just go into the place early before most people get there. I hadn't thought about changing out the tip or ferrule for a harder combination though.

I am not a cuemaker but I will suggest that you can get a house cue you like and ask a cuemaker to cut it into 2 and install a joint.

If you want a custom SP, get a maker to make it for you with a conical taper, big joint (>0.850"), put on a harder ferrule and tip - it might hit like a break cue though. What you want to know is also if you want a hard hit (hard ferrule, hard tip) or a stiff hit (more progressive or thick taper) which imo are different things. Case in point: My Meucci hits hard as I changed the ferrule and put on a hard tip but at the same time has a whippy hit because of its long pro-taper.

Try EBay and look for an Eliminator Sneaky Pete. Theres a guy (username Bebop, from Texas) that does sell them the cheapest. Usually around the $20 mark.
I bought 4. Nice rosewood stain into maple. Points are amazingly close, and the shafts are pretty decent also. Fairly well balanced. For $20 you can play a decent game with it and its the closest you'll ever come to an actual house cue. Wood to wood joint and the only marking on the handle is the word, Eliminator. Change the ferrule and tip as others suggested. I had a hard ferrule and a medium tip put on it. You might use a Super Pro instead. And believe me, you cannot see the joint unless you are eyeballing it in front of your face.

I'm a little particular in my definition of what constitutes a sneaky-pete. A true sneaky is a cue that looks exactly like a one pc. house/bar cue. So much so that when you get up to go to the can, the bar-maid puts it back in the rack with the rest of the house cues. Then you know you've got a sneaky. I've seen it happen many times.
If you were to have one of these cues and now add joint collars, Hoppe ring, wrap. etc. you no longer have a sneaky, you have what I refer to as a 'fancy-pete'. There's nothing sneaky about it and the only one you'll be fooling is yourself to think otherwise.

Anyway, I digress. The hit of the one pc. house cue is the bench-mark that others cues' hit is compared to. This is because the 1 pc. cue yields the purist form of hit. There is no joint to disrupt the transmission of vibration to your grip hand. There is no wrap that would tend to insulate or soften the vibs. to your hand. Any wrap that is softer than the wood in the cue will act as an insulator.

It's not too practical to carry a 1 pc. cue around in your car. Hence, the birth of the 2 pc. cue. The first key to a firm hitting 2 pc. cue is to make the joint connection as tight as possible. A steel pin into a brass insert does this pretty well, sometimes too well. Have you ever seen a cue 'locked-up'? On the other end of the spectrum is the 'big' pin directly into wood, ie, 3/8x10, 11 or Radial. These tend to yield a softer hit because of the wood threads in the shaft. However, these big pins can give a much firmer hit when coupled with a phenolic insert in the shaft. I've come to believe strongly in the phenolic insert for the big pin. This can enhance the hit of the cue quite dramatically. Since it's on the inside of the cue, no one sees it.

As stated, a harder tip and/or harder ferrule will indeed strengthen the hit but not everyone can play a real hard tip without mis-cueing frequently. You have to have a refined stroke for a hard tip.

Anyway, what was your question again? Oh yeah, who makes such a cue.
Well, just about any competent CM on here if you tell them what you want.

I say Al Last week he is still making those jam up sneakies plus getting into some alittle fancier now. Get them while you can before he gets back into one pocket again.

I would try a carmeli purpleheart sneaky. A friend of mine has one that hits very solid. It hit firmer than my frey or stacey. Hope this helps...

sneaky pete

If you are trying to be really sneaky and you don't want something that hits like a sponge try to find a gunn /mceniry cue. It hits hard, It will stand up to you pounding the rack on hard breaks and it shoots pretty darn sporty. Hard to find but if you can get one it'll be a keeper I'm sure.www.tampabilliards.com

i forgot the cuemakers name but there's a cuemaker on here that makes custom cues to look like budwiser cues and such. i'd guess that's probably the sneakiest sneaky
