Got here this afternoon, and as we were unloading our bags from the car, up walks Johnny Archer and Jeremy Jones, who just flew in. Players and vendors are arriving and settling in.

Sugar Shane from Pittsburgh, Keith, and I checked out Chumley's, where they're going to have the Meet and Greet at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The bartender and hostest are aware of the gathering and will reserve a space for the gang.

Greg Diamond is here. He said he set up 167 bar tables for the various tournaments. However, the pro event is using 9-foot Brunswick GC's.

Vendors are flocking in by the carload. I saw Tony Chohan, and everybody in his group were wearing that Hustlin' brand of clothing. I'm definitely going to get me a hat and shirt in black.

Mike Massey is here, and we congratulated him for his Hall of Fame award. He's here with his lovely wife, and they were checking in the Radisson.

Well,we're off to the players meeting at 6:00 p.m. Will post more later.

Hey jam, you have any idea how many azb'ers are going to the
chumley's thing? I'm definitely going to valley forge - and
I may need to take a break from getting robbed to go check it
out :)

Egg, there's about 20 to 30 expected from AzBilliards and about the same amount of folks from CCB.

Keith McCready plays Tony Robles at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow. The tournament is seeded with 16 UPA touring pros. There are eight tables in the pro event arena, and the pockets are DOUBLE-SHIMMED!

Jose Parica was supposed to be here, but called and said he couldn't make it.

I met Markus from Germany and snapped a picture of him and Thorsten Hohmann. Hohmann said they spelled his name wrong on his player's name tag, and he had to have it changed because it said "Holhmann," which in German means a hallow person or a nitwit.

We're gettin ready to check out the action table, which is supposed to be set up at 8:00 p.m. tonight. Action is on the horizon. ;)

Good to hear!

My new wife, my apprentice Brian and I drove all night and arrived here about noon. We're settling in tonight and getting some rest here in the Scanticon. Nice rooms, I might add, even if we pay 3 prices for them! First time I had a room where my wireless laptop got free high speed internet in the room! That's pretty cool instead of having to go throught the hotel switchboard with the dial up! I'm hoping it also works down in the convention area!
I'll be in booth 45 of the ACA section, right next to the pool table. Stop by and say hi!

I spoke to Rodney a couple days ago and he said he would not be at Valley Forge. He dislocated his finger at the Hilton event and it is still not healed. He and the Mrs are also expecting their baby in the next week and he wanted to be there for that.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! The McCready camp is hoping for a little luck of the Irish when Keith faces Tony Robles at 2:00 p.m. in the pro event.

Shannon Daulton has to play Johnny Archer at noon. Last night, the Irish eyes smiled on Keith as he had several good runs on the action table, which drew players like Brandon Ashcroft, Maryland Young Gun Shawn Wilke (last year's BIG action table winner), Shannon, Mark Adod and Tony Chohan from Califoria, and Chris Szuter, just to name a few. It was a warm-up for a lot of players. There were dozens of bar boxes downstairs engaged in matches between folks getting in stroke for the big week ahead.

32-year-old Shannon Daulton mentioned to me that the stork is due to pay a visit at his household in about one month with a brand-new baby girl, his very first born.

I'm looking forward to checking out the vendors today. Last night, they were still setting up their booths, and there's hundreds of them upstairs and downstairs. I can't wait to see it all. We're looking for a new cue case, something lightweight and easy to handle.

I got a great picture of Gary "Bushwhacker" Nolan, who told me he runs a pool room in Indiana, Pennsylvania, now.

At the players' meeting, Scott Smith, who is the official TD for the pro tourney, announced that there is going to be another Skins tournament in October of 2005.

Our room is beautiful. Not only is there a separate living room area, but we've got a jacuzzi in the bathroom, too. It sure is a luxury being able to stay at the Scanticon hotel, one of the two hotels on site at the Valley Forge Convention Center. Most folks are lodging are nearby facilities.

Going downstairs to go shopping. Will report back later with some updates.

I'd never bet against an Irishman on St. Patty's Day, especially Keith. I hope he does well against Tony. Sounds like you guys are having a great time. Tell Keith I said hi.

Hi, Blackjack! Last time you sent a good luck wish to Keith, he had a nice finish at the U.S. Open. I'm sure hoping this works today for Mr. McCready on St. Patrick's Day! Keith sends his best regards to you, too. We're going to need the luck of the Irish today. :p

Anybody know who drew Mark Tadd ...

Claude Rains perhaps ?

Dave, who wants to thank JAM for her excellent posts, the various insights convey a lot of the atmosphere which is hard to get from the brackets !

IRISH EYES
or not, 10-7 over TR is a pretty impressive win for Keith. ;) Congrats, and keep those updates coming JAM :D

My Irish eyes are smiling: Keith won his first match. I was tense watching the beginning of the set when the score went 1 to 1, 2 to 2, 3 to 3, 4 to 4. In the alternate break format, though, I think it's to Keith's advantage. When he did break today, he was pocketing balls. Tony was very gracious and allowed me to take his picture downstairs. Tony Robles and Jennifer Baretta are putting on an exhibition which is a new pool game incorporating dice, poker, and billiards. They drew quite a large crowd.

Jimmy Reid was playing Bill Ferguson, and Jimmy was behind 4 to 1 and began bickering a little bit about how his table was playing. At one point between games, Jimmy noticed the side pocket was looking a little large in his mind, larger than normal. Bill won four games in a row, and Jimmy got up to rack his turn, paused, and checked out the side pockets. Jimmy noticed the slate peaking out on the far side and tucked in short on the near side. He thumped the rails, and the nuts and bolts fell to the floor, to include all nine balls. The audience got a kick out of it. Reid, behaving like the perfect gentleman, suggested to move to a vacant next table, and the match went on. Jimmy ended up losing on a hill-hill, 10-9.

Shannon Daulton and Johnny Archer got to the hill-hill. It was Johnny's break, and although I did not see it, I heard the cheering in the hallways. Keith said Johnny made it on the break for the win. It was a hard-fought war.

This is a tough field here in the pro event. I can't wait until 9:00 for Round 2.

Congrats on his win over Robles. Tell him to remember the B.C. Open where he knocked 'em all off one at a time and we tried to bet it all in the finals with Lebron. Lebron froze and Keith demolished him 11-3. We won 25 large and that was twenty years ago.
We were making more than, then you can make today in tourneys. It's always good to win though. I'll be following his results in this one. My advice to Keith, now that the tournament has started: get plenty of rest, avoid the action room and take 'em one at a time. Oh and one last thing (this has always been a problem for Keith). Slow down just 10% and you'll never miss a ball. That extra moment of concentration makes all the difference.
