SVB v Orcollo

They(Sharks) have made it clear that they want to reduce the break's role. I like good defence as much as the nxt player but to artificially create more of it is beyond lame in my book. I pretty much quit paying attention to Shark matches since this new rule.
Is that the sames rules as the traditional Texas 9 ball rule where it is mandatory to push out after the break ?

It's an interesting change from the normal rules, the Accu-Stats arena matches had rules like this. I have to say they are about as equal in fairness as any other breaking rule and more so than many. What it does do is take away a set of skills in breaking and getting a shot after the break from a player. It's a bit like saying "well these players are really good bankers, so we will just make a rule for this event that no banking is allowed to take away their skill".

I would not put these types of matches into an idea of who the better overall player is though since it's more of a socialist way of doing things, you are good at something when the other is not, so you are not allowed to use your better skill for your benefit to make the activity more even.
In a long race people want to see packages. It's the only way there's a threat of a big comeback.

Personally, I don't care for the monster break and easy run. I'd rather see a tactical game with tight pockets and lots of safety play. IMHO, there's nothing more boring than watching a top pro making two balls on the break and running a wide-open rack. The only rule I would change is mandatory push after the break (don't allow the safety).

yes, if they want more tactical play, tighter pockets is the way to go. a diamond or rasson table would be better for their pro matches. thing is they also have amateur events frequently so i guess they need to find a balance, or have two tables. the push rule is boring imo.

The rules suck, not a fan of this. The funny thing is the last time they went hill-hill with SVB squeaking out a win so not sure why this rule set was necessary.

Sharks has been hosting top international pro's to play the top Filipino pros for about one year now. All the matches have this format. It wasn't changed only for Shane/Dennis. They are all exhibitions, not gambling.

Is it a race to 63 like the prior matches? I couldn't find that info anywhere? Maybe its a race to 90 since it was 30 the first day instead of the usual 21?

Oh, they are gambling you can BET on that. May not be official but the Filipino's don't take a dump without betting on its size. ;)

From the YouTube teaser. This is the first of three match ups.

I guess what they have must be working for them, since they have not changed it in a year.

Personally, if there was not a 2 min timeout after every single rack, and there was an audience, it would be watchable. Even with the push/safety rule.

Move these matches to the street with the chickens and the side bets every break, regular 9 ball rules, and that would be a winner, IMO.

I'd like to watch winner-break races to 25 on well broken-in cloth. No goofy ass rules meant to artificially 'spice up' the game. Play best of 5/7 set matches. The break is part of it. Don't like B-n-R's play 14.1/1p.

When the score was 18-12 DO and he was shootin' at the one ball, he chose the wrong way to go, shoulda clipped/banked the r/s of the one, put em both on the long rail. You want your opponent Rolling whitey into an area with ball clusters.

If you want to do something interesting...

Spot all balls made on the break in numerical order. This would add A LOT of tactical play while NOT punishing a player for a good break quite as drastically.

HUH??????? Its just as bad. You line them up and basically have no shot other than a safety. Might as well just have the ref dump the balls out and alternating ball in hand to start. At least you might see some runs.

Figures the Shane nuthuggers have the excuses ready from the start. So predictable
Seriously? Has nothing to do with that. Have you watched one second of this? The format is a joke. It makes the break meaningless. Go challenge the best 9b/10b you can find and tell him you'll match up but his break doesn't mean shit. I can hear the laughter from here.
