Eletric or air stapler. Which brand do you prefer? Gonna buy a new one this week wanted some input. Thanks. ALso where do most of you that recover tables buy you supplies. Cloth pluer, bees wax and such,Thanks

We use Craftsman hand staplers. Inexpensive and when they break sears replaces them. We also have some electric staplers but those are rarely used.

I use a Duofast model 5018a, shoots 1/4 to 9/16 in staples. I usally only use 1/4" for rails and bedcloth, but if the wood is soft or been recovered numerous times than I use a 3/8" or a 1/2"in staple to be sure they hold .

I have never used and air stapler ,another mechanic used to use one ,he swore by it. One thing tho they are noisy to work around and I would assume theres a little more maintanence required because you now have a stapler, compressor and air hose to work with.

I keep a craftsman hand stapler with me in case of technical diffculties or if the power goes out for any reason while I'm working. Both use the same staples.

I buy most of my supplies from Muellers , I buy blue waxsticks and square veneer shims from Billiardsexpress.com.

Duofast 5018A

I just got one but found it drove the staples too deep so I decided to use my old Arrow T-50 electric to get the Simonis on my Medalist. Is there a way to adjust the staple depth?

Yes, by feel. When I first started that was one of my worst fears, I barely knew what I was doing ,not making enuff slack in the pocket area, doing the middle pockets, the trickiest ones , I'd get it just about right and then #@%! damn I just put the staple thru the cloth.

Just let the gun rest on the rail or framed slate,do not apply any pressure,or very little, make sure its flat or it will kick one side of the staple out, It takes a while to get the feel of this gun but besides a few jam ups now and then it's a very reliable gun ,give it 2 small squirts of wd40 before every other use, one in the magazine area and one where the driver blade/plunger comes down.

Use the longer staples in the pockets(unless/until you can do them easily) and the 1/4" ones for the rails and framed slate. I have two of these guns ,one has about 900 tables on it and the new one has about 175 ,I keep the old one at my shop when I do rails there and I bring the new one with me.

I quit using electric staplers over 20 years ago, and wouldn't use one today of you paid me to. Air staplers are the best way to go. Anyone that's ever seen my set up...runs out and buys the same setup, then throw away the electric staplers.

I like the air staplers too. I just got a nice sized air compressor with my senco micro pinner(23ga). Bout 2 gal and it weighs about 20lbs. Nice and quiet in a clients home. It seems it would be a good match for an air stapler. Not sure how much flow a stapler would need for a table mech.

I use a Sears 1gal, 1/2hp air compressor, and carry with me a T-nailer,
1/4" crown stapler for doing repairs, as well as attaching pockets, and my 1/2" crown stapler for installing the cloth. On the cloth stapler, I hold the trigger depressed, then file off the firing hammer flush with the nose of the stapler so that no matter how much force I put behind the stapler pushing against the cloth...it can't sink the stables...can't do that with an electric stapler...LOL. If you get the 1/2" crown staplers from Harbor Freight, they're about $40. If you're stapling into oak, just turn up the air pressure, pine...turn it down...and so on.

Which Craftsman stapler

Which Craftsman hand stapler do you use. My Arrow T-50 just died. I was going to buy a duofast stapler (model 5018a). You don't wear yourself out with a hand stapler?

Glen uses an air powered stapler not a hand crank stapler that's way old school but a good back up.

I've never used anything but the Duo-Fast staplers and won two of them. Too expensive to make the switch and both are in great shape still. Billiard Wholesalers in Silvis, IL has great pricing. Other than this time of year, they generally ship same day so you receive your orders quickly:cool:

I've used a Rapid hand stapler for years. They cost $20 at West State Billiard Supply 1-800-266-8914, ask for Mike. He will also have everything your looking for. It's just as fast as air or electric.

I use Duo-Fast 3118 air guns. I have 4 of them. Very dependable guns. I buy my wax sticks and my liquid dowel from Conte Sales 1-800-327-7896.

We use it in 4 spots between the slate seams. It glues the slates together. Keeps slates from popping and getting call backs. Glenn uses super glue which pretty much the same thing.
