It would be nice to see a short youtube video of somebody who can do this well. Any volunteers?
Got all the videos up. Are they good enough for you friend?

av84fun,

I forgot to mention.. I played a little with Samuel Clemanns in Europe right after he did well in an international event, and he could stroke this shot MUCH better than I could. I believe that from the box, he one time drew the ball one rail past the opposite side!!!

Russ

You had me going there for a minute. "Samuel Clemens" was fond of saying that the reports of his death were greatly exaggerated. But not since 1910!! (-:

Just as a generalization, however, a LOT of shots we have all seen made, were exectuted on pool hall tables where, due to wear, the CBs have become much lighter than new.

At JOBs here in Nashville, I routinely draw 50% longer than on my home table with fairly new 860 and a Super Pro CB that has mabye 1/1000th the number of shots made with it than the average CB at a popular hall.

Due to time constraints, I probably play 90% of the time on my home table and I can't tell you how many matches I've lost to lesser players because of over cranking draw shots.

OBVIOUSLY, I need to play out more often and/or learn how to adjust faster than I seem to...but when the chips are down, we tend to default to our "normal feel" so I get 3 diamonds of draw instead of the 1.5 that I intended.

I suppose I should just buy an old CB off of JOB and practice with it.

Here's one with low extreme left english. http://video.yahoo.com/watch/2663819/7803471

One with low right http://video.yahoo.com/watch/2664127/7804540

Here's one with just draw and speed control and no side english. http://video.yahoo.com/watch/2664174/7804667

Hardly any slow rolling as there are a lot of traffic to avoid and really don't want the shot to be dependent on the table condition when playing rotation.

Enjoy!

psst>>all done on first try. Will try to do "X out of 10 tries" one of these nights. Of course, these were all shot by Roberto Gomez!

Nice stroke! But take a video of the house cue tech weighing the CB!

Sorry, I misspelled his name. It's Samuel Clemann.

(In here multiple times..search for "Clemann")

3rd place.

He seems to dropped off the map of European pool around 99 or so. Good player, and a very cool guy. I seem to remember him either winning, taking second or third in a very big international event. I was not able to find it on Google.

AWESOME strokes!
I would give up sex to be able to draw like that.
(ok, i'm not getting any right now, but still....)

;)

Any advice that would get me closer to stroking the ball that good?
Please?

Darn tough for me. Is that a shot a lot of you guys can execute?
It's not possible. ;)

Actually, it's just a center ball pocket speed shot. No mystery here...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KXnVCoGuig (5 in a row)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JtYk-IoCCE (4 in a row - every pocket)

I shot these to prove a point a while back...
Thread 1 (I made it 5 in a row, and was called out by saying I was somehow "pullling a fast one"...)
Thread 2 (so I shot it in every pocket, with the camera rolling the whole time to show my table wasn't "flawed")

Thanks Edwin! That Low Left one is pretty unbelievable (but I believe)!

The slow roll is possible with just speed control. The draw one isn't too difficult... just make sure you get good draw and don't try to overpower the shot.

The draw is what gives the CB the initial direction angle after contact while the side english is what determines the exit angle from the rail. CB travel distance depends on shot strength. Follow through and let that cue slip a bit.

What works for me is to practice stroking at all different speeds. I used a liquor bottle, and started out stroking very slowly into the neck, and tapping the center of the back of the bottle.

I do ALMOST the same thing, only I take the bottle by the neck, invert it in my mouth and repeat until I "think" I can make that shot.....:)
