SVB vs Corey D racking issue

I was just watching SVB playing Corey in the semi finals of The Four Bears 9 ball event and Shane got mad at Corey for something and slams the balls and forfeits the match.

Not sure exactly what happened but Corey checks Shane's rack and something makes Shane mad and he unscrews his cue and walks away and quits.

here is the video it happens after Shane breaks on the 2nd game lol

I wish we could have heard the conversation. I didn't see any issue with what Corey did.

My guess - In a smaller event such as this, it would seem to me a matter of respect / etiquette between two top pro players, that if one player doesn't check his opponent's rack, the other player should reciprocate. Cory immediately got up to check Shane's first rack, after Shane had not checked Cory's first rack.

In addition to that, on a bar table with what appears to be big pockets, and an alternate break format, when scratching on the break, SVB knew he likely was going to be down 2-0 with Cory's turn to break the next rack, so he was going to be facing a considerable uphill battle to win this match anyway. Obviously he wanted to make a point to Cory exactly what he thought of his checking his racks, in that situation. Can't really say I blame him for being a little upset.

It appears SVB is a little sensitive. Anyone know of what the recent history is between these 2 players regarding racking or any other disagreements?

I watched most of their match last night and it seemed like Shane broke and ran all of his breaks from what I saw and Corey never checked the rack. Maybe he was curious?

Who knows but I think anyone has the right to check opponent's rack when rack your own. It shouldn't be if he doesn't, then I shouldn't either.

When it gets down to the final two or three matches, they should have referees racking the balls...even in weekly Mickey Mouse tournaments.

The racking shenanigans are getting old. It is happening way too frequently and by some of the world's top players.

Also, races to 7 on bar tables are COMPLETE JOKES for players of their caliber. Alternating break is even worse.

In the times I've had refs rack balls, the racks were not very good. I'm sure both Corey and Shane rack much better than any ref would.

I don't think any racking rules trump the "sit in your chair while your opponent is shooting" rule. Intelligent planning would have simply made a rule before the tournament about whether or not you may check your opponents rack.

Winner breaks on a bar table among pros seems meaningless. It isn't at all an uncommon thing for pros to run 7 on a bar table. This means shorter race winner breaks rests on the assumption that the lag is the most important shot in all of pool, because that is where the importance is placed in that format.

I gotta say there was a running joke at the expo from some of the pros about SVB not having a chance at winning because he couldn't touch the balls during the rack.
 
If you watch Shane racking you can clearly see he is touching many if not all the balls:confused: Then he spins the balls that his hands can touch while holding the rack trying to roll them into a tight placement:yes: After that the crafty devil lifts the rack up and off the balls:mad:

Its no wonder he conceded after Corey busted him using such shameless rack rigging LOL.
 
Unless we hear both Corey & Shane versions of what happened, all we can do is speculate. Sure makes one wonder why, though.
 
The TD need to say if its rack your own the opponent needs to sit their *** in the seat and stay there till its their turn.Rack your own doesn't mean tell your opponent how to rack.

The spur of the moment decision to sweep the balls may have been more about scratching on the break and knowing he'd be down 2-0 with Corey breaking in an alternate break format on bar tables. Then going to his chair thinking about what he'd done could have turned it into forfeiting the match...

who knows...

Is this the tournament where Shane had his room broken into?
....could be where the anger came from.
...knowing someone there was probably the culprit.

No different events Shane had his stuff stolen two weeks ago in Wyoming.

This was today at 4 Bears Casino Casino in North Dakota.
