Stealing cueballs

Even with a camera it would be tough to track down, not? It gets pretty busy, you'd have to watch a lot of footage to find someone swap the cueball, then you have to identify them. Then you have to approach them about it. You would really have to catch them in the act.

I don't think real pool players steal cueballs, imagine if you got caught.
It sounds like a real problem, but if they are that busy and they charge enough for drinks,
the cost of a few cueballs isn't going to kill them.

On the plus side, at least you get to play with new cueballs all the time.
Maybe they can buy cueballs in bulk and minimize their loss per week.

Real simple. Like one poster already kinda said...Anytime someone wants to use a table they have to leave a valid ID or Credit Card just like for a tab, to get the cueball. When they bring the SAME cueball back, they get their collateral back.

Like the man says - it's real simple. Probably the best and easiest way to do it. Otherwise, contact Abu Abadiah ("It'sTheBombMan@AOL.com) on the Gaza Strip. He'll make you a cue ball that will explode if it leaves the premises.

To begin with: make a log sheet. Every hour or half hour, check the cue balls. Note it in the log -- whoever checks has to initial. Find out when the balls disappear. Maybe the janitor is taking them.

You can set up some cameras discreetly without spending too much money. Just don't make it known to the customer base because information like that travels like wild-fire in the pool room.

I agree, leave the mud ball as the default cue ball for the tables since no one bothers stealing those. Post up a notice, premium equipment (Aramith cue-ball) is available behind the counter; feel free to ask for $20 deposit or ID. This will accommodate both the casual shooters, hard core players who demand better equipment, and re-coup the cost if the cueball gets lost or stolen.

One of the local poolhalls offers two sets of balls, regular and Centennials, catering to their customers. They give out the regular set, and keep the Centennials behind the counter (you have to specifically ask).

If you have people stealing cue balls, my concern would be someone vandalizing the cloth.

I just bought a big box of pool balls from the 2nd hand store . looks like 5 or 6 sets of balls. I think I over paid, is 10.00 to much
already made a custom set of 8 ball foot pegs for a guys bike.
I was thinking of making a 8 ball shiter knob for my pick up.

it happens a lot here in PI. i've seen one incident where the thief got caught. they hammered his fingers (bridging hand) with the cue ball that he planned on stealing. it was a bit funny because he offered an entire set of balls just so they do not hurt him. they didnt listen. LOL.

....or set up some fake cameras so everyone can see.

Lots of people do this.

Tank, thats probably the best idea. I played at a place in Winnipeg that charged me $24 for the balls. You can turn them in for a refund or sell them to the next person for that much. Charge them a 10 for the cue ball.

If you are paying even 10 for the cue ball, you are going to keep your eyes on it.

Just find someone that sells black cueballs, or contact an Aramith dealer to get your own logo imprinted on the balls.
