When playing 14.1 I find that my shaft and hand become sticky,it causes me not to be able to keep my bridge tight. I wash my hands and its fine for a short time. I have cleaned the shafts and used powder and it is once again temporary. Anybody have a common and sensible remedy. Really don't want to use a glove but will if I have to

Keep a slightly damp brown paper towel from the restroom handy. It will remove the sticky from your hands and shaft at the same time.

You could be gangster and wrap your shaft in a hundred dollar bill and use it between your hand and your shaft

I have the same problem and agree with the towel thing to, also when you wash up use cold water. It helps close your pores, someone had suggested it on here before and helps me.

I carry a small (travel sized) plastic bottle of hand sanitizer and a small towel. Whenever my hands feel sticky, dirty or greasy I use a small amount of the hand sanitizer rubbing it all over my hands, then wipe it off and dry with the towel. I then quickly wipe down the shaft with the towel, and I'm good to go.

Try it, I think you'll like it.

Sticky shaft and hands...Solution?

Washing your hands (final rinse with cold water), then dry them throughly. Use a slightly damp cloth or paper towel, (not dripping), to quickly wipe down the shaft. Immediately wipe it dry with either a dry paper towel or dry cloth (micro fiber ?). If the shaft has been treated with a finish that helps keep it slick, reapply it occasionally as needed.

You might try BioSilk or FX Silk Drops. They are available in the hair care section of many pharmacies. Rub a bit on your shaft and buff with a dry paper towel etc.

No chemicals needed. They all get sticky.

The towel ideas work fine. I carry eye-glass cleaner toweletts with alcohol that evaporates and if necessary use them on my hands and then on the shaft drying with a rag/towel/paper towel.

I swear these are the same as cue silk. Smell the same too. This what I use.

Another vote for the hand sanitizer.

I squirt some on a paper towel and clean my shaft with it.

After doing so, I allow it to dry, which doesn't take long... and then burnish the shaft with a small piece of tanned leather, which helps to close the pores in the shaft wood.

And absolutely stop using powder. It's not necesary if your hands and shaft are clean.

stop using gymnastics chalk to play pool for starters......

second keep your hands clean

unless you have a sweaty hand problem your issues will disapear by following the two above ideas.

Learn to play with a glove. I have very sweaty hands and after I started playing with a glove I never had a sticky shaft again. You got to wash the glove every now and then though... :)

If you havent sanded it at all since production,(custom or production cue) you will need to take some of the finish off of the shaft. A lot of people say its the worst thing you can do with you shaft because it wears your shaft down but they are idiots, your not even getting into the wood just take a FINE paper to get lacquer off and then go through with an EXTRA FINE , when you sand it dont let the wood get hot( that is not good) take your time and after sanding take a piece of leather and rub the whole shaft like you would with sandpaper which closes the pores you opened up.. you may even wanna do this a couple times. If it is humid you arent going to get away from stickiness, which is why you keep a glove in your case for those times.

That is a commonly believed myth. The fact is, you cannot open and/close your pores by using cold and/or hot water.

Opening and closing your pores would require constriction of muscles. There is only one muscle in your pores. It is attached to the end of your hair strands and when it pulls your hair, it makes the hair stand up and you get a goose bump. Cold or hot water might make you get goose bumps, but it won't and can't close or open skin pores.

Ask any dermatologist worth his weight in Master chalk.

I see you are new so you probably don't know that on this forum we don't call people names. It's just not acceptable. Welcome to azb. It's a great place. :)

I use a little sandpaper/mesh cloth once in a while, in about 1000 to 2000 grit and then wipe off the dust with a paper towel and then burnish the hell out of the shaft.. like 100 strokes. I'll burnish frequently.. every other day maybe.. so the shaft stays very polished.
