Table Cleaning

How do you clean your table? I mean dirtwise, not running off the balls.

I have simonis 760. I vacuum it though simonis says you shouldn't. Then I wipe it with damp clothes.

Who has used chalkoff and what do you think of it?

I read a post on another forum where Ivan Lee, the president of Simonis in the USA, recommended to the poster a slightly damp cloth. I've also read that Simonis tested Quick-Clean and found that it does not harm the cloth. I've stopped brushing and vacuuming my table and now just use Quick-Clean. Expensive stuff, but you can buy a dozen cans for $90 with free shipping from the QC website (www.quick-clean.com).

Vacuuming and a damp cloth wipedown work well with no added expense.

Thanks for that input Dartman -- There are some key words therein that should be closely paid attention to.

"The cloth can be brushed, but to remove the chalk and talc powders, it can be vacuumed with a non-rotating brush-head attachment that does not allow for too much suction to be formed. Some small vacuums can pick up bowling balls, but this will only stretch the cloth on the table and possibly harm the grouting of the slates as well. You should test your vacuum and brush attachment off of the table first to make certain that it is not going to damage the play surface. Less is more in this department. After all, you are trying to remove a fine powder from a smooth cloth, so don't overdo it.

The cloth can also be wiped with a damp (not wet) clean towel. This should only be done after the table has been vacuumed otherwise the dampness may cause the chalk dust to clump together (think of it as adding water to dry clay). Once the dampness has evaporated, a quick brushing is all you will need before playing as moisture will cause the fibers in the cloth to stand up and a quick brushing will smooth things out.

Stains on the cloth? Contact your local Dry Cleaners as they have some pretty interesting and effective techniques to resolve these incidents. Remember, Simonis is a worsted wool, so be sure to mention that fact."

I have seen beer stains on BBs cleaned using a tonic water dampened bar cloth and it seemed to work quite well. Before you did that on Simonis vs cheap BB cloth, I would first have a few guys over for some pool and cold ones and use scrap pieces as coasters -- stain 'em up good and tonic those bad boys. Tell the wifey that it is a night of experimentation and not to be considered as a night of pool with the fellas.

I use Quick Clean and have found that the cloth will last longer also. Great prouduct!! It is also used at a lot of the pro tournaments and can be played on as soon as you clean the table with it. The Chalk Off has to have time to dry so i have herd

I've had 860 for about 9 years now. I used to vac almost daily but now only about once a month. About once a week I use Quck Clean and 2 or 3 times a week I rely on the damp micro fibre cloth.

I play several times every day so I never get around to using the table cover. If I used it I'd probably skip the vac or maybe use it a couple times a year.

Vac or Microfiber>chalkoff.

Daily Vacuum with shop vac. Follow up with LIGHTLY damp microfiber LIGHTLY rubbing circular motion. Follow up with directional (towards foot) swipes from head to foot.

Weekly, remove suck-head from shop vac and use round tube to lift felt from slate. Vac in squares until entire cloth clean. Finish with Microfiber cloth.

Spray cleaners only work so good. AFTER using them, you can get a BLACK bucket of water from rinsing a microfiber, whether using vac or not.

roomba robotic vacuum

i have a brunswick 4 by 8 with simonis. i use my roomba vacuum to clean my table. the brushes are very soft, and the suction is not real strong. the robot has a small brush on the side that cleans under the sides of the rails. i set it on the table push button and 5 - 10 min the table is clean. i have used it about 25 times and it doesn't to appear to have hurt the cloth. i replace cloth about ever 2 years. chuck
