Straight pool escape

So I'm playing a straight pool match with one of the best road players ever, on the tightest Diamond table I've ever seen. He has already run 3 racks when he is faced with the following breakshot. Not ideal at all, but he claims it's going to be a "hanger."

He misses the pack the first go 'round, but since the ball was hit at warp speed it goes back and forth (9 foot table), touching the short rail THREE TIMES and then hits the pack (albeit softly) near the end of it's travel.

He seems to have no shot (top table), but says, "no, we've got action" and calls the 5 in the corner (2 rail kick at the 5, 5 then caroms off the 9 into the corner - see bottom table). The 5 and 9 are not all that close together, just about as shown.

I couldn't believe it, I thought FOR SURE I was going to be shooting soon, but he hit it dead solid perfect, 5 going dead in the middle of the pocket, then got through this rack and another before missing (though there were severe distractions in the form of toddler's in the room).

Makes you want to keep the day job

Williebetmore...If I was playing offensively, I'd have three-rail kicked the 3-ball in, before shooting the kick-carom on the 5-ball. Way less variables to deal with, and a better chance of pocketing the ball, imo. So what was the total run? Are you gonna tell us who it is?

SL,
Actually I doubt the 3 ball was right there (he's a 3 rail monster - taught me a tremendous 3 rail system). Hell, all I can really remember is there was no shot (I didn't photograph the table) except the "lucky kick."

I think the run was in the 70's somewhere (I'm not sure, I was just bummed out about not shooting).

Anyone who wants to know who it was just PM me - I respond to all non-anonymous posters (and those that I know personally - except for the mentally deranged like breakup).

G-man,
Well, you got the first part right (the blatant disrespect part).

The second part, we'll never know. We quit when he missed. I'm certain I could have hit him with a 200 or 300 (though my high run in that particular match was closer to 3 than 300).

Having played straights with Willie I'm quite sure it would have been something in the 300s unfinished of course.

SPIU,
Thanks for the sentiment; unfortunately you've obviously had one ladle too many.

OK Willie, I see now you have stooped to putting people on your payroll. I’m sure you will have a gaggle of young girls screaming like at a Beatles concert when we play at DCC.

Don, have they switched their table over to the IPT cloth?

Timberly <---knows who he was watching play. Can't say he was playing against the person cause all he did was spectate. Welcome to my world Don. :D

breakup,
TOTALLY FALSE!!!!! I have NEVER, NEVER, NEVER paid a gaggle of girls to applaud (but its a hell of a great idea, I'll look into it).

T-girl,
No, still the 860 Simonis (filthy from overuse at this point).

P.S. - Speak for yourself on the playing time. In 12 hours of pool, I'm sure I got to shoot for AT LEAST 15 or 20 minutes. You make it sound like I'm just racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...and racking and watching...

P.P.S. - In the evening session with the lesser player, I was behind 76-71 (or something like it) when we had to quit. I'm usually outscored about 4:1.
