Still steamed about a cue deal......

We all have our favorite section on AZ, mine happens to be the Wanted/Forsale, but I cruise through the other ones occassionally.

Tell me what you think about this. I saw a cue that I was interested in, and sent a note telling the owner I was interested in trading mine plus cash.

He noted that he would be interested what did I have in mind? I replied, my cue and $800 cash, but only if we used escrow (I offered Marcus, or Scot Sherbine and offered to pay the extra for the escrow).

He said no he wanted $1k plus my cue, and I offered to split it at $900 and use Marcus. He said, "Deal, send the cue to Marcus" and I said, "I would give Marcus a heads up they are coming."

This morning I come into work with my cue boxed up and check my email and he has backed out of the deal.

I left my first negative feedback, and I am still steamed. I feel when I give somebody my word, it means something, but to others their word does not.

I always offer buyers from me money back guarentee (less shipping). But when I make a deal, I stand by it. Seems like when I sell anything someone always offers more 10 minutes later, I never back out, or renig or change. My word is my word.

Oh well, I have a clear conscious, but I wish the children would leave the site.

Not that I agree with having done what this person did. But it is a part of the barter system, almost like a silent auction. Does it suck? Absolutely! Do I think you got hosed? Most certainly! Am I surprised to hear this? Not at all.

Good luck with your future endeavors and I hope your next AZ deal goes well.

I agree

Don't fret. Sometimes it's not just children, sometimes it just your "typical" pool player. I do agree and follow the same mode. My word is bond. Keep the faith.

Ken,

I agree with you 100%. If you make a deal, the deal should be done, not continue to be shopped if that is in fact what happened. If it was for cash, trade, or whatever - if it was accepted it should be honored. IMHO

I feel for you.

Agreed, a person is only as good as their word....

On the positive side, it cost you zero dollars to write this guy off.....I have found the easiest way to get rid of people you don't like is to loan them money, then you never see them again :D

a mans word

Ken, by any chance you older ? Probably done a few business dealings. Like you my word is my bond. I tend to back it up even if it costs me. That is what we call old school. Handshake and a mans word used to mean something. It is a mes first world anymore. Dog eat dog and screw the other guy before he screws you. Welcome to the year 2009. Sorry it has become this way, but it is what it is.

well I backed out of a deal last week. Hurt my back and wasn't (and still not) sure I'd be playing much anytime soon. Seemed foolish to buy a cue, and then have it sit for who knows how long.

I did say I would buy it if the other buyer didn't want it, and meant it. Still backed out of a done deal though.

Has happened the other way too, where I was holding a cue for a couple weeks waiting on payment. Turned down lots of offers. To me I don't care if its a day or two, but does become a hassle if its two weeks and broken promises.

That is one of the reasons for having to mark your pocket and even then it cannot be with chalk, coins and etc.

This is why I am such a champion of supporting those who DO keep their word and have ethics. They are the ones who deserve our business.

Yes, I guess I am older....45 with 2 daughters in college.

Dont get a dime from the finiancial aid, or anything else, (I applied) just out of my pocket and let me say it hurts.

Keep them in school:) And heh, it hurts now (for me it was about 8-9 years of hurt - I put 3 kids through without any financial aid or scholarship $). One year I had to come up with tuition for all three- let me tell you that was a rough year. Now, they are all married, happy, and make a hell of a lot more $$ than me so I feel I have been successful. And yes, your word is your bond and as a cuemaker just say I have been there.

Ken, I wasn't referring to your deal or who you dealt with, I was only speaking in general. I can see how you would read it as commentary on your deal, so sorry about that.

Actually I was thinking about people who would risk buying a cue from a total moron like Eddie Wheat rather than a Keith Josey. Or send their cue to Aaron Painter to save $5 versus sending it to someone with a real reputation for customer service. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

I am the one cubswin abacked out of a deal on. You know, he replied to me explaining what had happened, and did state if I couldnt sell the cue he would buy it. You know, things happen in life. I didnt have any control over him hurting his back, and to be honest, if i would have told him to stick by the deal, I would have felt bad about it! We cant control what goes on in the other persons life, unfortunatelt things happen. To me, cubswin responding like he did in our situation made me think that much more of him! I wouldnt have any problem doing buisiness with him again!

Ken, I would just let it go, ya cant control what someone else does. Just be thankful that you didnt lose out in the deal. I understand its frusterating, but I am happy for your sake it happened the way it did, and we arent hearing about how you got ripped off....

Best of luck Ken

I put myself through 7 years of college and I didnt take a dime from my parents.
Except for 1 PELL loan of 600 bucks I didnt get take any financial assistance.
I own it. It is mine. The only individual I have ever been beholding to is myself.

While I think its nice to pay for your childs education I witnessed so much loss of personal wealth because the recipients of the educational money had no respect for what they were receiving and ended up getting their parents deep into hock for no success in return.

Ken,I may have missed it somewhere but I would like to know for future reference that it's someone I dont want to deal with.If you dont want to make it public, although IMO,it should be,would you Pm me the culprit?

Oh, I paid for 3 bachelor degrees but between the 6 (kids and kid-in-laws) they have 4 masters which they paid for:wink: and they all knew the cost -- so they didn't waste it - like I said I am fortunate.

When the ground rules are etched in stone the you can generally expect a high rate of return on the investment.

Congrats on your success in raising your children and their success in life.

I couldn't put myself through college even if I tried. My tuition is simply too friggin high. I take 15 credit hours of classes, and work 12 hours a week, spend 1 to1 and a half hours total to commute to and from campus because I live at home to save money, so I'm pretty sure it's not because I'm lazy. It's just impossible to come up with 5800 a semester when you're earning 7.75 an hour :D

Thankfully, my parents are covering my tuition. God bless them. I repay them in my own little way by maintaining a high GPA. Hopefully after 2 more years (I came in with soph status due to 28 hours of AP Credit), I will graduate and save them a year's worth of tuition, and then curry some favors with a professor and get my grad school tuition waived.
