Spanish Open, June 2023, from Matchroom

Simply magnificent. Dang's run out at double hill was really something special. So, for that matter, was the rack Bijsterbosh ran double hill to beat Labutis.

Dang is best this week, but not by much!

Dang takes it 13-12. One of the best matches I've seen in some time.

without a doubt. both were playing great. idk if those wild shot selections of marcs is his regular MO or if the occasion got to him but it was very entertaining. dang played fast and aggressive, even in the last rack. brilliant!

Heartbroken for Marc, but huge congrats to Jin Hu!

Opposite to most I thought it was pretty sloppy play. But just under perfect play is the most exciting play! Because you get to see 2 rail kick safeties and dramatic misses. Much more exciting than players break and running..

Yes, this was not Ali vs Frazier. It was, however, a match in which two underdogs reached down deep and, sporadically, found magical stuff that offered an unforgettable show.

Agree. The best final rack in a major final in a long time

I'd say lack of shot clock experience.

When you support Marc, you only cheer when the 9 falls. Because somehow always something goes south during a rack. I hope this loss takes him to the next level.

Dang Jin Hu won every match played, including twice over Skyler Woodward... I never heard about him before. Did he used to play before?

That truly was magic. I got goosebumps and my hands started shaking when it got to hill-hill and you could hear that crowd cheering.

Live YouTube Premier of the highlights.

No, not the best final ever. Probably doesn't make the top twenty five, but it was a dandy.

I think the match that usually gets the nod for best final ever is Wu over Kuo Po Cheng at the 2005 World Championships, but it doesn't get the nod from me. The Efren Z-shot Sands Regency had a great finish but wasn't the greatest match.

For me, the best ever final was the 2014 US Open 9-ball final. Orcullo played to a 1.000 TPA for about the first half of the match, and one had to wonder whether SVB even had the gear to cope with the finest play we'd ever seen from Orcullo at the US Open 9-ball. The level SVB found to win the title was the stuff legends are made of, and Orcullo, despite shooting something close to .940, was denied the title. I've heard Jay Helfert suggest this was the greatest ever match at the US Open 9-ball, and he's probably right. Two legends in dead stroke together producing a quality that is almost unimaginable is what a great final is all about.

Yes, we saw a great final today, probably the best to date in 2023, but let's not get carried away here.

That shot in the final game on the 4 ball down the long rail does not fall on our 4-1/4” pockets. I know it was hit at pocket speed, but that ball was sitting a good 4-5 inches off the cushion from the edge of the ball closest to the cushion. The ball struck the side cushion over 1 full sight from the corner pocket and still fell - barely. A few more days of wear on that cloth and it would have hung.

It’s been this way for a while now of course, but this really makes me marvel at how international pool is. Great event and some awesome matches.

Was rooting hard for Sky.

also that ball never got in outer tables. Those TV tables played loose compared any other tables in venue. Probably because TV lights dry the cloth..

I tried not to get sucked into watching this cuz it's a sin to be inside with the weather so nice. Made time to watch. Very entertaining stuff...

Matchroom deserves alot of praise as so the players for making this entertaining. The tighter pockets producing more misses. The break rules/rack limiting packages. Nice to see all the great safety play.

Lot of good pool coming and World Cup starts Tuesday.
