Synthetic tip?

You've never met my wife. If I took on another business venture, I'd be looking for a place to live, not a cue tip...

Seriously, though, I may look into it, but I don't have the resources or know-how to do it. Plus, I'd think the market would be sort of small. If it played better than the ones out there, that would be one thing. But if it only played the same, the only people that would want to use it would be people like me, and I'd be willing to bet I'm in the distinct minority...

But they wouldn't have many other options... ;)

Don't be too negative. Small scale production is easy. I have produced my own tips before using leather, even making laminated tips. It's actually not that tough. I would imagine some serious thought could produce some ideas to begin with. You don't need to go into business, just make enough for you & your buddies.

Yes, he put it out there but not to be discussed. It was just a reason that, inevitably would have been asked of him, if it was not in the original post.

What does the being a vegan have to do with billiards? He was not telling you or KJ to become vegans. He was not standing on a soapbox looking down on those who are not. He was simply asking for a synthetic tip. Why turn it into a lifestyle, ethical, or moral debate?

exactly right.i just hate seeing new guys get talked down to in this section and it seems to happen all too often.

It's something to look into, definitely. Going to see how the RAM tips work first though...

I was going to mention the Ram until someone else did it. I bought a box of 10 hard to see if they would make a good replacement for a break and jump tip. Even with the hard, I can push on the side with my thumbnail and leave a small indentation. It does go back to shape tho. I'm thinking, maybe try the soft tips for a start as the hard is exactly that, pretty hard.

They make a medium, so I think I'm going to get a medium on one shaft and a hard on the other and go from there. The hard durometer is pretty much the same as the LePro I have been using until now.

Time will tell I suppose...

Hey cosmo, good luck in your quest for a tip to fit your needs. It looks like you have some options.

I gotta admit, I think veganism is a bit odd and impractable. It was a part of the reason I clicked on this thread.

I am a big meat eater, and make no apologies for it. I agree with KC's post, but I do not understand why everyone just jumped all over this guy for looking for a tip to suit his needs.

If he would have started a thread " Vegan is the only right way of life" then I would be the first in line to respond. But "synthetic tip?" and btw it is because I choose to be a vegan, does not warrant an attack.

If I said I wanted to find a brown colored wrap, would I get attacked because black is clearly better? It is a personal preference. He did not even imply that it was a lifestyle for anyone else.

What if I was asking if anyone had a cue with a cross inlaid in the butt? Should everyone start checking to see if my lifestlye was good enough to own such a cue? I would only be looking for objective info, not making a case for one side or another. (maybe its for my grandma! )

Cosmo, great response about the jewish/pork thing. Kudos to you for at least attempting to actively live your beliefs. It is very easy to say " I believe in..... " it is much harder to live accordingly.

It is obvious that you love pool, and even mentioned the possibility of giving it up, if you could not find an alternitive that worked for you. I think that proves a comitment ( as well as many others you obviously do).

While we are on opposite ends of this issue, I respect that you do more than lip service to your position. Stay true to yourself.

I do know that this guy has put a lot more thought, effort, and sacrifice by living his choice, than I do when I order a cheeseburger!

You know what? My post shouldn't be here either. How hypocritical of me! Sorry:sorry:

I think everybody was more intrigued by veganism than actually bashing the guy. It's hard to ask questions without sounding rude, especially if you don't fully understand the subject to begin with. For most of us carnis, it seems absurd to take on a vegan lifestyle. Animals die whether we kill them or not, and animals dying in the wild die much more horrifying deaths than by our hands. It can also be said that plants & fungi are living organisms, too. Drill a hole into a tree & it's sap will bleed out until the tree dies, or the sap clots. Seems eerily similar to animals, huh? Growing a field of tomatoes is like raising a field of cattle, and we feed them both growth hormones & load them with chemicals to keep disease away. My point is, it's easy to get confused about why somebody would choose such a lifestyle, and it's intriguing. It naturally raises questions. So I don't think he was being bashed, just getting the third degree by everybody who does not understand his logic. I don't really think anybody feels he's less of a human for his choices, or would play a friendly set with him while drinking a beer. I just think it's hard to enquire about conflicting personal choices without causing friction.

Great!

How did they work out?

Assuming you see this message after all these years, if notifications trigger an email.
12 years is a long time to verify what is out in the market, for non animal based cue tips.
