The Jimmy Reid "All I know" is a good set with systems as is Joe Tuckers stuff and Dr. Cue (Tom Rossman) recently re-released his kicking and banking series on DVD.

With Books, The Banking with the Beard by Freddy Benivenga (SP?) is excellent

Thay are all good

I agree with Dave. Ron has the best info on kicking and banking. You live in Connecticut so if I were you I would make the trip to see Ron in person. Trust me you won't regret it!!!

Our 2nd dvd, Play Better Pool, Vol. 2, "Taking Your Game to the Next Level", has some great info on the diamond system, and shows you how to accurately kick 1, 2, and 3 rails. You can pick it up from me at the SBE, if you're there. Otherwise, you can order it from Muellers (www.poolndart.com), or amazon.com.

search for dead aim's kicking academy

Excellent suggestion. "Dead Aim" is an AZ user, search on "Kicking academy" and you'll find a series of posts here in AZ describing many kicking systems, including several 'diamond' systems.

systems

Robert Byrne's New Standard Book of Pool and Billiards devotes the last half to billiards and various systems. His Advanced Techniques book spends about a third on billiards. Both are great.

CueJunkiee,

I like your idea of trying to learn another aspect of the game to improve your playing abilities.

However, my experience of trying to use the diamond system on a pool table is difficult and frustrating at best, given that there are so many different types of table, rubber and cloth, not to mention the impact of humidity, heat, dirty balls, etc.

For example you could easily spend many hours perfecting a diamond kicking system on a gold crown, only to pull your hair out on a Diamond table.

My suggestion to you (without dismissing the credibility of valid diamond systems) would be to forego learning those diamond systems and simply spend 1 or 2 hours a week on just kicking 1, 2 and 3 rail kicks/banks on the table that you play most of your games/tourneys.

I think that you will be pleasantly surprised with the results.

(P.S. I should add, conversely, in 3 cushion billiards, many players have dramatically improved there game by employing various simple and very complex diamond systems. There are world 3 cushion champions that play mostly by systems, and yet others who are totally "feel" players that never use the diamonds).

Thanks.

Bernie P.

i kinda agree with you on the different tables cloth etc..... i do practise <well when i was playing alot anyhow> and can kick well 2-3 rails at just about anything.... BUT the guy i have always played with has his 'little system' and can bang anything by counting/adding/subtracting diamonds.... so i figure with my kicking skills combined with his 'mathmatical' skills i can really step up the game...
he's shown me a little, but now he is unable to play at all, so my search moves on.....

Yet another testimonial of one of the top ten reasons why every player
should read Bob Byrne's books.

In fact, most all tables vary, some, from rail to rail - and climatic conditions vary.

Bob explains quite well that any 'system' is only a starting point, and
one needs to adjust as required.

I agree with Dave. Ron V has the best collection of various diamond systems. He is worth every penny.

its easy. break it donw into %. 0% being the corner 50% side and 100% other corner. to get for 0% to 100% hit 50%. adjust from there

half table same thing. 0%-25%-50%-75%-100%

to get from 0% (corner) to 100% (side) pocket hit 50% middle diamond.

As well as all of the other excellent suggestions, a no nonsense book I picked up as a suggestion from a pool and billiard forum was Desmond Allens' 1 Rail, 2 Rail, 3 Rail, More . It might have been renamed as Win at Pocket Billiards .
