Sweet Tooth Billiards-Glendale AZ

Mark,

It really depends on your out of pocket cost. If it only cost you for the tables, then you are in a winning spot. Everything after that is all profit for you. On the other hand, if you have to pay for rental space, you may be pressed to make enough to pay it. If you get to keep a % of the tables, plus a % of the food, the only cost you will have to recoup is the cost of the tables, plus the vendor licensing fee the city charges for each table, which probably isn't much in Gilbert.

The smart choice would be to go with Diamond Tables i would think. I like both, but personally, i think the Diamond is much more durable, easier to move, and will probably hold it value. The GC definately holds it's value too. As you know, many tourneys are going to Diamonds now.

Just my $.02. Hope it all works out for you, i'm all for more Diamonds in the valley of the sun.

Dennis
Ok, sounds good. I would not have any rent, just tables. So that might work out I just need to try and make sure that I have a steady group of higher end players that will play there. I know its too far for you or some of the other regular AZers to come on a regular basis but hopefully there are enough in the East Valley. I think I will continue to look into it. Thanks,

My thoughts....

Come on guys do you have any opinion on this ??

Mark,

Although Diamonds would be nice... they would probably be more expensive. If you go diamond... consider coin-ops. That would decrease the overhead on the bar, and it would give you control of $$ received.

If you do decide to do it.... do it right with good cloth and good lights. Keep the equipment clean and in good shape.... and you will be ok.

It would be sure nice if we could get a place around here that had big tables.
I know if i lived close by i would defiantely be a patron of a quiet establishment like that as long it had great equipment.

Carlos, thats the only way I would be able to do it. All great equiptment and very well maintained. Like I said I don't know how realistic it is but if we see anyone who can't play trying masse shots or jump shots they got to go even at the risk of losing $$.

Anyone that 's looking to open up something should look to N. Scottsdale (101 & Shea area). Lots of $$$ around that area and no competition for business. And the nearest 9 footer is either kolby's (15-20 mins south) Clicks (about same only S.W.) or River city (West) .......and for me personally, it wouldn't be too bad to be able to WALK to the pool hall either  or the option to stumble home afterwards:p

I hear ya on that one, as there is nothing over there. It's the same with me in Surprise. A few small bars with mediocre barbox or 2 and that is it.

I've even played at Maloneys by you and I think it was $1.50 per game and the barbox took dollar bills. No fun...

i feel your pain. 1.50 a game ??? that is insane

bfdlad honestly this IMHO is a terrible time to launch a new venture, as I have said before money is very tight, and as you know from your pool school in Arizona. The State of Arizona economy is hurting.

Maybe you need to make the rounds to some rooms/bars in your east side of town, this weekend to see how their business are doing before making the plunge.

I still question the wisdom of Sweet Tooth opening in these time without liquor, plus I was told last night by some one that was there. 1/2 of the Bar Table are the Diamonds everyone is excited about, and the other half or Dynamos.

I do not see the reason behind that as i think it will hinder tournament play having two brand of table for play. Kolby's use to have a Mix of Big Tables, and no they are all GC's that was a good move to have all the big table the same brand.

First off, you have a very skewed way of looking at things. I think that explains a lot about why you are the way you are. The only way to get better is to play better players in the heat of competition. You can practice all you want but you need to experience the situations or you will not know what to do when they arise.

Second, nobody should be kissing anybodys feet for anything. We all have our own reasons to be there. I am not donating to anybody. I am investing in my game. As a matter of fact the last DCT tourney I played in, although I didn't place in the money I still got money back.

Third, Trust you? I wouldn't trust you to match my socks up in pairs.

And finally, my goal is to be better than I was yesterday. Your biggest problem is you put a monetary value on everything. Some things may cost money but the experience has a much higher value then any piece of green paper.

BVal

Actually I may understand the value of the dollar I have to personally spend better than you do as I live on my investments, that have shrunk in value. Thus unlike some people my income has also shrunk.

My bills come before fun, pool, or entertainment. that is the way I have live all my life.

