For those that don't know they can watch streaming of money matches on two tables live and re broadcasts just about 24 hours a day. You will see a lot of the champions, 2nd and 3rd tier players from there. Before and during major tournaments you will see top players from all over the world matching up...both male and female.
http://www.starbilliards.com.ph/ Enjoy. Johnnyt

Thank you!!!

thank you so so much for posting this link.......amazing...awesome...24/7 action....thank you...merry christmas

I feel I play pretty sporty then I watch these guys. Oh well I got to save some money up for lessons. ;)

I would love to go over, and see first had. Seems like they speak Spanish? I have been watching off and on all morning. Wonder if they play 1 Pocket?

Wow.... Is all I can say.... It's great to able to see how others play at the comfort of your own home or like me sitting at my desk at work....

The level of play is fantastic

It is a private club and you must be an invited guest to play there. It is primarily for the rising young stars and some of the veteran players to practice and match up. None of them pay time there, and even drinks are on the house. It is open every day and many young players are in there all day long. It is the defacto training ground for young talent in the Philippines.

Jay,

Your post just made me think of something. What percent of the top 100 PI players live in Manila? Im gonna take a stab and say 80? It would have to be helpful to have that many top players in one area to spar/gamble and overall raise the quality of play. The young players would grow and improve at such a quicker rate being around all the best everyday. I would think if we put the top 80 us players all in say Atlanta, over time the US players overall game would increase.

Maybe this is part of the reason PI has the best players in the world? Just brainstorming here...

The very good players eventually move to Metro Manila to make money when their action is all done in the small cities .
Andam, Orcullo, Gabica, Corteza and Gomez all came from the south of the islands.

They are speaking Tagalog, sprinkled here and there with some Spanish words.
The Philippines were once a part of the Spanish Empire and many Spanish words are still in use there. For instance the Spanish word for rail (cushion) in billiards is 'banda' and it means the same thing in the Philippines.

Although if you are a foreigner with an interest in billiards, you dont have to be a champion to play there. You will be more than welcome, even if you dont run out every time.

Ok, but Im sure they were quite a few notches below their current speed when they moved to Manila.

Imagine if US top 20 pros lived in Atlanta and as soon as a player around the country got to B+ or A- speed they moved to Atlanta. Imagine how quickly the overall quality of play would improve.

I guess my point is PI is the only country where almost all of the top players live in 1 city.

Thanks for the link, this is great. Gomez " Superman" is playing now in what seems like a small tournament. Races to 11. I've watched him play 2 matches now and his opponents have been great player whom I've never seen before. People wonder why there are so many great players from the Philippines. Things like this are a good example.

One of the reasons I watch it a lot is to see all the no name players that runout 10-ball like water. The safties and kicks are to be learned from. Johnnyt

Pretty much right on here. There are good players in other parts of the Philippines, but if they ever want to reach the top and get visas to play overseas they MUST come to Manila! It isn't easy getting a visa to play in the USA or Europe. You have to prove yourself first in the major filipino events and then in the Pacific rim countries.

No place I have been to compares to this:

Free Laptops to use!

Free calls to US!

Full time 2 streaming tables!

Country Club USA (probably about the same size room) which in it's prime may have been one of the top rooms in the country, had top players and lots of tables and tournaments, but nothing to support players like this.
