Streaming etiquette in chatroom.

How many have logged in to chat stream and found 10 or more in the room. The two players are strangers to you but they play well and you'd like to know who you're going to watch. You look on the screen to see if the names are up…they are not. You ask in the chat who they are and wait a few minutes while people are chatting away. You get no answer to your "hi all" or your question. Me? I leave. Am I the only one that feels this way? Johnnyt

The problem is, before you logged into the chat, how many times was that same thing already asked and answered. The same questions are asked so many times it is sort of ridiculous, although sometimes maybe unavoidable. Who is playing, where are the brackets, who is left, where is this event at, what are the payouts, etc., etc. The biggest thing I would recommend to the streamers is to edit their ustream broadcast page for every event and include a description of the event, races to what, and a link to the brackets. Of course my impression is most of the people in the chats wouldn’t even bother to look at it, but that is a different story. I am amazed by how many ask what event this is and where it is at. Is it because they are linking in from other non-pool ustream streams?

That said, I love to see all these streams. Not much pro pool comes to Chicago. This weekend you got the TX and FL Opens, Lee vs. VV, and the World Cup all streamed live!

I've got to say, I've been afforded the opportunity to spend a good number of hours over the last couple months with Johnny in the chats of lots of different live events and he is one of the nicest and most respectful guys I've met.

Johnny, I run into that occasionally as well. When I run into that it's mostly the smaller rooms where the guys playing are buddy's or running partners with the folks in chat. I don't ever pay it much mind.

Respect has been lost in the internet age. I must admit, this forum maintains a good bit of what I remember being taught from a young age.

Don't sweat it Johnny you keep doing what you do. If some 20-something in a chatroom doesn't want to even acknowledge a man of your character....to hell with 'em.

Keep asking until you get an answer. If you were interested in the match, you should ask a few times and actually stick around. I know many times, it is not because people are ifgnoring you, but so many people are chatting that your question could be pushed up off the chat box and it would not likely be read.

An acknowledgement, if responded to, seems to lead to more answers.Works for me.

Try logging in with a name other than Johnny...you will get better responses.

;)

I gave up on the chat rooms. I end up spending more time chatting than watching pool. And.. there are the usual big-mouth dominating smart ass verbal bullies to fade, just like at the ph.

When there are commentators... It's the one sided open mic conversations that make me turn it right off. That coupled with no info... not for me.:boring2:

I agree. I still enjoy AzBilliards livestreaming chat sessions, mainly because the chatters, if that's a word, are civil to each other. There is generally a friendly colloquy going. I enjoy it.

Some of the other chat sessions I participated in with other livestreams were vulgar and not something I wanted to be a part of.

The AzBilliards chat sessions are the exception to the rule, IMHO!

This is an EXCELLENT thread, BTW. If the conversations in the livestreams were different, it may attract more viewers, but who the heck wants to go to a livestream where there is vulgarity, private conversations going on with the commentators who seem to ignore the chat participants, and the outright bullying of multiple-identitied trolls.

It is the difference between a moderated forum and an unmoderated forum. While there are some folks who do enjoy vulgarity and causing hurt and/or anger and unmoderation to its fullest extent, I think they are the minority. The majority of folks, thankfully, that I have befriended in pool don't partake in this kind of behavior on the Internet.

johnny, don't sweat it my man! You must be referring to the free streams which can get cluttered with people who have no clue about pool or who is playing, etc..

The chat in these free streams can go so off course and such a rapid pace that sometimes valid questions get lost in the mix. Just send someone that you know, like me if I'm in there a private message and I'll let you know the details if I myself know them as I'm sure anyone else would do.

As for the chat on the whole, it is a great addition to the match itself. It allows conversation concerning the match-ups, lets people wager on several different things (see coinflip w/Roy, lol), and in general affords great conversation with people that you already know and interact with on a daily basis. It's basically just like being at the pool hall and sweating a match with all of your friends.

I do prefer the PPV chat over the free streams because it's a smaller group and all of the idiots are weeded out that don't really care about pool and would never buy a ppv. Not saying that all that don't partake in the ppv's are idiots, but there are some that go into the free streams and just cause havoc.

I know that myself, ktown, beav, etc.. have booted the same people from chat over and over again until our hammers are worn out ,lol.

A bunch of people in the same room talking at once

Chat rooms with more than a few people in them don't work for me. I might monitor them for a little while but usually I open the match to full screen and watch the match. I hate parties or meetings when there are a bunch of people all talking at once and that is the same feeling I get in a chat room. Often I find some of the comments unacceptable also but thankfully the chat room isn't my headache to moderate. I find it best to leave and let the kids of all ages play.

I guess I shouldn't let it get to me. You all know what a sheltered life I've led and how thin-skinned and sensitive I am. My feelings get hurt real easy. Johnnyt

You're quick as a cat but you could have at least give us the link for where all those Live-Stream links are located.

Just ask the Q again. Most of the time the people in the chat don't see the questions, if you ask it again then people are usually answered.

Or the because there is a delay in some streams, the announcers wont see the question right after you post it. It takes a while for the answer to get to the folks on the stream if there is a delay.

I usually don't even log in, then I go full screen and sometimes even mute. If I get involved with the chat, I miss too much of the action.

Scroll bars are awesome, I wish more streamers used them when possible.

I think Ray has the right idea when he flashes up ads during the racking - its excellent exposure for the sponsors, IMO. If he (or any streamer, for that matter) could flash up some match/tourny info in the same fashion, that might be helpful.