You on the other had I believe work, and get a steady regular pay check that when I work alway was the same or more if I had OT.

If you have a job you are lucky as you only need to talk to others that have been cut back layed off, or the company they work for are folded.

BTW I have a regular playing partner, we play 4-5 afternoons a week, he plays a Medium 8 Speed, and he is making me better. FYI

That's exactly why you are in the shape your in.....(BROKE)

Too scared to make a move, or take a chance on anything. You'll never get anywhere in life with those thoughts, and actions. As you have already found that out.

It's sad to see people think like that. How are you ever going to know what you COULD have done, unless you try?

Don't you ever see anything good about anything?

'Half the tables are different'.....at least he's trying. It's not easy to open a new business with everything brand new. I'm sure after he makes a go of it, he'll upgrade accordingly.

It's actually a nice setup...

and I REALLY like it!!!

Mike did a great job with the layout. 4 Diamond BB are great for most tournaments.... and the other BB are good for any regular leagues and/or a larger tournament, along with giving the patrons some additional choices.

As to the timing of opening a new venture, quite often the best opportunities occur at the most inopportune moments. Any good business person takes advantage of great opportunities when they happen.

Tap tap tap to Mike.

Check it out.....it's a great spot!!

I sure hope people don't believe what you saying Rick S. as IMHO you are just making up a lots of BS.

As for my opinions about the economy, business, or what is going on in the State of Arizona those opinions are as I posted IMHO. Based upon what I see with my own eyes.

I don't walk or drive around with Rosy Colored Sunglasses, Singing Everything Is Wonderful, as it sure as hell is not IMHO.

BTW Rick S. did you see where the DOW has gone since or NEW President was Elected. Way Way Down. That is in Black & White.

As for the Sweet Tooth Bar Box Table situation, it was a subject of discussion at the tournament at the other night. The people who were talking about the "MIX" of tables all said it was not a good situation, and they would not play in a tournament with Half Diamonds, and Half Dynamos.

Maybe that is as I said when Kolby's got rid of the BRAD "X's" and when to ALL Gold Crowns, and Northern Lounge went to all Valley from a mix of Valleys, and Dynamos.

I understand your problem Rick S., you like many can not understand why people don?t think everything you think is wonderful is also wonderful.

NO ONE wants to hear...

an endless stream of negativity!! I would go so far as to say that the vast majority of people would remove themselves from being around someone as vitriolic as you are coco.

Since we all enjoy the website, we all need to play nice and get along. If someone wants feedback, by all means give it, they asked for it. On the other hand if you don't have something good to say, don't say it. Unsolicited negative comments just rain on everyone's parade. If you constantly need to feed your own unending need for negativity find another carmudgeon and you can piss on each other's shoes.

Do you ever know when to stop? Good grief.

As to those who respond to him....I just ask "why"?
I do apologize for my negative rant......but honestly sometimes it seems like a kindergarden playground in here.

I thought expressing one opinions were the allowed in the USA, and on AZB Forum. Like I have said I am expressing my opinions, many of witch are the same opinions of many other pool player I talk to weekly at Tournaments in Arizona, or to be more specific the Phoenix Metro Area.

I enjoy point, and counter point discussions, and most of my comment are backed up with facts, or as I say IMHO.

The back row of tables and the bar tables at Kolbys are perfect, the middle row will be redone,he did redo table 6 in tournament blue Simonis 3 weeks ago, looks great,he plans on doing them all in blue.

While on my travels I stopped in Main Street Billiards in Mesa a couple of weeks ago and I think they had the best tables out of any of the pool halls I saw. The gold crowns for gambling were tight and in great shape, they had a lot of bar boxes as well and was surprised that they were also in excellent condition. Does anybody know who does their tables?

Thanks

Would Guess would be Dave Clayton who is the BEST Table Mechanic in the State of AZ in many people opinions.

Thanks for the information. I am from California and Ernesto is a great table mechanic, but have to say that I was very impressed with the equipment at Main Street Billiards. Hats off to you Dave Clayton!!
