The other man was Benny "The Goose" Conway from Kansas City. He played very close to "Omaha" John's speed on a bar table.
Gotta love it. Run 10 racks, then ask for a spot.

How many different cues did Doug Smith use during the set he played you?
He might have needed the spot but i reckon there were times when doug smith had the biggest gear going at least for that day
He was down in tx and got in a 9b game playing for something decent race to 7 won the flip and ran the set out. They did not play a second set next day the money brought in another player bigger kinda guy i heard he was mexican anyway they flip for the break race to 7 same money. Same thing happens doug runs the set out. The mexican tries to jump doug wow it was rough on the road back in the day
Doug Smith had the big gear on the bar box at one time you can believe that
He also had his own cueball which he usually negotiated into play
SAJ was and probably still is a VG bar box player but had trouble hitting the end rail on a big table the last time i saw him in action
enjoyable guy to shoot the shit with
John will send in the cash if he likes the game and plenty of it. I have seen him both win and lose and he takes both in stride. Also, he is capable of giving up some crazy weight, all a guy has to do is make a request watchout you just might get what ask for and be able to bet something. A C player can get more from John than from most any other roadman. I reckon most of the real good players or better have the best of it on the big table but John still plays a pretty good speed on the bar table. About 8 ball, he don't play no silly games he gets a rail or gives up BIH, but he is pretty patient. John ain't no BS if he is in the room he will find some action any room gets hopping when John gets to town. I reckon he has about maybe 4-6 more weeks and he will done for this pool season cause these days John is a working man he will be rolling blacktop all summer till it gets cold in the late fall.

Yeah, like Buddy said "he'll never have to worry about a shot clock".
I do have a LOT of Strong Arm John stories, probably enough for a complete book. He took me out of high school on the road all through Mo, Ks, Ok, and Texas back in 83.
Then we tortured the SE Coast of Florida, maybe people have heard about my matches giving Mario the 7 OUT in Miami. Come to think about it I believe someone contacted me that they have it on video. Now that would be interesting, maybe put some commentary on top of it.
We went to Bellvue, Ohio and Doug played Tony Moshae (not sure of spelling of last name) father. Put 10 racks on his father on a race to 10 for a thousand. Then turned around a put 10 racks on Tony for the same. We had so much fun on the road back then. I wonder if John did not take every spring and summer off for softball how much better he would be? Oh yeah CJ I remember when he went a picked you up right out of High School. Someone should write a book about John's road trips and the matches he has been envolved in. The guy is an excellent reader of peoples game and speed. He was making a living out there when a lot of better players were sitting around busted.
If you really know him, he's an A Hole!!!
